Later that night. The medjai found Babu. He's hiding and cried, remembering Imhotep word to him. Sound like threatening but no. It wasn't.
Hiding because afraid Imhotep will hurting him. Since they met, Babu considering Imhotep as his own family. So did Imhotep. And now, Imhotep push him away for reason. He had run from Imhotep.
So he did.
The medjai brought him back to the base. Where he meet the chief member of the medjai himself. Ardeth in person.
He feel the boy presence behind him. Slowly he turn his back and saw Babu on his view. The small boy whom living with the destroyed. One and only, Imhotep.
Hand on his back. He approached the boy. On Babu view, a tall man wearing similar black garment like Imhotep did. Are they brothers?
No. It wasn't.
He laid his hand on Babu shoulder. The boy jolt a bit. Maybe he still afraid about earlier.
"Don't be afraid". said Him in Egypt. "Why you run away?" ask Ardeth.
The boy sealed his lips shut. Ardeth nod. "Leave us alone".
He ask the medjai leave them. Maybe the boy afraid of them. Or he's afraid around him.
"This is the base of Medjai like me and others who found you. We're a good people. We protect this city, so we did for you".
Babu sealed his lips again. He probably hungry. "You're hungry?" He ask again. "Come. Follow me".
He followed. Ardeth point at the table where bunch of food display on top of it.
"Eat. I know. There no poison on it. Eat. Your feel better after that".
The boy still not moving. He sigh. "I leave you alone. Had your way then".
Again. He touch the boy shoulder before out from the tent. The medjai whom found Babu approach Ardeth and asked him.
"The boy?"
"He'd need rest. He must be shocked. Let him lived in peace for a while. Whenever his ready. He must know the truth".
"About, Imhotep?"
Ardeth nod his head. "Everything about Him".
Days later. Its was about in the morning. Evelyn walk in the corridor, taking stairs, walking up toward the deck. Jonathan still on bed. Couples of people are awake waiting for the sunrise show.
Inhaling, then letting out fresh breeze cold air gently. She wrapped herself. The weather are so cold.
Hearing the sound of waves of the ocean, splashing water could hear from the bottom of the ship. Birds chirping. She close her eyes captured the sound.
The view still dark. Was nothing to seeing yet. She lean on the deck rail. She hadn't enough good sleep.
Her mind still thinking of what happen as she left Cairo. What was that upon the sky she saw? Was it Imhotep or some natural disaster that shouldn't she not worried about because its from the God's itself.
And then her mind on Ardeth. Her eyes wide around. Oh my God's. Why sudden I'm thinking about him.
She sigh out loud. Ardeth. The name she called. "Oh my God stop that woman! Bloody menace why".
He will do anything to protect his place from harm, especially Imhotep. Yes. She did mess up. Revive Imhotep wasn't the best choice.
She cupped her face. How embarrassing. Wonder if Ardeth missing her too. Believing or not _ yes. She miss him.
She take a glance over her shoulder, the sit where a young mother carried her baby in her arm. She smile. Hoping that one day she got same tittle like every women desire for.
Tittle of Mother. Best mother.
She miss her parent. Everything is suddenly to be miss. She shake her head stops dreaming. Didn't notice Jonathan stood beside her.
"Good morning, Sis. What you'd looking at?" He ask her. Stretching his body, and make a sound from it. "Don't you sleep?"
She nod her head. "We will arrive soon enough".
"Awe, did you miss both men at the same time".
"I don't. Stop that!" She slapped him. "You just wake and talk nonsense suddenly".
Jonathan yawning. Evelyn saw his mouth wide open. "Oh my God's, Jonathan? Disgusting".
The two siblings stood in silent. An later, they just witness most beautiful sunrise rise up in the sky, lightning up the city of London. The ship cross under the London Bridge before arriving at the port.
Beautiful. Such a beautiful. She smile again. Turning to Jonathan. "We're home".
"We are home. At last". He take her hand running back to the cabin. Luckily, she prepared everything. "Finally!" He said. "What I can said this ship make me sick".
As they walk at the corridor. "Oh, Jonathan. Don't be such a complaining. Come on. We don't have so much time to take a shower. Grab everything then we're out".
"You must know how far the distance between Cairo and London". She look at his face. "Far more than you can't expected".
She rolled her eyes. "Did someone know about our arriving?"
"I get the contact. Don't worry about that, Sis".
They walk out from the cabin. As the ship arrive at the port. Jonathan quickly drag her out from the ship. People start to pushing each other, which she had to push them back away from her.
