Once that piece of news was over, Soren was dejected and felt a massive headache coming from hearing it and said:
"This is prove to be way more troublesome than it needs to be."
"Kyuu~..." Lavenza also saw that this will prove to be extremely troublesome as well.
"We need a plan for this. What are our options?" Soren asked Lavenza seriously.
"Kyuu~ kyuu~. Kyuu~, kyuu~ Reny~." Lavenza said enthusiastically while doing some weird poses.
"So what you are saying is to either destroy the CNC or hide ourselves until the storm calms down." Soren said what he was trying to understand from Lavenza.
"Kyuu~." Lavenza nodded.
"First option, for that we would need probably around a few boxes of C4 explosives, the location of the radio tower, a team who has the ability to hack into the defence systems of the building and probably to be realistic and not even consider the idea of destroying the CNC." Soren said sarcastically
"Kyuu~..." Lavenza was dejected.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to take it out on you. Look, I know that taking out the cause, would nullify the effect. That kind of approach is fine, problem with that though is the fact that this kind of problem has a cause that can't be stopped, so even the idea of destroying it is completely out of the question. Anyways, hiding ourselves is probably our best chance. We could also show ourselves as is, but the problem with that, is the fact that the media are as hungry for scandals and embarassing news as starving wolves who are hungry of meat. And the last thing I want, is more unnecessary attention from, well, everything. We already are sticking out like sore thumbs, with me being considered a descendant of a founder or of a prestigious family and a sea serpent with extremely high amount of magic power, so this, this is like a spotlight on a theater that is bound on shing us." Soren apologised before he started to explain the entire situation.
"Kyuu~." Lavenza didn't look dejected anymore, instead she looked serious and determined.
"Well, at least very few know for your level of firepower, since the ones who saw our battle test were Jay and Rohan and no one else has seen us fight normally. But the problem is my appearance. The old man said that my kind of appearance shows that I'm either an illegitimate kid of a prestigious noble or of the Arch-Priestess. Unfortunatly for us, they won't even consider the third and true option of all of that being bullcrap and that I'm probably not one of those two families. So our plan of action is to hide my identity at least." Soren continued explaining before he decided to go to Matt's room and knock on it.
*knock* *knock* *knock*
After a moment, the door opened and Matt appeared and said:
"You need something to hide, right? Well, you two aren't the most quiet duo to tell the truth, so eavesdropping on you two is nearly impossible to not do. Just give me a minute to look for something." After that, Matt closed the door and sounds were being heard from his room. While those sounds were being made, Soren facepalmed himself and thought:
'Next time it's time to discuss a plan, use the Silent Room Spell, you big idiot.'
After around a couple of minutes have passed, Matt came out of the room with a leather hat in his hands and said:
"Here, use this. This should, at least, cover your hair and slightly your eyes, so you won't be easily recognised by others."
After Matt said that, Soren took the helmet from his hands and put it on. The helmet actually was covering half of his head and it was somewhat covering his eyes as well, while giving enough space for Soren to see.
"At least, this should allow you to go outside without much problem." Matt said casually.
"Thanks Matt." Soren said happily. After that, Soren and Lavenza left Rohan's house and made their way towards the Adventurer's Guild. Soren had considered if he should kill more time hearing more news from CNC, but decided against that because he didn't want another hour of commercials, so he decided that after leaving, he would take his time to make his way there and wanted to pay more attention to the city.
The city itself in the morning didn't a lot mermen swimming around or any other people from other races. Compared to a few days ago, the streets looked like they belonged to some backwater village, instead of an economic center that was booming with business.
"Kebabs. Fresh kebabs from wolf meat. Only three copper coins a piece. Kebabs. Fresh kebabs." A guy was screaming behind a grill with kebabs being cooked on it with a sign on top of it that said "Heat's Grill".
"Fresh Molpis fruits from the kingdom of Lun'ann. Come and get them fresh. 5 copper coins a kilogram. 5 coppers for fresh Molpis fruits." A woman was shouting behind a market stall with a display of blue fruits that we shaped like lemons.
The streets that Soren traversed today had quite a few stalls like those with people shouting so they could sell their produce. Soren was suprised how similar this market looked like, compared to Earth's market when he went with his mother to buy food from outdoor markets. Soren wondered if the concept of supermarkets existed in this world, but since he had bought a glass bottle of water from some sort of convienve store a few days ago, he dissmissed that thought after a bit of time. As he was swimming around, he occasionally got a couple of looks from some of the nearby citizens, but he ignored them.
After a little while, the two of them made their way towards the guild and once they entered, they saw Jay half-asleep on the counter. The guild itself didn't have many adventurers waiting in the lounge, so after getting a quick look around the place, they went towards the counter where Jay was sleeping and Soren decided to poke Jay's head with his finger to wake him up. The result was Jay suddenly getting up and saying:
"I'm so sorry sir. I didn't mean-" Once he saw Soren and Lavenza in front of him, he instantly figured out what happened and then said:
"Honestly guys, you shouldn't be doing this kind of stuff. It nearly gave me a heart attack."
"Hehe. That's what you get for not sleeping enough." Soren said jokingly. A bit of laughter was heard from of the adventurers as well who were laughing with that small situation.
"Anyways, did Rohan come by here yet?" Soren asked a bit seriously.
"He did. The update should be coming out any minute, it just needs to be written down on the documents and then you can get started on the updated quest." Jay explained seriously.
"I want to ask. What would happen if I completed the first version of the quest but before turning it in, it would update itself for whatever reason?" Soren asked seriously.
"Hmmm... If that happened, you would probably have to complete the new version of the quest. So all the work from the first version of the quest could go to waste." Jay explained.
"Sigh. I just hope it isn't a complete reworking of the entire quest, because I barely managed to make ends meet with the quest." Soren said to himself dejectedly.
After waiting for around ten minutes, Rohan came out from one of the doors with a piece of paper and saw Soren and Lavenza waiting by the counter.
"So you two came early guys." Rohan said that after swimmming towards them.
"Hey Rohan. Did you just update the quest?" Soren asked casually.
"Sure did. I thought that this quest needed an update after considering the situation from before. Also, I noticed that this quest should have been pretty easy to complete if you desired to hunt at night, so I decided to change things up and turn this into a quality over quantity, type of quest. Just so you don't have to rely on night hunting. Night hunting is a decent way to hunt, but there are some stuff that aren't available during the night. Same with daytime, so to make this test an actual challenge, I tweaked it a bit. Check the description now." Rohan explained with a grin on his face before he gave Soren the piece if paper he was holding.
Soren was a bit nervous about the update, but the only thing he could do was to accept whatever this update was and decided to read that piece of paper:
[Mission: Updated version of the Hunter's Test. Hunt down 7 different species. A part of of its body or its entire carcass is required so it can be added into the total.
Failure: Abdocation of your guild card.
Time: 7 days
Mission progress: 2/7
Reward: 1 iron coin + bonus rewards dependent on the amount of tume required to complete the quest
Difficulty Rank: E-D]
'Somehow, this quest has become even worse than before. But then again, that first version of the quest was pretty much a joke, considering that I could easily finish that in a night.' Soren thought to himself while holding his head with his left hand.
