I wake up with a jolt.
It was a dream, and dream that felt so real. I wipe the water off my face. Wait.
"What the - "
"Rise and shine, cupcake"
"Bianca, what are you doing in my room and why am I drenched in water?"
"Oh, you wouldn't wake up so what other choice did I have" she said, lifting up the now empty bucket and giving me an innocent look.
"I'm drenched in water because of you at..." I pause, looking at the alarm clock on my dresser "07:30"
"So?"
"So, why am I up early on my day off and don't you have to be at work?"
"Yeah, my shift doesn't start until 15:30, so I thought why not spend the time I have with my best bud"
"Even though I'd rather be cuddling up with Jason" she adds under her breath.
But I heard her clearly.
"Okay"
"Go get ready, I'll start preparing breakfast" she said while walking out of my room
Bianca and I have been friends since college. We met on orientation day and have been besties ever since. We both also ended up working at the same hospital. St. Lucia's hospital.
I guess fate wanted us to stay together. While Bianca works as a paediatrician, I am a surgeon
"Hurry up El"
"Fine!"
I get up from my now soaked bed and make my way to the bathroom. I take a quick warm shower because I don't want Bianca to pop up and drag me out butt-naked.
After I'm done, I quickly run back to my room with nothing but a towel wrapped around me.
"Girl, why you hiding? It's not like I've never seen you naked before!" Bianca yells from the kitchen.
"Ugh, I hate you" I yell back and shut the door just when she begins laughing.
I get dressed in ripped jeans and a white blouse and put on my black vans. Nice and simple
"El, you better get out of there before I drag you out by your nostrils" Bee screams
"Okay, I'm done" I say and swing the door open to reveal a grinning Bianca
"Good, breakfast's ready"
I follow her to the kitchen and sit on the stool by the kitchen counter and Bianca sits next to me
"You know, you're really violent." I say to her.
She throws me a playful glare. "Just eat your food."
And with that I dig into the delicious looking stack of pancakes.
"So where are we going?" I as
"To the mall" was her short response as she went back to eating.
We finish our breakfast and I went to place our dirty plates in the sink.
"Why are we going to the mall?"
"What kind of question is that? Obviously to buy stuff... and maybe get you a boyfriend" she says
"Okay, wait wha- boyfriend?"
"Yes, El, a boyfriend."
"I don't need or even want a boyfriend, Bee"
"Why? I thought you got over Nick. You know Jason and I can't stand to see you all lonely when you join us on movie nights"
Jason is Bianca's boyfriend. They've been dating for about a year now. Jason (Jas) was also a friend of mine since college too. It took years for me to convince them to confess their feelings towards each other.
And as for Nick. He was my boyfriend for about a year. I caught him cheating on me with my cousin, Ruby, so we broke up. That was 3 years ago and I haven't spoken to either one of them ever since.
"I am over Nick, Bee. It was 3 years ago"
"I just don't want you to die a sad, old woman with a lot of cats." she says
"Now you know that won't happen...I don't even like cats that much."
"It will happen if you don't get a man"
"Lets just drop it, Bee."
"No, no, I wont. Tell me, when was the last time you went out on a date or the last time you had a boyfriend or-"
"Drop it, Bee, I mean it!" I harshly say through gritted teeth while giving her a warning glare.
She raises her hands in surrender.
"Lets just go. It's 09:30 already" she says
"Let me go get my bag"
After grabbing my bag from my room and making sure to leave the window open so that my bed can dry up, I meet Bianca by the door.
"Alright lets go"
We take the elevator down and head to her car. See, I live on the third floor of my apartment building in a two bedroom apartment that is only 20-30 minutes away from the hospital I work at. Plus the fact that its also affordable.
We get into Bianca's car, since she'll have to go to work later.
The drive to the mall is silent. Something that never happens when Bianca and I are in the same car.
"I'm sorry" she utters
"What?" I ask
"I didn't mean to make you mad. I'm just a concerned friend who wants her friend to find love." she explains
"It's okay, Bee"
"You know, I love you right?" she says glancing at me and then turning back to the road
"I know and I'll never forget that" I say with a small smile on my face.
I reach towards the radio and connect my phone to it and start playing songs on my playlist.
The rest of the way to the mall is filled with the sound of our horrible voices singing along with the music.
