Chapter 12 - Act Two: Chapter Eleven: The Vault

Daniel Grayson,

The sound of my phone ringing brought me back to this world of despair. The sound, hammering in my head. I picked it up from the side table and brought it close to my face.

[Good morning, Daniel] Simon said in an irritably enthusiastic tone [Oh, it's you...Hey...Simon] I said with a tiresome tone,

A loud sigh escaped my mouth, as sat up straight on the edge of my bed.

[Hmm...Were you sleeping?] Simon asked purposely to annoy me [No...Of course not...I was just pretending to be tired and asleep] I said Finding my slippers [Well then keep it up...And so what about the amulet?]

[Yeah I got...(I said as I got up to walk to the kitchen) had to kill a six-armed giant cat alien] I said grabbing a glass [A what now?]

[Probably a minion of the servant, the I told you about. Had the same face as the rest, but could speak] I said filling up the glass with water from the tap [Speak huh, What did it say?]

[Some bullshit...anyway! I killed it] I said gulping down water [Well now, congratulation to you...Also about the federal gold reserve, they are sending an agent to pick you up] He said as I placed the glass back on the counter [For what?]

[He will fill you in about the details] Simon explained [Well done...Simon, you are useful after all] I said mockingly [My pleasure] Simon said blankly [Listen when I am done with Manhattan, I need a ride to California, Mojave Desert] I informed him [Okay...Got it]

[Sure...Talk to you later] I said and was about hangup the call [Sure...But before that, do you want to talk to Clementine?] Simon said stopping [Fuck you, Simon] I said ending the call

After talking to him, I took a deserving warm shower and then entered the kitchen to cook something to eat.

The Botanical Guest House was a perfect place to live the rest of your life. It had three bedrooms with blended country charm and with all modern conveniences. A fully equipped kitchen, satellite T.V., Wi-Fi, comfortable beds, all linens, washer, dryer, BBQ, large deck, fire pit, and a deep-freeze to store your catch of the day.

Sadly I was here just for today. Toasting some slices of bread, with two fried eggs and freshly brewed coffee. I sat on the table outside on the large deck. The sun had started to sat and the weather was just perfect, the cold wind was blowing and there was a fresh smell of wet soil around. After enjoyably ate my food, I went and cleaned up after myself, then brought out the Amulet for inspection.

I sat back down in the lounge chair, with it in my hand. I needed to understand what I could do with it. I looked at my empty coffee cup. I touched the cup and wanted it to go back to how it was before it was empty. The Amulet started to glow, as it did previously, and then From the center of the cup, the coffee started bubbling upwards unlit it was filled again. I smelled and tasted it, it was similar to what I had before. I poked my finger inside it, it was hot. Now I simply wanted to freeze it and from where my finger was, the coffee started to turn into solid ice, within a second.

Next, I wanted to change it into cola and again, it did and tasted exactly like how it should. I wanted to do more but suddenly heard a car pulling up in front of the guest house. I could see it as the deck was on the side of the house. A man in a black suit got out. I quickly got up and wore the amulet around my neck and tucked it under my shirt. I aimed my hand on the table, wanting to create another cup with coffee in it.

First blue light, then a cup of hot coffee replacing it. I wanted to get to the door quickly and just looking away from the table and I was standing in front of the door. What I learned that day was, The amulet was extremely convenient. As soon as the man rang the bell, the next second I opened the door, surprising him. He had silky black hair, smoothed backward. A young man in his late twenties.

[Ah...Good evening...Sir, might you be Daniel Grayson?] the man asked me politely [Yes, that would be me and who might you be] I asked [I am sure you heard of me from Mr. Simon] he said [I did...That you are from the Federal Reserve, but not anything else] he made a surprised expression upon hearing that [Oh I see...Then...I]

[Wait, come in first] I said walking inside [Ah, Sure...] He said following me

I brought him back with me to the deck, where we sat across from each other. I pushed the cup of coffee in front of him. Taking it, he continued.

[My name is Christopher Anderson, as told by Mr. Simon I am here on the behalf of the federal gold reserve... since its making in 1930, one of its vaults had been hidden from the official papers] Christopher explained [A hidden vault, how mysterious] I said with a smile

[Yes...The reserve itself is 80 feet under the street level, but it goes further 50 feet down, to the hidden Vault...And Mr. Simon brought it to our notice that you, Mr. Daniel, have the key to the vault] Christopher asked, the key, in this case, was the Amulet around my neck, I was certain it could open any lock [Ah yes...the key, I do have it, but I have to be in front of it to use it] I explained

[Of course, I understand, that is why I came to pick you up, Mr. Daniel] Christopher suddenly said [Oh... like are right now?] I asked confusedly [Well yes our flight is... (he gazed at his wristwatch) in an hour...Were you not informed]

[No, no I wasn't...Just let me grab my suit case] I said while cursing Simon in my head

[Sure...] He said while taking a sip of the coffee and upon taking a sip, he showed a surprising expression [Is this... cola?] he said looking at me, I looked down at the cup in front of me, It was the one with the steaming hot coffee [Oh sorry...That one is mine] I said pushing it in front of him and he did the same

I took mine and threw it in the garden, as I walked inside, with Christopher staring at me weirdly. Then I went inside to change, wearing my coat and shoes and picking up the Red Cross within the suitcase. A few minutes later we out in the car, heading towards Victoria Airport. From there another private flight. And it proved to be a long one, for two days I was stuck in the plane and afterward landed in New York, LaGuardia Airport, Just outside of Manhattan.
