Daniel's pov
School finally came to an end and I couldn't be happier! I Picked up my backpack and walked out of class with my head bowed once again, nothing new. After a few minutes of dodging and avoiding being crushed by students, I finally left the school building.
When I got to the school's parking lot, I entered into my car or rather, the car that was sent to pick me up from school. It's a somewhat expensive car, but it's the kind that only car lovers would know its price because it wasn't really flashy or anything. And that was why my dad thought it was a perfect choice of car for me.
"Good afternoon sir" I said to the driver, Mr Chris, when I got into the car.
"And a very good afternoon to you too, Mr Morgan" he replied
"Seriously? " I asked him, giving him a hard look.
Mr Chris is like a second father to me and has been there for me a lot, especially when my parents are too busy for me. He has also been working for my family for years, way before I was born and he also knows I despise being called that. A lot!
Mr Morgan, my foot. That title belongs to my "father"
"What?" He said giving me an innocent look
"You know what! " I replied squinting my eyes at him while folding my arms
"No I don't. I'm just preparing you for what's to eventually come and technically your name is Mr Morgan, sir. Or is it not? " he added, making me glare at him.
"But you know I hate being called that, right? " I answered scooting closer to him
"Yeah I know"he said looking back at me with a grin. "But I couldn't resist, your reaction was priceless! I'm sorry, I was just messing with you" he said still grinning and not looking apologetic at all
I rolled my eyes, trying to keep a serious face and pretend to still be mad, but I couldn't maintain it for long and ended up smiling back at him
"But on a more serious note Dan, you need to start getting used to being called that because as soon as you take over your family's business, that's all you're going to be called. I'm sure you know that right? " he said while pulling the car out of the school
"Yeah, I know" I said with a sigh sinking into the car seat. "It's just uncomfortable for me but when I reach that bridge I'll cross it. But till I reach the bridge my name still remains Daniel" ending further discussions on the topic
He asked how school was and some other questions on our way home. I gave him some vague answers because I really didn't want to discuss about school.
"Thank you" I said getting off the car as soon as we got home
"No need, I'm just doing my job... " he said. But when he smirked, I knew what was coming next. "... Mr Morgan" he completed bursting into laughter
"You're impossible" I replied to him with a glare and stormed off
Walking into the house, I expected to find it deserted as usual but I was surprised to see my entire family in the living room.
My elder sister, Liliana and her husband Jake were present. I was also shocked to see my kid sisters, Julia and Pearl, because they usually get back two hours after I do. But I was beyond shocked to see my dad there. He is almost never around. My mom was also there too.
"Goodday everyone " I said quietly in a bid to make my presence known and find out why they were all gathered
I didn't think that through, I guess? Because six pairs of eyes were suddenly directed towards me making me very uncomfortable. They were my family but that didn't change how awkward I felt under their stare
"Oh welcome home dear" my mom answered
"Thanks mom"I replied
"Hello" Jake said with a smile, while Liliana said "Hi, bro". To which I responded "hey " to.
My kid sisters yelled "Danny! ", ran up to me and gave me hugs which I returned. I loved them both but I won't lie, I have a special spot for pearl since she's the youngest.
"How was school and why are you back so early?" I asked the both of them, my eyes moving between either of them
"School was good, but I don't know, mum just picked us up" Julia replied in her usual bored tone
"School was great! I had so much fun, and I even became friends with a new girl in my class! We did a lot of art portraits in school. I pain re a picture of our family" She rushed out excitedly without even pausing for a breath. Clearly only the first part of my question registered in her head.
"Ok that's great " I replied to both of them smiling
"Good thing you are back, we've been waiting for you, go get changed we are all going out to celebrate" My dad said looking at me
"Ok sir" I said heading towards the stairs immediately without questioning the order
"Make it quick son" my mom added with so much enthusiasm. She was sitted beside my sister, holding her hands affectionately and bouncing excitedly where she was seated
"Yes ma'am, but what are we celebrating?" I asked wanting to know what made her so giddy. I mean she's usually happy but not this happy
"Well your sister is pregnant! I'm going to be a grandma, isn't that great! So, we decided to kill two birds with one stone and celebrate now since we were already going to go out anyway"she said happily
"Ok? so what's the other bird?" I asked still going up the stairs
"Well, we have finally fixed a date for your wedding" my dad said in firm voice, making me trip and almost crack open my head on the stairs.
Well, it's a good thing they invented railings, right?