"Oh my God's Jonathan. Could you please get me out from here!"
"Well, I'm trying. Get back! Back! All of you".
They two struggling. Until they reach the bottom ground. Finally isn't it?
And then they must wait the crew stroll their luggage out from the cargo. Before they can claim.
"What taking so long?"
Later that. Both Evelyn and Jonathan claim their luggage. And walk toward the nearest restaurant for breakfast.
"Are you sure your contact know where we are, Jonathan?"
"Pretty sure. But, we ate first".
Later that. Evelyn sitting on the bench outside the restaurant. Her luggage side of her legs. While Jonathan is nowhere to be seen.
Inhaling and exhaling. She repeat it at least like a twenty times or more than that. She then saw Jonathan with someone behind him.
She barely seen it at first until they getting closer to her. Her smile widen. Knowing the person whom behind it.
"Mr. Charles". She exciting. The older man greet her in smile. "What on earth you doing in here?"
He said. "Jonathan. He found me near the pub. He'd know where I hide myself".
"So, Jonathan lies about being contacting someone before our arriving. It was you. Whom he just found. Like now".
"He can't lied. But he did". The old man chuckle. "Come on then. My wife will surprising to see you two back. How long you were there".
Before she could said. The old man cut her word. "Nah, no one care. You're back that's all".
"That would do".
They three walk toward the old man car. Not much still _ a car he brought. The old man help the Carnahan's with the luggage.
"Come on. Move on. Get inside the car". He open the door and start the engine. "Haa, let's go home now".
Mr. Charles is Carnahan's old neighbor. Evelyn and Jonathan grow up with him and his wife. The pair marriage for so long with no child.
The couple lived happily even no child presence around. Mr and Mrs. Charles part of Carnahan's family.
They are the family Evelyn and Jonathan had.
"I've got to said. I've miss you". said Evelyn. "Been so long".
"Yes, we sorry to hear about your parent. Your father, Howard is good man. Finest husband and father. Of course your mother too. I almost fall in love with her when first time Howard brought her lived in London. She's Egyptian am I right?"
"Yes, she is". Silent, she spoke back. "Something kill them I believe".
The old man look at the rear view mirror. He saw her at the back. "What might you said that child?"
"Her features had passed onto me, and was known to have been, along with my father, the finest patrons of the Cairo Museum until their untimely deaths in a plane crash, its said to be caused by the curse of a mummy that my father had helped find. That's why they died".
The old man snorts. Turning the wheel on the right. "It so? Mummy aye? You believe such that thing".
"Oh. We've been there". She chuckle. Jonathan look her at the back with frowning face. She stop chuckling, clearing her throat. "You believe such that thing, Mr. Charles?"
"Never heard of it".
Before noon. They arrive at the old man house. Evelyn jump out from the car as she saw Mrs Charles knee on the ground, planting the flowers.
The old woman look up. She push up her glasses back to the centre. "Evelyn?" She rose up from the ground. Greeting her.
"Is nice too see you again, Mama Madeline". Both women hugs. "I've miss you".
The old woman hand circling at the back of hers. "It's been so long dear. How your doing? Why sudden you've come back?"
"Wasn't sudden". She lied. "Just I miss my birth place".
"Of course. Welcome home child". She look over Evelyn shoulder, her eyes stare at Jonathan. "Jonathan?"
He smile. Approach the old woman. "Mama Madeline. Glad to be home".
"It is?" She smile. "I know you both are tired. Come. Let me show you your house".
Mr and Mrs Charles walk to the front. Evelyn and Jonathan walk at the back. The old woman spoke.
"While you away I've been watch and take a good care of your house. Guess you will be back and now_ you here".
The old woman pull the keys out from the pocket. Sound of keys jingling hear as she unlock the door. Then swung the door wide open.
"Everything is set. Cleaning, dusting. Everything are fine and normal since you left". She smile. "We never touch anything nor trying to moved the things".
Evelyn enter the house. Her eyes looked around the house. Yes. Everything it at place. Nothing change. She stood front of the fireplace where the portrait hanged on the wall.
A portrait with such happiness they had together as family before dead took the parent away.
The old woman stood beside hers. "Such a beautiful family. We're sorry again".
"This is God's doing. We can't stop it. We can't stop the time neither dead".
The old woman stare at her. "Look at you. All grown up. Beautiful just like your mother. Get you things then we having lunch at mine place".
Her eyes on her husband. "Include you old man". She out from the house.
"See. See what happen when I try disobey my wife order. She will kill me with the knife". said the old man. "Dearly I love her".
