Chapter 14 - THE LAWS

Hermione had been in a dilemma since the day Harry informed her about him having to marry more than one girl. Even though he explained it to her that he was soon going to be the head of two houses and thus requires to have two different families, she still could not wrap her mind around the subject. She felt that in this age and time polygamy was a taboo and that no self respecting women would ever allow for her man to have another family.

After asking Harry to leave until she was ready to speak to him again, she spent the next week studying up the customs and norms that are being followed by the wizarding world. She could not find much information in the regular books and thus decided to ask for the help of the creature Harry had called minnie. Harry had not informed much about her but had told her that she would respond to her name but to be mindful of her surroundings while doing so.

She locked her room and then called out minnie in a very loud voice as she was not sure whether the creature or the houself, as he had referred to it as, would respond to a small voice. Much to her surprise the creature appeared in front of her in an instant and startled her into tumbling back on her bed. She then asked the creature for books on wizarding customs and etiquettes, the creature popped into the wind once more and returned back after a few minutes carrying a pile of books. Hermione thanked her and she once again returned back.

After reading about the customs of the wizarding world Hermione understood the dilemma Harry faced and even if he was unwilling he now had the duty to carry on his house lines as the last male heir. Though saddened she quickly steeled her mind but decided not to speak to harry till she completed memorising of the wizarding laws as she also understood that though harry now had a status in the wizarding community, he was alone.

A lone eleven year kid in a whole new society with immense status was just like a neon light in a dark night, hard to miss even with eyes closed. She finally understood why Harry was so adamant on her knowing the laws before they go to the wizarding world. She was also happy knowing that he was so trusting towards her even though they met just a few weeks ago. She had already finished her studies of the muggle school in the vacations and had planned to read ahead but upon knowing that there was a whole new world waiting for her she dropped the plan and focused all her time for the next few weeks on the laws.

The day she completed reading upon the laws she summoned minnie and asked for her to inform Harry that she was ready to meet him.

Harry had just completed his lessons for the day and headed to hermione's. He greeted her parents and explained that he was unable to come due to his studies. The Granger's had thought that Harry too, like others before him had left and was not ready to be friends with Hermione but when he explained it with such clear eyes they seemed to be relieved. hermione soon came back home and proceeded to her room with Harry in tow.

She asked harry to be truthful to her in everything he does going on ahead and that she would also try her best to help her along the way. Harry seemed happy and nodded away. She informed him that she has been through the rules and there were only three major ones that they had to be careful about upon first entering the magical world.

1] Every member of the magical world should be vaccinated for commonly known infections at the age of eleven to be eligible for any senior level job at the ministry or its affiliated organisations.

2] Every child at age eleven who does not have a magical background are to be registered with the ministry to confirm their status.

3] Any and every fights including a heir to a noble, most noble or most ancient noble families can be solved with the custom of the family with a higher status.

Hermione went on to explain that after reading countless books on wizarding history, the workings of ministry, employments in the magical world, and status of non magicals in the wizarding community she understood that due to lack of knowledge of the above laws most kids with muggle parents lose their chance for a stable employment and promotion upon being unable to fulfil them. Even if they were to complete the same procedures after a year at Hogwarts it was still considered as missing the deadline.

Hermione also told Harry that she plans to distribute a printout of these laws to all muggle born kids when they arrive at hogwarts, but harry refused and informed her that doing so in public without any status can lead to sanctions and charges as circulation of law by third party was regulated by the ministry. He informed her that these books were also gifted by the goblins and that we would not find it otherwise.

It seemed that Hermione had dropped the plan, at least for now. Harry then went on to tell her about his meeting with the Greengrass and him beginning his studies. Hermione also informed him that she would mostly try and finish at least the first year theory portion before she began at hogwarts as she would love to spend her time there in the unusually large library, as described by harry.

Harry then asked her to take some time off every day and pretend to her parents that she was going to play in the park with him so that they could visit a wizard who would teach them occlumency. Harry explained to her that in the wizarding world there were many that could potentially read someone's mind and that due to him having so many enemies he would need every protection that he could get and he would also like for her to be safe.

Sensing the concern, Hermione agreed and they proceeded downstairs where he bade the family farewell and returned back to the Dudley's. He did his night chores, washed up a bit and then proceeded to sleep.
