Synopsis
"You look amazing, Evangeline." He said, smiling, and showing his fangs. I wanted nothing more than to move up just a little and kiss his lips, but I knew that it was wrong. I moved away from him and took in every inch of him. His tuxedo was perfect, fitting him in just the right ways. His hair was styled and shining, and he looked every bit like the prince he was. Evangeline was an orphan, raised by the boarding school after the Great War. When Queen Anastasia comes to her school and turns her life upside down, can she keep her head on straight? Can she resist the handsome man she serves, and avoid the scorn of his royal fiance?

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

I sat down at the edge of the lake, near the small cottage where my parents lived.Everything was different now, and I was glad that they weren't around to see it. The year I was born, the Great War was ending, the war that would change everything. The vampires came out of hiding, and humans retaliated, not wanting to except the change. Both sides fought, millions of humans were slaughtered, until finally the humans surrendered. The vampires changed everything. Human children were all taken into boarding schools, and when we graduated we were assigned.Assignments were out jobs, but they were chosen by an elite council of vampires who placed us where we would help the most based on our skills. There was nothing worse than being a castaway, which meant the council had no need for you. The castaways lived in the underground, the sewers and abandoned mines, or they were killed. My parents were in a group that fought against the royal family, a vampire family who set the Golden Laws in place. My parents were killed when I was just three days old, and I was sent to the first boarding school, where I was raised by the teachers and nurses. I hated the royal family, since they were the reason the world was shit, and they were the reason I was an orphan.

I heard a branch snap behind me, and I turned to see my boyfriend Luca, creeping up behind me. He sat down on the small dock beside me, and I leaned over to place my head on his shoulder. He was sweet, and he was the only person who didn't care about what happened to my family. Everyone else thought I was destined to be another castaway.

"You alright?" Luca asked, and I just looked at him, nodding. I felt bad that I never told Luca when my thoughts were about my parents, or the past. I just wanted him to be happy, and he enjoyed the world we were living in now, even though I didn't understand it.

"I'm fine, let's get to school, we are gonna be late if we sit here much longer." I stood up brushed off my uniform, making sure I didn't have any dirt on myself. Luca and I split up, promising that he would walk me home when we heard a loud voice over the PA system.

"All students report to the auditorium, there is a big announcement." Headmistress Cordova's voice rang out from the PA system. I was so confused, and as Luca and I entered, the boys and girls were told to go to separate sides of the auditorium. I sat down beside a few younger girls that were whispering to each other softly. I played with a stray curl that fell from my hair that was in a messy bun. I was so confused, since we rarely had announcements. I heard a loud command, and everyone sank to their knees, and I immediately knew who was in the building. It was the queen, Lady Anastasia Ivy Dragonheart. She was a vampire, the vampire, who made all the rules, the law.

"Stand." I heard her stern, yet soft voice speaking, and we all stood up, looking at the stage with curiosity. The Queen was beautiful, with long blonde hair and bright blue eyes, her pale skin glowing in the soft light in the auditorium. She surveyed the crowd, and her eyes stopped on mine for just a moment, a small smile gracing her features. She looked towards the headmistress and spoke softly, before speaking into the microphone.

"I am here to give one of you an assignment. I know it is unusual for one of you to get your assignment before you are graduate, but rest assured that you will be able to finish your schooling in your new home." She turned back to the headmistress and they went through a small book, conversing as we all stood there watching. A few moments later, the headmistress read off some names and called a handful of people onto the stage with them.

"Evangeline Rayne Michaelson." She finished, and I walked to the stage slowly. I stood at the end of the line, beside a few of the most beautiful students, and the smartest. Queen Anastasia walked back and forth surveying us, and talking to the headmistress. I looked down, as we were told, and I felt them both stop in front of me.

"Look up child, I would like to see your eyes." Queen Anastasia commanded, and I looked into her eyes, which were like the ocean, deep blue. I felt my hands shaking at my side, and the headmistress spoke softly to the queen.

"She is smart, but I am not sure if you want her, both her parents died castaways, she is an orphan, from her first year in the world, your grace." She narrowed her eyes towards me. She hated me, claiming that I was a pain in the ass from the moment I was dropped at her doorstep when I was just a few months old. I had no love for the harsh, birdlike woman that raised me.

"She is perfect."Queen Anastasia stopped her, and she waved her hand, prompting the headmistress to clear the auditorium, sending everyone to class.
