We had spent a week making sure everything was set up correctly according to Kevin's plan. We bought supplies extra ammunition for Kevin's crossbows and made ammunition for Oz's weapons. We went over the plan every few times making sure to cover every possible angle they might use, and knowing my brother, he'd go all kinds of ways to get to me and his target. One final thing we needed were disguises, mistress Nulara said that although it would benefit us to have our armor, it would suit us better to walk among the guests and such without having them worry as to why a bunch of strangers is roaming around the party fully armored, Kevin offered an alternative, "How about this, we all go to a tailor, and we instruct them to find or fit us clothing to go over our armor, besides, we're probably going to wear this stuff once anyway. Plus I'd like to see what Breena would look like in some nicer clothing." Breena rolled her eyes but smiled slightly, "Very well, there is a tailor not too far from here, Mr. Crowfeather, you and Mr.Littlefoot, and Miss Veloptima shall accompany me to this tailor, the rest will come along in a separate group, I do not believe my carriage, nor my horses could handle the weight of all of you together." She turned and began making her way out to the carriage.
While in the carriage Mistress Nulara asked me to sit next to her since the plan had me be her bodyguard for a time she wished for me to be at her side as soon as possible, however, some of the guards did not trust me for some reason, "Mistress, this...ulfguadrian is not fit to protect you properly the idea was for him to pretend to guard you, given the chance this savage coward would run from a fight than risk his life for you." I was about to give this guard a piece of my mind when the mistress did it for me, "The plan we agreed to belongs to Mr.Littlefoot, and it was his idea to have Mr.Crowfeather accompany me as my bodyguard, I will also only ask you once that you refrain from using his nationality as an insult, I have read much on his people and his nation, you forget that the empire has a severe hatred for them, and for good reason, they were the only ones to defeat them in battle when no one else would.
The great war between the empire of Vescolar and the free nation of Ulvenguard lasted a mere five years and was recorded by several thousand scholars and writers, all of which repeat the same outcomes, no matter where the vast armies of the empire went they were met with intense resistance from the warriors of Ulvenguard, none survived. You insulting Mr.Crowfeather would likely get you closer to a shorter life than insulting me or anyone else, so if you would kindly keep your mouth shut I will not have to ask Mr.Crowfeather to demonstrate the fighting prowess of his people, am I understood?"
The guard gulped and nodded, "Y-yes mistress, forgive me, mistress." he said closing the door to the carriage and waving us out, Kevin and Breena spoke to each other filling in the occasional silence now and again, then I turned towards Nulara, "You know, you didn't have to defend me mistress. I'm perfectly capable of speaking for myself when the time calls for it, "an ulfguardian tongue is sharper than most" as a few say." Without looking at me she responded, "I know, it simply does not sit right with me that many people still resort to such pitiful insults. You can imagine how hard it is for me being a half-orc living among human, elven, and even half-elven aristocrats, you can imagine what many have said under their breath. But I pay them no mind, I am here now, and here I will stay."
"How did you become so wealthy, if you don't mind me asking mistress." "Well, it was through an arranged marriage, however, there is more you must know. My father was a highly respected and highly praised academic scholar, he was an orc who decided to leave his clan to pursue higher knowledge, he became rather wealthy when he eventually met my mother, an elf woman who was the owner of the library he frequented, they married and had me, three years after I was born, I was said to marry a man who was the son of a wealthy actor and a good friend of my father. Many years after the marriage we had lived peacefully, having received wealth from the schools my father started and the several libraries spread throughout that my mother had found, I came to find out that my husband had died, now I am here under your watchful eye and protection Mr.Crowfeather."
She turned and smiled at me, I never noticed then but her eyes were a shining turquoise, a color I had never seen on a person before, beautiful and gleaming like diamonds. A few moments pass and we finally made it to the tailor with the others who were to join us close behind, "Come, we must work quickly, the gathering is in two days' time and I wish for our preparations to be finished before then." We all nodded and followed the mistress inside. One by one we were measured, given cloth samples, etc. We even came out with our new and rather well-made outfits to show off to one another, when it came to my turn to show off, everyone but the mistress seemed to like it, she stood from where she was sitting and made her way over to me, "This needs to be fastened here...and this needs to be a little tighter, not too tight, but enough to be comfortable. There. Perfect." I looked over at myself in the mirror, it was pretty much perfect, you couldn't even tell I was wearing armor under this whole thing. "Thank you, mistress." I took it off and handed it to the tailor, "I shall speak with the mistress in private of the fee, please remain here." I sat down next to Kevin and Breena, "Paavu, Bayar, and I are gonna be outside. Wait for y'all to come out." "fine with me Ozzy boy," Kevin said. As they left Kevin turned to me.
He smiled at me, a cocky look on his face, "What?" I asked him, "She fancies you you know." "Who?" "The mistress stupid. Listen, I know I may not look it, but a fellow like me, I've seen the faces of women who simply cannot resist me, and my friend, that lady has it in for you, she wants to know what human warmth in her bed is like." I chuckled slightly, "Right sure." "We'll see now won't we friend?" I rolled my eyes and shook my head, sure she was beautiful but there was no way she'd like me that much….could she?
When she finally came back we followed her to the carriage and made our way towards her estate to assist in the final preparations for this gathering.
