I was so glad that my ordeal was almost over. No one seemed to raise their bid anymore. That was fine with me. I was not here for the money, although a big donation would be good for the beneficiaries, still, I would rather settle for less if it meant I would end up with a date with my man.
I was almost out of breath as I waited for the sound of the gavel, hoping it would finally hit the wooden block. No bidders were raising their cards. I wished that no one would. "Going…" But the sentence did not finish as the host found someone in the crowd raising his card.
"Six hundred thousand." The announcer said, pointing to the gentleman seating on the right side. I noticed that he was the same man Nathan was talking about. The man he planned to give the painting to. He looked at Nathan and made a teasing smile.
Of course, Nathan made an offer too. "Eight hundred thousand."
