A howl reverberated into the still darkness, Eros suddenly spun around, dread creeping in his bones, he had been running, sweat dripped down his forehead as panic began to seep through every inch of his body, a dull ache, one he couldn't seem to make go away, he watched and waited, until he couldn't handle the agony he watched any longer, until the screams turned to sobs, and sobs turned to growls, he had lost her again.
Once again he ruined her life, he had told her who he was yet she still had loved him so deeply, and now she would pay the price, for his curse was to watch as she destroyed herself, as she suffered by his hands, he had triggered the curse yet again, and now the moon would have her revenge, he was meant to stay away from the woman he was cursed for, and failed, and hundreds of years later he still failed, a love this strong would be their downfall for all eternity, and he would have to watch as each lifetime passed, as each moment he watched, she would never remember him.
Grabbing his bow and arrow, he waited in the darkness, like a hunter waiting for his prey, his silver bow glistened under the moons light, a noise stilled his breathing, drawing in a breath he waited, "Eros", her panicked voice startled him, hurriedly he got up and grabbed her, shielding him from the dangers he had been waiting for, "I told you to run and not turn back, there is danger around me, I'd never forgive myself if anything happens to you again, I cannot bare this much longer".
She took him in her embrace and held him there, "you will never lose me Eros, I will always come back for you, I love you, now and forever, we will survive this, but for now, let's keep moving okay, we're just sitting ducks here", slowly moving back into the darkness of the night, they ran, his bow and arrow slung behind his back as he held her hand into the night and fled, he had to keep her alive, he had to get her somewhere secluded, where no-one would find them, he didn't want anyone innocent to get hurt because of him. Running seemed to be all Eros did and as much as he hated it, it had become a necessity at this point in his life, stopping still in their tracks, they stared shocked at the four legged beast infront of them, Eros gulped as panic began to stir in his body, a wave of fear swept through the both of them, sprinting in the opposite direction, only to be surrounded by these beastly creatures.
"My father was amiable enough to give me wolfhounds to grace this beautiful night with, yet I found it more advantageous to use them to find you, I had warned you Eros, and yet every time you challenge me", met with a pair of grey eyes, he stilled in his tracks, still gripping onto his sweetheart's hands tightly, he pushed her gently behind him in a protective stance.
"Artemis, how'd you find us?", Eros glared directly into Artemis's eyes but it didn't seem to intimidate her at all, she merely laughed boisterously, shrugging him off as if it were just a game of cat and mouse.
"You fell in love with a woman who was never meant for you, you broke laws, disrespected your mother, disrespected me and you think I'd never find you, I intended the curse for you two to always find each other, so both of you can experience twice the pain", scoffing at her words, Eros merely stood anticipating her movements.
Eros couldn't believe a mother would be so cruel to her own kin, "by punishing me, you would damn your own blood to an eternity to be hunted by wolfhounds, for her to shift every full moon into a beast, is that what you would call revenge Artemis", his anger knew no bounds at her, for she had damned the woman he loved on a mere thought of mated wolves.
"Changing into what she was born for is not the curse Eros dear, changing to find her real mate is, she will damn you both, every century you find her, yet you lose her, tell me dear boy, is that not enough of a curse for you?", Artemis cocked her head to the side with a devilish grin on her face, waiting for Eros's answer.
"She will turn now that she has passed her twenty fifth birthday and you will watch her find her real soulmate, and I will be there, watching your suffering and hers, knowing she can't save you, no matter how much she would deny it", she smiled widely before spinning around, she signalled her hounds to attack, Eros pushed the girl behind him aside as the hound leaped towards him, a bite to his shoulder surged with such pain throughout his body, he screamed deafeningly into the quite black night.
"Eros!", the girl screamed boomingly, running towards him as he could only watch as the wolfhounds surrounded her, she was petrified yet she held her own will to survive strongly, something had come over her as her green eyes changed into something he dreaded ever since she turned twenty-five, blood red eyes replaced her beautiful green ones, her once red hair, a now striking silver colour tinted with the darkness of the night, her eyes glowed like the moon, her teeth sharpened dangerously like a threatened animal and yet even in this form he found her just as beautiful as her human form, she had turned and now it would be destined to lose her, she would eventually leave him.
Into the night an arrow pierced through one of the wolfhounds, squealing it took off into the night followed by arrows piercing the other wolfhounds, they had dispersed, looking towards the hooded figure, dressed in a cloak of pure black, Eros grunted in pain as the hooded figure reached towards him, placing her hands over the bite, a glow of light emanated from her hands and healed the wound. "Aceso, what are you doing here?", the woman offered her hand to Eros, helping him get up.
"All I've been doing for an eternity Eros is saving you, and every time I make a grand appearance you ask me that very same question, I am here for you and my dearest cousin, for she had saved my life and so I shall do the same", looking around to find the girl, they became startled, realising she had fled, she was mid-shift and that meant she wasn't in control.
"We have to find her Aceso, or she may take a life", dread swept over both their faces as they sprinted in search of the untamed wolf, "if she takes a life, she will perish", whispered Aceso, horror at the thought of losing her cousin, one whom she considered more like a sister." I won't let that happen, I have to find her", stopping in his tracks he used his bow to locate her, he had enchanted it to find her, which was why the colour was green, an unusual colour yet it was the colour of her eyes.
Not too far away lay a body sprawled on the ground, Eros and Aceso made their way towards it, realising it was her, she was unconscious but alive, yet the distinct stain of red coated her clothing, horror masked their faces as they realised she had taken a life, for a body, lifeless, lay a few feet away from her, Eros knew that she wasn't just unconscious now, she was dying, he stayed with her gazing at her face, a lone tear escaped his eyes, "Eros", with her final breath she whispered a goodbye.
"I will find you Marie, always", he gently whispered, as he kissed her cheeks goodbye. Aceso placed her hand on his shoulder, too distraught to utter any words, if only she had been earlier in her arrival, she would have saved them both.
"We have to leave Eros, before anyone sees us here, it would be catastrophic", kissing her cheek one last time he placed her head gently on the ground and ran with Aceso, stopping and turning around to look at her one last time.
"I promise somehow it will end", he said before taking off into the dark, treacherous night, yet the tears that escaped his eyes couldn't be stopped as he fled into dark night.
