Chapter 4 - Chaos

As the elves began to disappear, time began to flow normally again, and once all the people began to move again, I had only one though in my mind. "I have to get my Family out of this city!". I flagged down a cab, got in, and told him, "South Bronx, 1073 Maddison Ave, Please!!". At that moment I didn't care about school, job, or my future as an entrepreneur. I was only a few blocks away from my family's apartment until, "BOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!!!!!!". Everyone in the world could feel the earth itself tremble and shake as the noise traveled throughout the world, as if a bullet from a gun was shot in an empty and enclosed space and you were the only one in there. Everyone stood still... and then it started to rain, but this wasn't a regular rain, it was green, everyone thought that it was acid rain at first and continued to go about their day. Trying to maintain their oblivious front about the noise that had made the whole world awaken and stand still. But I knew better, I paid the fare, got out of the cab and ran looking forward towards my apartment. It was there, where my grandfather had been homeschooling my younger sister and brother about a month ago... that was when we had our father and mother's funeral. They um... unfortunately died in a car accident, they were driving down a mountain pass from the cabin they rented in the woods for their anniversary honeymoon, They couldn't see the truck that was heading up their way due to the morning fog. In order to avoid the coalition of two vehicles, my parents decided to rashly move to the right quickly, due to the fact that the truck driver was sleep deprived and was drifting over to their side. In the end, they ended up sliding off the path and crashing into the wilderness since the path was wet from the rain that fell the night before they left. Medical support couldn't get there in time, by the time they arrived, my mother and father had...bleed out. They were gone, and they were never coming back.

"I'm not going to let that happen again this time!" I thought, finally, In front of me stood our four story apartment, there we're a lot of things that I hated about that apartment. Behind each door there was a living room only big enough to fit in a small couch, reclining chair, one small piece of furniture, and a small tv. There are two bedrooms with enough space for only a full XL mattress, a cabinet and that's it. Each bedroom has a built-in closet, the kitchen is so small, only one person can enter in order to cook or to get whatever they need with a window in the left wall...the only window in the apartment. There's only a stove with an oven only big enough for storage for your cookware and grocery bags, and three small kitchen cabinets that can only hold only the necessary dinnerware above the sink. Under it, laid the mini fridge, and the wall with the window was covered up with the washer and dryer machine being stacked up on each other. Finally, perhaps the most smallest room in the entire apartment was the bathroom, with only an inch of distance between the toilet and the shower, same with the sink and toilet measurements by the way. We could only use the bathroom one at a time, for simple things such as brushing our teeth, combing our hair, washing our faces, etc. But the worst thing that I hated about that apartment was the paint choice, yellow, "Why color an apartment yellow!?!?" I always thought. The infestation of cockroaches setting nests under the fallen places of paint in the walls, sometimes lights flickered or just straight out stopped working. Leaving us to just sleep in the dark with no working appliances.

Even with countless pleading and discussion, the landlord would always say, "If you don't like it, then go live somewhere else, that is... if you can afford it". With only my grandfather's salary in the construction industry, and my earnings as a convenience store worker in week days after school & delivery boy in the weekends, there wasn't really another place that would welcome us. But I promised myself that someday I would open my own Business and get my family out of that hell hole, even if that was the last thing I would ever do in this earth.

I ran towards the gray building and started going up the stairs up to the fourth floor which was the floor where my sister, brother, & grandfather were staying at. As I was skipping steps and panting like a madman, I Heard I Scream, "AAAAARGHHH!!! HEEELP MEEEEE!!!!". I turned around and saw a woman hunched down with her right shoulder bleeding. "Please, Pleaase, Help me!!! I'm Begg-agh". I saw her get shot by an arrow through her chest. I watched in horror as tiny little green creatures with big ugly ears and noses, and eyes as dark as the abyss came out from the shadows to take away their big game. I watched in a half shock and half terrified state as the tiny green ugly creatures started to pound that woman's head into mush with their mase and spreading blood all over the pavement and their tattered pelt skirts as clothing.

"Should I run? Should I hide? Should I go down there and stop those things? should I call for the police?" , My head was spiraling with thoughts on how to process the situation that I didn't notice an arrow being shot at me. ""FWWIT!!" the arrow went flying beside my head and getting stuck to the wall. At that moment I was snapped back into reality and once again driven to my important task ahead. "I have to get to my family and get them out of this wretched place!"
