Chapter 4 - FLYING TO NEW YORK

𝓜𝓪𝓭𝓲𝓼𝓼𝓸𝓷

—"The Academy" has become famous for the last ten years —the monotonous voice of the woman reached my ears from the screen in front of me—. The nicknamed "Spy Maker" has amazed the world on the internet and global as well as local news; More and more young people of different nationalities are registering for the auditions of this private institution in New York City, few are those who enter since the requirements are too strict based on intelligence and physique depending on the subject that you want to apply...

The same news channel was played on all the small digital screens on the plane. Most of us were already seated and ready to go, however others were still arranging their carry—on luggage.

—... with the amount of one hundred students in tot...

I turned off the T.V., I didn't want to be listening to any of that. It made me nervous especially because I was part of that "Spy Maker" or whatever they say. Today would be my graduation and I wanted to refresh my mind. The good thing about being a student of SPIEDS ACADEMY, is the first class when traveling, these private cabins and Commodes on airplanes are the best.

We'll be here for about four or five hours, so I'd better get ready for sleep after a tiring job. I curled up ready to sleep like a baby and allowed myself a well—deserved rest.

—Pss, Madisson… Did you fall asleep? —she knocked on the door.

—Yeah...

—Oh nice! I can´t sleep either. Hey, do you know who Ben saw at school?

—Alizee, I wanna sleep not gossip...

—Wh… I'm not coming to gossip! —She exclaimed indignantly— It's about your mother. Ben saw your mother, looks like she's staying to see graduation.

—What? —I got up in a second— And why now he wants to give me that splendid visit after not seeing me in three months?

Alizee's head was sticking out of my place, I was sure she was on tiptoe.

—I don't know, Mad. You will have to ask her yourself.

My mother has been a piece of work since my father's death. She and I do not have a good relationship and she had never shown interest in my studies, nor is she one of those mothers who show off her daughter and say: "she is the apple of my eye" to whom she approaches. And I don't mean that she doesn't love me or that I don't love her, after all she and I are mother and daughter.

—Well, I came to warn you. You can go back to sleep.

And with that she returned to her place, leaving me with a worry on my shoulders.

And I wanted to sleep like a baby…

(…)

—Hey, Mad. We have arrived, wake up!

My eyes opened quickly and my hands made rapid movements seeking to recognize the environment where I was. Hell, I had a nightmare.

—Oh, my God. Thanks for waking up I had a terrible nightmare –I let her know while rubbing my eyes. I realized that the door to my cabin was open and I hurried to get ready to get out. Alizee was ready, it was just a matter of getting off the plane.

—Mmm, let me guess —she raised an eyebrow and touched her chin with her index finger—. Did you dream about your mother?

—Damn, yeah... I was kind of in a... —I arranged my hair and tied it in a little ponytail—, garden? Yes, garden. There was a fountain and I decided to get closer to see, then my reflection that was projected in the water... Poom! —I hit the pillow— became my mother, and started yelling at me: Leave the academy, you will end up just like your father!

—Woah, I feel bad for you.

—Yes! —I got out of the booth and walked down the hall— Then the screams turned into babbling...

—But on the other hand you slept, right?

—Well... I closed my eyes like half an hour ago, besides, I wouldn't call that ugly dream sleeping. And I didn't eat anything either, my appetite ran out.

—What? If you are so disciplined about it.

—I know…

The flight attendant gave us access to the departure of the plane, then we went to the disembarkation hall and we, together with the passengers, went to the luggage room to collect our bags.

—After this you should have dinner, ok? — Alizee suggested — When I get there I'll go straight to sleep, I miss my bed.

—But you slept the whole flight.

—So?

I saw our luggage being transported by the belt and we went to get it. After we leaved the airport, someone else will pick us up and take us to the Academy, which is also a home for all of us there. The institution provides us with rooms and food every day during our time there. I share a bunk with Alizee and I am thankful that I got used to sleeping well despite her snoring.

As I said, at the exit a car was waiting for us. It wasn't as flashy as the limo that made us get some glances. The driver came up to us and showed us his ID and we got on the shuttle.

It was not such a long drive and we finally reached our sweet home. The driver parked in the parking lot near the area where the bedrooms were located. We thanked him for the transport and went straight inside.

—Madisson —she paused to yawn— I'll go to the room. You go to dinner, I'll wait for you there.

—Yes, it's okay. Go and rest.

I went to the dining room, the tables were waiting lonely in the morning to be filled and the food to be served. I grabbed a bowl and walked over to the cereal dispenser, poured some, and went for the milk to serve myself. I took a spoon and began to eat sitting at one of the tables.

I looked up and...

—Mother? —I almost spat out the cereal.

-Oh, Madisson? I thought you would arrive in the morning.
