Travelling on uncharted territory for three days with unfamiliar faces and characters can take a toll on a person. At the beginning of this journey, l was excited to be leaving pack lands seeing that wasn't a luxury l was afforded as an Omega.
The stigma against Omegas is real and one that would take years to change. Their concern was valid but the treatment was uncalled for. It didn't matter though because the only reason they were worried was because they knew all the chores would rest on their shoulders.
And the only thing to do was out their pride aside for a shirt-while to get what they wanted. Antonio had said that the purpose of this trip is for us to put aside our differences and work together to save our pack. Even if that meant putting our pride aside and taking the step to becoming boring cliche mates.
That is not something l could bring myself to do. He expected his partner to be a piece of candy on his arm that he could show off to the world and l wanted to fulfill my purpose. I was born to be a leader, to change the world and l won't be able to do that with a misogynistic man by my side
I will admit that it is rather harsh for me to judge him before l get to know him but he had shown me enough in the time l had spent in the pack. The time he had spent hating me for something l never was. The man acted like he pooped gold just because he has status and that is a major red flag for me
I could never compromise my values in the name of love. Love would only distract me and mess with my mind. My priority is to serve my people and not a man. My heart and wolf have always longed to be loved, maybe my mind did too but when l discovered that Antonio is the man destined to give me all that love, my standpoint changed
"Alpha, we will be arriving in the next fifteen minutes" the driver who sat besides me said to Antonio who had his feet propped up on the seat in front of him. Akya had opted to drive in the car behind with the annoying Gamma who doesn't know how to be a normal person because all he cares about is being Antonio's sidekick
"Did you inform Alpha Kyle?" he asked the driver even though that was his job as the Alpha. Not only is he incompetent but he is lazy as well
"is that not something the Alpha should do or are you that lazy that you can't pick up a phone?" l asked. He had warned me not to cause a scene in front of the driver because he didn't want to create a scene that would expose our mate status to the world but l couldn't help myself
"Gamma Nelson did" the driver spoke knowing that if he didn't defuse the situation, all hell would break loose
"good" he said ignoring what l had just said
"Are you sure you were meant to be Alpha?" l asked taunting him. From past situations, l have learnt that Antonio is a very prideful man and whenever he feels his manhood is questioned he becomes defensive and that was the side l wanted to get out of him because that was our best chance at convincing the Red Blood pack to fight on our side, whichever side that is
Antonio tends to be a pushover at times because for whatever reason everyone in power has to love while everyone at the bottom hates him. And that is not the Antonio we need today
"I am about to meet an important person, are you trying to make me fail?" he asked sitting up straight and looking at me while the driver does what he does best, turns the other way and acts like we are not in the car
"Not in the slightest. I am actually trying to help you. You act like Alpha Kyle is an god or something. Don't forget that you are both Alpha's." l tell him in hopes he understands what l am implying
"l know how to negotiate Attica. Alphas want to be respected and that's how you win them over to your side" he has a point but at what cost
"you win them over because in their minds they think they will control the situation by being the boss and when you try to take back your power they will threaten to jump ship leaving you in an uncomfortable position. Is that what you want?" l knew all this from experience because once upon a time l was an Antonio as well. I had no one to guide me and l found myself in a lot of sticky situations, it didn't help being a woman because in my time women were not respected. Not like it is any different now
I would say it has gotten worse over the years. At least during my time, l wasn't the first or only woman in power. There were more and were respected by their subordinates, that hasn't been heard of in centuries
"we are here sir" the driver announces. It was then that l noticed how far we had ventured into the pack as we were parked outside the pack house. Standing in front of the house were the leaders dressed in their finest clothing to impress people who cared less about their outfit choices and more on their alliance
"l heard you and l promise to be assertive. If l had already announced you as my mate we would walk in together but for now everyone knows you as the omega. They will lead you to the kitchen so be helpful and don't embarrass me" he said stepping out of the car but l didn't miss the look of surprise on the drivers face. One less person to pretend in front of
We got out of the car and l immediately planted my eyes at my feet barring my neck out in surrender and respect
"Attica?" a voice l had last heard centuries ago said causing my heart to stop for a second because l had been compromised
