Chapter 78 - "Twin blades!"

"Here Isobel, I think that dagger might be wearing you out." Evren said as he handed her his dagger.

"Thanks Evren. I was thinking about asking, but I just couldn't get around to it." She replied.

Evren looked at Isobel and said, "'Hey Evren, could I use that dagger that you haven't used at all since we got in the dungeon?' 'Sure Isobel, here you go!'"

Isobel stuck her tongue out at Evren and both of them laughed.

Walter said, "Will you two quit flirting?"

Evren said, "You jealous big guy?"

Walter hid a smile and said, "Maybe."

Fletcher spoke up and said, "What's our plan in there?"

Without even turning to him, Evren said, "Wing it!"

"Mr. Evren, what's 'wing it' mean?" Harley asked.

"Ah, you see that means we'll have to come up with a plan once we see what is on the other side of the door. If they're flying, we knock them down. If they're down, we keep them down." Evren said as if everyone should have already known.

Evren looked into everyone's eyes as if to ask if they were ready. Everyone returned the look with a nod. He turned around and pushed open the door. Inside were two large wyverns. One red, the other blue. They turned to the opening of the door and hissed. "Fletcher, keep them on the ground!" Evren called as he began spreading out with the rest of the group. Fletcher enchanted an arrow with 'discharge' fired it at the red wyvern, sticking into it's back. The blue wyvern charged forward towards Walter, but stopped short, and bent backwards.

"Shit!" Evren said in a panic, "Harley! 'Wall' in front of Walter! 'Cutter!'"

The blue wyvern started blowing fire out at Walter just as a wall appeared in front of him, a long stream of water hit the wyvern in the face like a fire hose. The fire extinguished and the wyvern reared its head to get away from the water. Evren noticed the red about to do the same thing and immediately turned his spell towards the red wyvern's face. The wyvern was stopped before it could start.

"Keep your eyes open everyone!" Evren called out as he dismissed the 'cutter' spell.

The red wyvern started to take flight and the 'discharge' spell went off from the arrow on its back, knocking the wyvern back to the ground and making everyone's ears ring. The blue one was stunned enough that it cowered away from the red wyvern, giving Isobel the opportunity to tear one of its wings with the adamantium dagger.

Evren dashed at the red one, intending to slash its wing to keep it on the ground. As he got close, the wyvern lifted its wings and snapped a bite at Evren. Evren slid on the ground to get past the mouth. To keep him from sliding too far, and as a stepping stone to get back to his feet, Evren cast 'wall' between him and the wyvern. The wyvern reared back, seeing Evren slide under it and lashed forward with its tail, hitting the 'wall' and shattering it, just as Evren was about to push off of it.

The tail didn't have enough momentum to continue forward to Evren, but the wyvern used the opportunity to flap its wings and launch itself backward and into the air. While it was in the air, Evren could tell that it was trying to use its fire breath again, so he cast 'sprite' summoning a water elemental between him and the wyvern. The water elemental looked like a wave continually crashing, with arms forming out the side.

The flames that hit the water elemental were hot enough to cause it to evaporate. Evren used the steam as a screen to move out of the way. Evren yelled out to the others, "Red one in the air." Evren looked to Walter and Isobel and found they had their hands full with the blue one, with Harley providing magic support when needed. Evren looked to his backpack that he had left by the door and ran to it, saying "Keep it busy." As he ran past Fletcher.

Fletcher fired an arrow with 'discharge' on it, but missed, flying over the wyvern's head. Fletcher still released the spell and stunned the wyvern, causing the wyvern to fall to the ground for a few meters before it righted itself. Fletcher kept firing arrows at the wyvern who then flew higher in the cavernous room.

Walter was using the 'shield' spell on his left arm and was holding his longsword with his right hand. The wyvern was trying to bite him and swipe at him with its forelegs. Isobel was busy with the tail that seemed to have a mind of its own. She got some distance from the tail and threw a dagger at the back of the wyvern. She then ran back towards the tail and made a grab for it as the 'charge' spell went off from her dagger. She grabbed the stinger with one hand and stabbed into the tail at the base of the stinger with the dagger in her other hand. She pulled with both of them with all her strength, tearing the stinger away from the tail of the wyvern, causing it to scream fiercely and turn towards her.

