Violetta woke up early, before the others. She wasn't hungry but knew Heath needed to eat. She put on her wig and her adopted persona and left the room. Violetta saw that they were almost to the island. They would barely have enough time to eat, and then it would be time to get off the ship. She quickly brought back breakfast for Heath. She couldn't eat much, but ate a little so he wouldn't worry. Heath looked relieved to see Violetta eating.
Araminty refreshed herself by adding extra water to her steam unit.
"How did you sleep?" Violetta aske Araminty. She knew it was Araminty's way of grieving.
"I slept ok," She didn't add on that she dreamt about happy memories with Amistad. She knew as sad as she was Violetta must also be feeling just as sad, if not worse.
When Heath heard Violetta ask Araminty about her sleep he frowned. He didn't think Violetta had enough sleep.
He had fallen asleep while she read her book, and woke up late into the night when Violetta finally went to bed. And now in the morning she woke up before him? Violetta was definitely not okay.
"How did you sleep?" Heath asked Violetta back. Let's see if she dared to lie to him.
"I slept fine," Violetta didn't have any nightmares, nor did she have any pleasant dreams. She fell asleep, and before she knew it, it was morning. So she must have slept fine right?
"You didn't get enough sleep," Heath said.
"I think I'm ok though," Violetta furrowed her eyebrows. Was he trying to start a fight? "I don't feel tired at all."
"If you need a nap today at any point, you have to tell me," Heath demanded. If Violetta needed sleep, even if they were in a situation where they couldn't stop walking, then he would just carry her.
"Ok," Violetta realized she had still made him worry. She would have to try harder to not let him worry.
…
…
When Heath and Violetta descended from the ferry they were astonished to see the beauty of the Islands in front of them. The light breeze infiltrated their nostrils with salty air. They were now on the dock at the edge of the city. Violetta knew these Islands were still under the rule of Amrica City, so they would likely not be able to go deep into town. In order to throw off anyone who might have suspicions of them, they acted like they were excited to enter the small city in front of them.
On the Inoahni Islands most humans and dwarves that came here stayed in the city. It was rare for them to go to any of the local Malkin towns around the islands. Most of the Malkin liked to settle closer to the ocean, on the smaller Inoahni Islands. But this was not the case for all of them. They were still the founders of Inoa City, and there were still a great deal of Malkin all around.
Seafood was a staple of their diet, and they always made excellent food. There were a lot of Malkin owned restaurants in the towns.
Violetta and Heath looked around a little lost. Neither of them had been away from Amrica City. They didn't know what to do now that they had made it here. Ultimately they had to charter a way to the Nondren continent from here, but they had no way of making this charter without arousing suspicion right now. They also didn't know if word had reached the Islands about them yet or not.
"Mr. and Mrs. Beauford?" A Malkin woman suddenly called out to them, pulling them back to reality. Violetta had almost forgotten the fake names on their new Identities.
"That'd be me," Heath said, adopting his persona once again. Violetta pinched his arm. This was her first time seeing a full blooded Malkin. She looked so fluffy. Violetta almost wanted to bet the woman, but alarm bells were also ringing in her head. How could the Malkin know their false identities?
"...Yes," The Malkin woman said looking at him like he was not what she imagined. "I'm here to pick you up for your apprenticeship."
Heath and Violetta looked at each other confused. The apprenticeship was just a ruse to get on the ferry. There wasn't really an apprenticeship. What was going on? They simultaneously looked to Araminty.
Araminty shook her head. She also didn't know what was going on. The Malkin woman smiled to reassure them. "You had a long journey. Why don't you come with me over to that cabana, and we'll get some refreshments before we head out."
They were being watched by the dock workers. Word that they had possibly escaped Amrica city had already spread to the Islands. The locals would be on the lookout for a young man and woman matching Heath and Violetta's original description. Luckily they didn't quite match the description that had been put out on them.
They realized this Malkin woman was there at just the right time to dissuade any suspicions the dock workers might have been having at this moment.
But how did she know who they were. She even used the names on their fake ID's to get their attention and make it look like they really were there for an apprenticeship.
What if she was there from the government?
Should they really follow her? This could be a trap. But looking around, what choice did they have? The three of them followed her over to the cabana and ordered some local Island juices and got a little extra water for Araminty.
The only other person at the cabana was another Malkin. He was the one making their drinks.
"Sorry about all the confusion," the Malkin woman said quietly as the Malkin server turned up the radio. He also switched on a frequency disruptor. Even with the loud music, they did not want their conversation to be recorded from far away.
"My grandpa is an auror," the Malkin woman explained smiling. She was a bubbly person. "I'm Charity Gray. This is my brother Al."
"Alex," he said as he continued to mix the drink in front of them. Where she was bubbly he was serious.
"As I was saying," Charity continued, "my grandpa is an auror. He knew you were on your way here. He knows where you need to go, and he said he will help you get there." Here Charity paused for effect. She was very dramatic most of the time.
"-if you help him out first," Al continued before Charity could.
"I was getting there," Charity glared at him.
"They don't have time for your dramatics," Al said. He pointed to Charity. "She'll take you to see grandpa. You can decide if you want to help put the old man from there."
Violetta and Heath both agreed to go with Charity.
"Great!," Charity exclaimed excitedly. "It'll take a couple of hours to get there. We have to go by boat. It's on another Island."
Charity led the trio away from the cabana and continued talking about how the fishing area wasn't too far from the city, so Mrs Beauford could enjoy her time in the city, and that there was a possibility of working for the theater there in town. She inferred that Mrs Beauford had given up an apprenticeship as a makeup artist to come here with her newly wedded husband.
She took them to a car. Something that Violetta hadn't seen in a long time. It was not a self-driving carriage. She was excited because Charity would have to maneuver the vehicle herself. Violetta barely managed not to squeal in excitement as charity started the car. Heath had to hold onto her so she wouldn't break character.
Violetta, Heath and Araminty continued their act until they were well out of the city. Charity drove them to a small dock where she had a speedboat prepared. This was how they would get to their destination.
"You guys can drop the act now and get comfortable," Charity said. Finally they were able to be themselves. In about 3 hours they would be at the Kekalym Village on the furthest Island.
