Mrs Audrey heard him moan out in pain, "Hey, are you okay? " She instinctively queried which drew Rubin's attention to the door as he struggled back on his feet with quiet a wide stance.
"Oh, gosh–Mum, you scared me!" He roared. "Thought you already left. I'm fine now, no need to worry. I'll be down in a minute."
Audrey chortled "I've heard you– I've heard you, I'm going now. No need to get all aggressive and embarrassed." Rubin scoffed, rolling his eyes in the process as he heard his mother's faint chuckle fade away from the door, down the corridor.
"Huh, who's embarrassed " He wined as he briskly trod to the bathroom. " Argh!, Why is she always like this" He snarled. " Having fun picking on me, right?" He mumbled. Within the next second, the sound of the droplets of the shower could be heard as he faded in.
Within the next minute, he sauntered out, his eyes earnestly lurked around as he trod over to his wardrobe. "Still no sign of her at all– Guess she's not yet back" He thoughtfully mumbled, taking his stand in front of the mirror as he got himself ready. He looked quiet worried yet pissed off. He instinctively froze just when a thought clicked in.
"Or she really left or ascended without a goodbye?"He stuttered. A sense of hurt lingered in his eyes as he heard his heart thump faster than regular. His lips suddenly curved in a sheepish chuckle.
"No, no– This can't be it. She couldn't have left without resolving whatever she wanted me to help her with" He sniffed, "This is really confusing– Or she's with mum and Annabella, downstairs? She's a fun of that"
With a quick nod, he picked up his bag from the bed and sauntered out.
" Why didn't I think of that first" He cried as he briskly trod down to the dinning table.
Meanwhile, Annabella kept gazing up from her plate towards the stairs, expectantly but still no sign of his brother, joining in for breakfast. She sighed with a grumpy gaze as she leaned back on the chair.
"Isn't Rubin coming down for breakfast " She asked Audrey, drawing her attention to Rubin's absence on the table. She was so busy with her chores that she didn't notice.
"Huh?–He's still up there?" She grumbled. "Thought he said he'll be out in a minute."
Just then, Rubin sauntered in– His darting eyes swiftly lurked through the kitchen in search of whatever; they had no idea of. Annabel and Mrs Audrey just stared at him, wondering what he was literary looking for.
" She's not here either" He sneered with furrowed brow which made his sister and mother simultaneously glance at each other, confused.
"Who is he referring to?" Audrey lip signed at Annabel who just lifted her shoulders in a half shrug, signifying, "I don't know or got no idea ".
Audrey instinctively cleared her throat as she turned her attention to Rubin who just seemed off.
"Who are you talking about, dear" She queried which drew him to reality. His demeanour suddenly changed with shifty eye contact as realization dawn on him.
His lips instinctively curved in unwarranted smiles with hesitation in speech.
" No– No one in particular, mum." He stuttered. Audrey tilted her head with raised eyebrow and a sightly crinkled nose; not so convinced. Rubin on noticing the look on her face, swiftly picked a piece of sandwich from the plate and stormed off.
" I'll be on my way now, mum– Got some research to work on" He howled in the distance, avoiding Audrey's numerous queries.
She gasped, "But you didn't finish your breakfast! " She eluded but Rubin was long gone. She swiftly glanced back at Annabel with a quizzical gaze.
"Something really seem off about him since last night– Do you think he's okay?"
She wilted, "I don't think so, mum–He's acting all strange and wired. Something must be up with him"
Audrey groaned, staring back at the door. "Gosh, that hell of a son–What I'm I to do with him now " She cried. " He's such a headache"
Annabel stared at her, full of smiles. "You guys are always like this" She chuckled.
THE ROBERTS' MANSION
Laura had followed her family back home after Mya's discharge. It was already morning but everything seem so dark and cold to Laura as she sauntered through the corridors of the mansion. The once happy and busy buzzing family which rolls with the dazzling morning sun, seem more gloomy and restless.
The aroma of her mother's morning cupcake with her beautiful soothing voice, humming her favourite song as she joyfully went around her morning duty– all seem lost without any trace.
Kelvin's usual teases and laughter around the house while he picked on her or Mya was now a thing of the past. Her heart felt heavy and choked up with tears as she reminiscences their good old times. The tears she fought back, slowly drifted down those ocean blue eyes.
"It's been such a long time–" She stuttered. "I really miss you, all– I wish time could be reversed." Her lips quivered. " I would have done better but –" Her gaze instinctively masked with anguish as the thought of Mya's attack struck in. Many unanswered questions roared in her thoughts.
"Why were they after Mya?– Did she find out something I don't know? " She wondered. "I need to find out now. Maybe this may give me a glue to help Rubin gain access to the evidence ."
With furrowed brow, she trod away from the hall to Mya's door. Her intangible nature helped her travel through the door without difficulty or drawing any attention only to meet an empty bed.
She swiftly lurked her eyes around." Where could she had gone this early? " She mumbled. Just then, she heard water droplets hitting the hard tiles from the bathroom. "Why take a bath this early morning while you're not feeling well– It's not like you're going somewhere " She sneered as she slumped into the bed. Her gaze instinctively fell on Mya's phone. She examined it with narrow with eyes.
"A new phone?" She stuttered. "Mya got a new phone?–But where is the old one and why the sudden need for a new phone?" She tilted her head in thoughts. Her curiosity grew wider.
