Chereads / Gun Slinger / Chapter 21 - Basement

Chapter 21 - Basement

Shawn made his way down to the basement where he found a stack of crates just like the old man had told him. The wall glowed as he slapped his hand against the rune that was hidden behind the stack of crates. Slowly the stone wall began to disappear revealing a stairway that descended into darkness.

At the bottom of the stairwell was a room full of men with swords who were more than surprised when a dark elf suddenly appeared in front of them.

"Who the hell are you" asked one of the men as he stepped closer with one hand on his blade.

Unfortunately for the soldier Shawn drew his weapon, many times faster than the soldier could.

[Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang]

Before any of them could react a deafening sound could be heard followed by the sound of bodies falling to the floor. They had no idea what had happened. One moment they were just standing there gaurding the entrance to the base and then next thing they knew they were in the afterlife.

"That was very good, excellent even" thought Shawn as he looked at thier bodies.

The new metal lined razor bullets had penetrated the soldier's armor with surprising ease. Not just the bullets but Jack had gotten a serious power boost as well, the amount of force that it should take to penetrate armor that thick was actually a sizable amount.

It was nothing to scoff at, the pistol easily had generated that much power. It was definitely a good sight to see, the upgrades he had performed were definitely worth it. Shawn was hoping that someone down here would have some stronger armor so he could test the limits of Jack's firepower.

'As good as these guns are there is a pretty obvious problem. They were too god damn loud, one bullet and the element of surprise is completely lost. Well maybe I should look for materials that can dampen sounds in the future' Shawn thought as he stepped over the fallen bodies.

Hearing the commotion many more soldiers began streaming towards Shawn but they were easily gunned down by Shawn who seemed to be on a rampage. Gaurds were shot before they could even understand that they had died. The poor gaurds were completely overwhelmed, they were even getting shot through the walls before they could see their assailant.

The gaurds began rushing him like a sea of bodies but they were not even close to as fast as his bullets. The lead rain easily tore through their flesh and armor turning their bodies into swish cheese. All those who the bullets didn't kill on impact die due to blood loss only a few seconds later.

Shawn was a nightmare for these people who thought they were untouchable. He was a one man army tearing through their ranks like a knife through hot butter. He was a beast atleast against all those who he had deemed as hostile, those who surrendered and pleaded for their lives were spared.

The quest was pretty specific, it wanted him to kill those who were hostile and if you were a coward to the point that after seeing you friends get slaughtered you would forgo vengeance just to save your own life then you deserved to live on knowing that you were a spineless coward.

A weak, wretched and cowardly person who didn't deserve the gift of life. But were granted it because a fearsome being decided you were not worth the effort to kill. That was far more torturous than the release of death, they would life on haunted by those cruel facts until someone allowed them to die.

Plus as strange as it was the terror and disgrace that they felt after seeing their friends die and do nothing about it seemed to give me a little strength as weird as it sounded. Well not exactly strength but that was the easiest was to explain it. It was almost like I was feeding off of their dispare. Definitely something that didn't happen when I was human.

Shawn while standing over a soldier who was begging to be spared felt a cluster of mana moving towards him but by this point it was already too late, he could feel the heat against his skin. A few seconds later an explosion rocked the underground facility.

"Hahaha, cock little bastard. Those idiots begging for their lives must have made you feel powerful but they are nothing compared to a mage of my caliber" laughed the man as he heard horrible screams coming from where his fireball had landed.

"You call that an explosion"

The mage was baffled at the sight, as the smoke cleared he could see that the man hadn't even moved from his spot. It was the soldier who got incinerated instead of the man he was aiming for but that didn't make sense, the man was at point blank range.

"Impossible, I hit you point black" shouted the mage as he began stepping backwards. A portal appeared beneath his feet in an attempt to take him away but the casting time was too long.

Shawn closed the gap by flash stepping within reaching distance before grabbing the mage's throat and flying with him backwards until he slammed into the wall behind them.

"You call that an explosion. No let me show you true art"

As Shawn said that he took a grenade from out of his cloak and dropped it on the floor.

"Wh.. Whhh. What is that" asked the mage as he struggled to get Shawn's powerful grip off his throat but it was pointless.

A few seconds later the explosion went off, the mage didn't even get to scream as the explosion engulfed them both.

"Now that is beautiful" Shawn thought as he nodded to the fact that not even the skeleton of that mage was left behind after the grenade exploded.

At that moment Shawn looked like a true demon scaring the hell out of the soldiers that as they saw him. His black robe was covered in blood and smoke rose from his head as his purple eyes peered from beneath his cloak as he marched forward slaying all those who stood before him.

After a few more bodies were added to the pile. A pool of mana could be felt gathering in front of Shawn. He wasn't exactly sure what it was but it would be dangerous to allow it to hit. If it was anything besides ice or fire that much mana being used in and attack would be devastating, even to his body.

A few seconds later a very powerful torrent of wind came from the darkness. Cutting into the walls and making a whistling sound as it traveled down the hallway. It was some sort of high teir wind spell meant to deal a a lot of damage in a small area Shawn analyzed as he prepared himself.

