Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Exploration (Part 2)

Vivian entered into a quiet hallway, with no trace of where the loud noise could have come from. To her right were three doors, and to her left were three more.

'Teacher said it was the second door to my left, so it should be right here...' she thought to herself as she slowly opened one of the doors, only to stop halfway.

'Well the bathroom is my final destination, but it couldn't hurt to explore just a little bit more,' Vivian smirked.

She quietly closed the bathroom door and turned back to where she came from. She had already seen the door to the basement so she figured she should start from the back and make her way to the bathroom.

Vivian had learned to always be careful when she was exploring so that no one would catch her and beat her, so now it was completely natural to walk along the walls where the structure of houses was stronger, so as to keep the floorboards from creaking.

Vivian quickly found herself at the end of the hall and opened the door warily. The door opened to a large room with two rows of beds along the walls. Each bed was uniform in its dusty sheets. Each bedside table was just as dusty and devoid of any personal utilities like a toothbrush or a book. The air was suffocating, almost as if it too was empty as a void.

Vivian felt the hair raise along her neck with how cold the temperature was and she quickly backed out of the morgue-like space.

She took inhaled quickly then exhaled slowly to calm herself.

'Well, that was really creepy. It seems that's where the servants would stay but where are the servants?' She wondered.

'I'll find out in due time, but for now, let's keep looking,' Vivian steeled herself for the next door beside the servant's quarters.

'This one should probably be the other gender of servants. I'll only take a small peek because it's most likely just as creepy as the other...' Vivian grimaced.

Vivian opened the door even slower than before but was surprised to see that the state of the other quarters were different.

This room was warm and had obviously been tended to with care. The rows of beds were stripped of linens except for one that was obviously still in use.

The table beside the bed had a cup with a toothbrush and toothpaste inside, a small manual looking book, a comb, and a bottle of pills.

Vivian wondered what the pills were, but decided not to check any further than looking, in case someone realized she was snooping.

'Oh no! Snooping traps!' Vivian paled at the thought of accidentally setting off some kind of small alert to the person living in this rooms. She immediately inspected the door for any king of hair or wood chip she might have moved. It could be anything or nothing at all, but she would definitely get in trouble if she was caught.

'Teacher might starve, or hit me, or put me somewhere bad, but please don't let her kick me out of the house! This is my last chance- NO! Stop thinking in circles and set everything back where it was.' Vivian calmed herself with one breath. Two breaths. Three.

There's nothing useful in a panic attack after all.

She placed every stray hair and dust bunny she could find back where it should be and closed the door to the room.

'All right. I may be pushing my luck, but I'll check one more door. After all, who knows if I'll get another chance like this.' She decided. Although it could be her undoing, her curiosity far outweighed her caution in this moment.

Vivian made a slow turn to face the next door.

She tiptoed one step at a time until she was close enough to hear a low swishing sound.

Vivian pressed one ear to the door and heard a sound much like water flowing through a stream.

'Strange, how could water flow inside of a house?' She mused as she pushed the door open while also watching for traps.

'Wow! It's beautiful!' Her eyes grew wide and her admiration for Teacher grew even larger.