Walter used the distraction as an opportunity to swing at the left foreleg of the monster, tearing its wing, bone and muscle, and causing it to fall. Walter jumped back as the head turned to snap at him. He cast 'shield' again and bashed the head with it. A large number of rocks fell from the sky landing on the wyvern in various places, one landing close to Walter. "Sorry Mr. Walter!" he heard call from behind him.

The blue wyvern hissed at Walter, nearly in his face. Walter stabbed his sword into the mouth of the wyvern and filling the blade with magic and chanting "Cut!"

"WALTER GET DOWN!" Evren shouted from the door. Walter dove backwards, leaving his sword in the mouth of the blue wyvern. The red wyvern passed overhead of Walter, its tail sweeping through the place he just was.

Evren's blow glowed green and was straining to rip his fingers off when he yelled for Walter. He refocused his aim and released the arrow with a burst of magic into the bow. The arrow entered the head of the wyvern disappearing into the body and out the back to embed itself into the wall on the far side of the room. The red wyvern fell to the ground, still alive, but bleeding heavily from its mouth.

Walter sprang to his feet after the wyvern had passed and rushed to the blue wyvern that was stunned from his last attack. Walter grabbed the sword and stabbed it deeper into the mouth of the wyvern, causing it to suddenly collapse to the ground, pulling Walter's arm with it and trapping him on the ground.

Harley cast 'electrocute' on the wyvern causing it to convulse for five seconds. Isobel ran to it and up the back of the wyvern as the 'electrocute' spell wore off. She ran up the back of the neck and grabbed one of the wyvern's horns, and with her other hand, she stabbed the dagger deep into the skull of the wyvern, causing it to collapse as well, Isobel thrown off, but managing to roll to safety.

Evren grabbed his backpack, throwing his bow, quiver and spear inside of it. He approached the group as the wyverns were dissolving. Harley had gone over to Walter to heal his arm that had been bitten with the wyvern's collapse. Isobel was picking up her knives, and Fletcher went to retrieve his arrows. Evren picked up the treasures and the purple mana gems and headed to the far side of the room to find his arrow.

As everyone gathered on Evren, they found the arrow, about five meters off the ground in the wall. "Harley," Evren said, "do you think you can reach that using your feathered cloak?"

"I'll try Mr. Evren." She responded and began to put magic into the cloak, lifting off the ground but coming just a little short.

Evren used telekinesis to lift her up the last few centimeters and she grasped upon the arrow and pulled. Instead of pulling the arrow out, it pulled her closer to the wall. She put a foot on the wall and yanked the arrow out and floated to the center of the room with a giggle. Evren let her go when he felt she was under her own control and looked to Walter. "How's the arm?"

"A little tender, but Harley fixed me up." Walter said with a smile.

"Here you go Mr. Evren!" Harley said as she returned the arrow to Evren.

Evren reached inside his backpack and pulled out his quiver, put the arrow inside and returned the quiver to the backpack. He then looked to Fletcher and Isobel who were walking up and asked them, "You guys find all your stuff?"

Fletcher nodded, and Isobel said, "Yep, here's your dagger back. Thanks, it worked great."

Evren took the dagger and dropped it into his backpack, reaching in and grabbing hers and handing it to her. "Oh, by the way," he said, "You would probably want these wouldn't you?" Evren held out two daggers in sheathes.

Isobel took the daggers and examined them. The sheathes were black as was the handles. The guard on one of the daggers was red, the other blue. Isobel drew out the one with the blue guard and found the blade to be blue as well. She drew out the other one and found the blade to be red. Holding one in each hand, the blades were thirty centimeters long and the blade swept up a little at the end. She poured magic into them, and they both glowed their respective colors of red and blue.

The smile on her face glowed as brightly as the blades themselves. "Can I really keep these?" she said as she looked around. Everyone was smiling and nodding. She put them back in their sheathes and began fastening them to her belt.

Evren said, "I guess I don't need to make you any now."

Isobel looked to Evren with a smile and held out her old dagger, "Do you want this back?"

Evren shook his head, "Nope, that's yours. Keep it for a spare."

Isobel nodded and smiled. "Thanks everyone."

Evren pushed the exit doors open and passed through. The passageway was stone and lead downward in a circle for a while before straightening out and leading out to the base of a mountain. Immediately in front of them was a small dragon, the size of a wyvern without wings with red scales and it was looking at them.

Evren said, "And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a drake."