[Mana Barrier]

A light blue barrier appeared before Shawn only a few seconds before the attack managed to reach him. Instead of being the usual dome shape barrier, Shawn focused all of the protection to the front of him, sensing that the attack would be troublesome to block.

The barrier was actually holding up to the surprise of the mage who shot the attack. The mage had funneled most of his mana into that attack and yet it was being blocked by a measly barrier about the size of a door.

The torrent was indeed powerful, while it was being blocked it managed to push Shawn back digging his feet into the ground as he slid backwards. Even then the torrent didn't let up, the force just kept coming.

Beads of sweat began running down Shawn's face as the wind continued pushing, by this point the barrier was still holding up. The problem wasn't that the barrier wasn't strong enough, in fact an attack three times this strength wouldn't be able to pass through the barrier. And coupled with Shawn's insane mana the barrier should last.

The problem was the amount of strength that was required to hold that barrier in place. It felt like he was trying to move a building, almost like he was pushing against an immovable object.

A smile spread across his face as he began to shout, he wasn't really shouting words he was just shouting as he planted his foot into the ground and began trying to stand up. Defying logic seeing as that much force would crush a normal man with ease, even an elf should have been crushed beneath the pressure and yet Shawn refused to fall.

"Ahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa".

Bloodlust began filling the hallways, combined with his mana Onslaught as it spread outwards from his body.

"I will not faaaaalllllllllll" he shouted as he began marching forward, slowly one millimeter at a time. His foot continued to did into the floor as beads of sweat were running into his eyes as he strained against the unbelievably powerful attack.

After a few more seconds, the attack finally ended with Shawn standing in a pool of sweat, with the taste of blood in his mouth. During the attack he had accidentally bitten his tongue while trying to withstand it. The attack was no joke, just trying to hold the barrier up had cut his stamina in almost half. A few more minutes of that and he would have had to done something drastic.

'I can't waste time right here my enemy is right up ahead charging another attack, probably as powerful as that one' he thought as he flash stepped forward.

To his complete disappointment as he approached he saw 6 mages on the ground in a much worse condition than he was. They were all on the floor drowning in sweat, some hand thrown up while others were crying tears of blood as their bodies shook like leaves.

"It wasn't one opponent after all it was actually six. Not just that but they couldn't even with stand the backlash of their own attack. They used up all their mana in an attempt to hold me back, fools. Atleast, I can give them points for giving it every ounce of their strength. Too bad it was futile they all die" Shawn thought as he crushed their throats violently.

"You know those are perfectly good minions that you are killing" as voice suddenly said as Shawn crushed the throat of the last mage who was on the floor.

The man that appeared next looked to be the leader or atleast someone who was high up on the food chain. The man had a katana like sword strapped to his waist and he wasn't wearing a shirt, showing off the many tatoos that covered his body. The man was also exuding a certain pressure that only those that had seen true battle would be able to give off. He was strong, without a doubt.

"Tell me elf, what is your name" asked the shirtless man as he rested his arm on the hilt of his blade.

"That is strange, how did he know I was an elf. My hood is up and none of the others had commented about my appearance before. It must be some power he has" Shawn thought as he decide whether or not he would answer.

"My name is Shawn" Shawn said without asking for the shirtless man's name. Shawn

instead he just pointed Jack at him and fired.

[Bang][Bang][Bang]

In a fluid, almost beautiful motion the shirtless swordsman had managed to cut all three of the bullets out of the air. It was a quite impressive feat, those bullets should be moving faster than the eye can see and yet he managed to not just dodge but actually cut them down.

The swordsman then rushed forward slicing at Shawn who dodged the first slash with ease but the swordsman had somehow changed directions mid flight and the sword was now coming from the left, this time at a diagonal angle aiming for Shawn's chest.

Cro-Van appeared just in the nick of time to block the attack but the swordsman who almost seemed to expect it then kicked forward, connected with Shawn's chest and throwing him backwards a few feet.

Without giving him so much as a chance to breath, the swordsman followed the kick up with a straight forward thrust meant to pierce Shawn's heart. But a blue barrier appeared giving Shawn just enough time to move himself out of the way.

Only a second after Shawn had dodged the sword managed to pierce the barrier and stab into the wall that was behind it. The Mana Barrier crumbled after being penetrated, the sword almost seemed to absorb the mana.

Shawn threw Cro-Van at the swordsman who had his weapon lodged into the wall but he had managed to teleport a few inches to the left just enough to dodge the throw before grabbing his sword from the wall.

A smile appeared on Shawn's face as Jack disappeared into his jacket and he pulled out the Shifting Wraith while doing a barrel roll backwards to get out of the range of the swordsman.

The new gun that almost seemed to not know it was a gun, it kept changing shape as the little pieces of it moved around constantly not staying still long enough for it to have a distinct look.

The gun was made up of what looked like thousands of black chips that shifted around almost like they were alive. The gun grew slightly larger as the chamber got longer and the barrel got wider. Shawn pulled a red ammo clip from his cloak and loaded it into the gun with an even wider smile on his face.
