The point of a disguise is to conceal someone's identity. The good part about a disguise is you have to be someone you are not. This could be an alternate persona you have always wanted to play with or a character you have been dying to try out. The bad part about a disguise is you have to be someone you are not. You have to stick to it no matter the situation you are in.
My disguise started out as fun. I got to explore the more introverted and shy side of myself. Now, I just want it to be over. I just really want to be myself again and be able to punch Mike Roberts.
When I arrived at school, the parking lot was filled with expensive cars and chauffeurs. The perfectly manicured lawn in front of the main building was littered with a lot of students and a few numbers of bodyguards for certain people. The school had one of the best security around, but parents can never be too safe when it comes to their children, at least that is what I have been told.
Students were busy chatting with each other about their, most likely over-the-top, summer vacations. Everyone wore their perfectly pressed uniforms that were fitted just right to their bodies, while I just wore mine that was wrinkly and loose. That was the point anyway, I could not draw so much attention to me.
I walked right past the lawn and straight into the main building. Many students were too busy talking in front of their dull grey colored lockers to even notice me. I maneuvered myself around ignorant and oblivious students to get to my locker. As I turned a corner, I bumped into someone.
"Sorry," I mumbled softly.
When I looked up, I saw a pair of hazelnut eyes stare at me. I saw him change from surprise to anger in a nanosecond. Mike Roberts was the resident heartthrob of Privaria Elite Royal Academy. He is literally the most popular guy in the school known for his good looks and bad boy attitude. His grandfather happens to be one of the advisors of the king. While his mother is an actress and his father is an ambassador to a neighboring country.
"Watch where you are going, Wilson!" He practically screamed.
Everyone's conversation stop and they turned their attention to Mike and me. New conversations started as they watched the scene in front of them unfold. I ignored most of them as they were painting me in a bad light anyway.
"Sorry," I said louder this time as I tried to walk away.
Before I could get two steps away from him, Mike grabbed my upper arm and forced me to turn around. I guess saying sorry was not enough for him. I clenched my jaw a little bit out of irritation.
Fudge and sprinkles.
I cannot fight back. I remembered my disguise and pushed my glasses up, forcing my anger down. I played the role of a nerd, not a jock.
"You do not just get to walk away from me!" Mike said gripping my arm tightly. I'm pretty sure a bruise is forming on my arm already.
It is not uncommon to find Mike picking and teasing students like me, or anyone who is below his social standing. It just turned out to be the first time he might leave a bruise. Normally it is just the usual insults and maybe a shove at best.
"Please let go, Mike. You're hurting me." I said in a firm voice.
My hand instantly formed into a closed fist when he refused to let go. I had to look down at the ground to keep myself from punching the jerk. My hand was so clenched that my knuckles were turning white and my nails were digging into my skin.
I looked up just as the crowd parted. A blonde-haired girl appeared right behind Mike. I instantly recognized the person and relaxed a little. The girl put her hand softly on Mike's shoulder and he turned his head to face her.
"What do you want Shine?" Mike asked the blonde, his anger subsiding a little.
"Brother, can't you see you're hurting her? Please let her go." The blonde girl pleaded with her brother.
Just so you know, the amazing blonde girl is my one and only best friend Sunshine. Yep, Mike is her brother and he has been terrorizing us since we were little.
Mike finally let go of my arm and I instinctively rub the sore area. Sunshine looked at me with apologetic eyes just as I turned on my heel and went straight to the nearest girls' restroom. The crowd slowly dispersed and went back to their normal conversations as I reached the doors of the restroom.
I pushed the doors open and made sure I was the only one there before I took off my blazer and looked at my arm. A bruise in the form of Mike's hand was forming. I took out a small handkerchief from my bag and ran it under cold water. I wrung it to remove the excess water and placed it gently on the bruise.
My phone buzzed just as I stepped out of the restroom. I got a text from Sunshine.
*Sorry about my brother. Haley just broke up with him so he is just in a bad mood. Are you okay? Talk later?*
I quickly typed out a reply and pocketed my phone. The bell just rang and I cannot wait for this day to end.
