After that night everyone was uneasy. You could tell that Non-Stop thoughts of questions that pleaded to be answered were nagging in everyone's head. We need a new leader and fast. If we don't get ourselves together then we'll fall down into the imposters' hands. Bernard waves his hand in my face "Hey polly, can you grab some fuel so I can refill the tank?" I let out a stressed sigh. "We have to refill it again?!?! If we keep this up we'll run out of fuel. I will grab the fuel this time, but tell everyone to stop using so much energy on the ship. for now we have
to take 5 minute Showers, and no night lights for the kids. We can't waste too much energy or else the lights will have a fuse and break like last time." Bernard starts to look nervous "Oh..ok.. I'll make sure to tell them." He walks off to Lower Engine while I go to Storage. I pry a crate open which make's a loud noise in the process.
I grab a bucket of fuel and as I walk off I hear a noise. It sounds like a… baby! I walk around the room to wear the noise, get louder and stop in front of a closet. It's jammed shut! I yell for Kiori but she doesn't come. Maybe she's busy. Guess i'll go get the keys myself! I walk into security to catch her making out with pink. I make a loud cough "Am I interrupting something?" Kiori jumps off of Malachai and they both stare at me with guilt. "Don't worry i'll keep your secret safe." they look at me with relief. "Thank you polly you don't know how much this means to me." malachi makes a hand gesture then runs back to his station.
"anyways...Is there anything I can do for you?" I look at the keys attached to her pocket. "Can I borrow the key that locks the closet in storage." she looks at me confused "Why? There's nothing in that closet" I think of a quick excuse "That's why I want to use it, so I can put stuff in there." She hands me the keys without hesitation and sends me on her way so she can watch Malichai on the cams. I run back to storage and open the closet door.
There's a baby in here! But what's that attached to its blanket? There's a note from the captain that says "To whoever finds this, someone is after me and I think there trying to kill me. I hid my child in the closet so she can be safe, please take care of her because she has a longer life to live. If you survive and make it home back to earth, don't give her to her mother. Here's my signature to adopt her, please take care of my baby girl. P.S her name is Anya." My eyes swell up as I think of how brave the captain was to do this for his child. I take a pen out of my pocket and sign the paper to adopt her without thinking about the rest of the crew. Shoot I forgot to give Bernard the fuel. Ugh, I need to give this child some food first. It must be starving, Bernard can wait. I run to the cafeteria and go into the captain's side which is usually restricted to crewmates.
I open some drawers and find a load of bottles and a load of food. I quickly made a bottle and fed it to the baby as I walked to the lower engine to give Bernard the fuel. "Where have you been, I've waited here over an hour."
He has a mad expression on his face until he spots the baby, it's like he knows itsd captain by the face he makes when he sees her.
"As you can tell I had my hands full." he says bluntly and stern "Where did you get that baby?!?" "I found her in storage with a note from the captain." "We have to tell everyone Polly." I make a sad face "I know…" Bernard calls a meeting and everyone walks into the cafeteria. I Take Role Call to make sure everyone is here, and explain the situation. They all stare at the baby in my hands with tears in their eyes and complete silence as I read the note from the captain.
"Where's the Adoption paper? I'll take care of the baby, since I'm a mother already." Reuru obviously doesn't trust me with the baby and I don't think anyone else does either. "What about me, I think I would be a very responsible dad as well." pink seems to really want the child to, since it is captains' afterall. I start to get sweaty palms as I'm holding the baby and show the paper. "I'm sorry I wasn't thinking, I already signed the paper. I'm now the legal guardian of Anya.
Everyone looks either mad or disappointed in me. "So you found the baby and signed the papers without any discussion or thoughts of TELLING US?!?!" Cindy seems to be mad as well which is odd considering she never liked kids. Kiori doesn't say anything, maybe because I now know her secret. Everyone leaves with disappointment on their faces as they walk to our dorms.
"Bell, what about you? Are you mad at me as well?" she gives me a hug "I'm not mad, i'm just upset you didn't tell anyone before you signed. A baby is a big responsibility, and there are people who have dealt with kids longer than you. This is your first time with a kid. Do you even know how to take care of one?" She could tell by the look on my face that I don't and gives a long sigh of untrust. "Look I can do this Bell! I've always wanted to have a kid and wasn't able to how one, now I can! the moment the baby's eyes looked into mine, I knew she was going to be mine." I laugh nervously, and hug her before going to bed. I lay next to the sweet child with happiness that I haven't felt for a while as I drift off to sleep.