He follow his wife trails. Evelyn and Jonathan had nothing to said. "Hurry sis. We cannot waste our time. I'm sure I miss her cooking".
"I can't cooked, that for sure".
"Yes. We just having our hard time".
Noon arrive. Four of them sit at the dining room. Jonathan. Since he laid his arses on chair, he never stop eating. Truly, he miss the old woman cook.
Evelyn drop the spoon side the plate. "Tell me about your journey in Egypt". Evelyn and Jonathan look up at each other. "Anything you want to share".
"Egypt is awesome. Well said. American word. Owh, we brought you two a present from there. It's at the house".
"Child? I need to know how you do. I hear men and women there are beautiful. Even my husband trying to flirting with your mother. Of course, your father Howard had married with Egyptian woman".
The old man eyeing his wife, she spoke back. "What? You'll think I don't know, Hedlund. Yes. I saw you".
"Beat that woman! Let it pass. Its not good talking dead people around the table".
Her eyes on the sibling. She apologise. "I don't mean that. Your parent are finest patron. Sometime my envy show up but _ there they are. Having you two it such a wonderful gifts".
"Thank you for not hating us". They laugh.
"When I saw their portrait. I cried. How sweet having your parent as our neighbor. Losing them like we losing our national treasure".
Jonathan nod. His mouth full of food. "This is breaking. Its all in news".
Four them went silent as they hear the fight. The fight so tense. "That Sabrina and her big sister, Jenny. After the mother die, Jenny trying to sold the house and let her sister leave with her. Unfair isn't it?"
"I can tell by their fight".
The neighborhood. "Now, I'm trying to tell you _ that we can't afford to keep you here any more. You already owe two months worth of back rent".
"It's mine! And you're not taking it away".
"Read the WILL, Sabrina. It states in plain language: The executor shall have the right to dispose of _ any and all personal property as he shall see fit".
"He's not even real family".
"Yeah, well, maybe not. But clearly, mother thought Lou would be much better equipped to deal with these unpleasant details than you".
She scoffs in anger. "Unpleasant details?" What have I been dealing with for the past years? I've cooked, cleaned, mopped up her urine! You call that an unpleasant detail?"
And then her brother-in law steps foward. "Hey, your sister didn't write the will".
"We all know what you've done. We're trying to help".
"Do not help me! You killing me!" Sabrina shouts. "Get outta my home".
"Sabrina".
"Get out of my home!"
Her sister and her husband hurried their feet walk toward the door, the husband walk without ever turning to look over his shoulder but his wife did.
"You have no idea how hard it is out there".
"No". Sabrina breath. "No, Jenny. You have no idea how hard it was in here".
It then went silent again. Evelyn drink lots of water then swallow it hard deep inside her throat. Kind a hurt but she like it.
"So, it's over then". ask Evelyn.
"I saw her sister once and I never like her. She so _ what? Kind a have no mercy. Sabrina take good care of her mother until her last breathe. Then her sister Jenny trying to take everything what she had".
"Sound so greedy".
"She is".
Carnahan's house. Night later. Evelyn went to her parent bedroom. She laid on their bed. Jonathan saw the door open, he walk at the corridor and saw her laid on their parent bed.
He then follow, laid beside her. "Are you okay old mum?" He ask.
"This room such a memory, Jonathan. Remember what she said?"
"I remember when mum told me something is about to burst out from her belly. Wasn't exciting because I only thought just me in this house. And then you came. I held you in my arm".
He breath, continue. "So small that I could squishy you with my bare hand".
"Trying to kill me aren't you, Jonathan".
"Nah. I do hate you once when I was small until I realise that you need me. You need me to protect you because I'm your brother. The only sibling you had it's me".
He looked at her in smile. "How I wonder Cairo's its like after we leave the place".
"Last thing, Sis. Ardeth or Imhotep?"
"NO!"
"Thought so". He sighed out loud. "Will they find him? Our life is great dangerous if we staying. Is it?"
Evelyn shrugged, said. "I don't know. I couldn't tell them what I've done". She notice him wearing a tux without tie. "Where'd you going?"
"I'm going out tonight. Let said. I need to see my friends".
"Since when you had a friends".
"That, old mum. You didn't know me better". He jumped up from bed. "You will just fine".
"Stayed out from trouble, Jonathan. Everything you done something are follow you back. And stay away from drunk".
He walk at the corridor. Still. She could hear him. "I'm want some fun for myself. It's been years since that _ whatever. London here I come!"
He's out from the house. She grab the pillow then take a nice sleep in peaceon their parent bed.
