Chereads / The CEO, Mr Harris / Chapter 9 - Chapter 8

Chapter 9 - Chapter 8

Mila POV...

Waking up the next morning, it was like I had a hangover and all my foolish decisions of last night came flowing back in like a mighty flood hitting me right in the heart

What am I going to do, how would I face him now, " I cried to myself as I stood up walking over to the mirror

Goodness... I look terrible, " I said out loud but deep down, I knew it wasn't because I just woke up but it was also because of none other than

Mr Harris

Stepping into the shower, I took my time in there allowing the water to roll down my body, as the sounds zoned off every invading thought, leaving me calm and in a state of serenity

But then the realization soon dawned on me that I could not stay here forever I had to face my mistake, so I stepped out dreading every step I took

Dressing up... I took in a deep breath mentally preparing myself for what to come

Taking a step out of my room, I glared up at his door, staring at it so intensely, begging my feet to move, begging it to take me to the front of his door

I finally made a few strides to his door. Stopping immediately

With every voice in me screaming for me to turn back

"I can do this, Yes I can do this," I willed myself over and over again

Maybe he wouldn't remember what I said last night, " I thought again as I raised my hand to knock

But before I could the place a knock on his door, the door opened and out came him. Mr Harris

He was wearing a navy blue suit with little black stripes and a black tie to follow and as always he was looking so dashing

His hair was neatly parted to the side and his sliver grey eyes sparkled as the rays of morning sunshine hit it

Seeing me, there was a hint of a smile on his face and just for a brief second I thought maybe this man wasn't so bad after all

But as I spoke calling out his name, it was like the devil possessed him yet again as his lips formed into a nasty scowl

Miss Brown !" he called out as he put his hand in his pocket leaning over at the door post

The look in his eyes was so devouring and intense, as it trailed down my body feeding me with a feeling I didn't want to admit to as desire

A desire for my boss, Desire for Angel Harris

I wanted so desperately to respond but as always my mouth refuses to function, so I just stared at him so nervously not knowing what to do

Miss Brown... You should learn not to stare so freely at people," he let out moving closer to me, with me taking a shaky step back

So consumed with the raw emotion flowing through me I was so desperate to get rid of it, so I said

"Mr Harris, I'm sorry for last night", I moved back desperate to put some space between us

And in a swift moment, Mr Harris took a step back with his hands still in his pocket and an unreadable expression on his face

So what is my agenda for today Miss Brown, " he asked with an intimidating

ing look in his

Scrambling through the pages on my tablet, I looked up nervously say

Sir. you have 2 major meetings today," I said nervously fidgeting with the hem of my dress

Fine then, but first breakfast, " he said walking out immediately

We had breakfast, no it was more of him having breakfast and I was just standing there watching him

So when he was done, we took the car to our first appointment

The car ride was as silent as expected, as always none of us said a word to each other, so I picked up my phone chatting up Maya to tell her how my first day on this trip was going

Laughing and giggling at her silly comments, I could feel Mr Harris eyes on me endlessly, which made a simile come one my face so freely

" Goodness, Why was I smiling " I yelled to myself as I shook myself off my delusional state while stealing a glance or two from him

Soon enough the car came to a stop at a very magnificent building, looking out of the window was so captivated by the structure that I just couldn't stop gawking at it

So engrossed with the sight before me, as always I was so oblivious to all of Mr Harris call

Miss Brown... Miss Brown, " he called out to me

His voice instantly broke me out of my daydreaming as I hurried out of the car quickly

I'm so sorry Sir," I stepped out looking at him

But the look on his face wasn't his normal scowl, it was more of an amused look as his eyes sparkled just like the star

Seeing the look on his face throws me off balance for a bit, as I hopped back and forth on my leg nervously

Maybe he noticed his current demeanour, because he let out a soft cough, shaking the look off his face

Let's go to Miss Brown...." He let out but this time his voice didn't have its usually intimidating aura to it

Nodding my head, totally confused as to the changes in Mr Harris attitude, I trailed behind him so slowly, so as not to arouse the sleeping lion

The rest of the meeting went by smoothly, Mr Harris was such an amazing speaker, he commanded a lot of attention and won so many investors over in an instant

So after the event, a lot of investors, other CEO's and the media wanted so desperately to talk to him

Smiling and talking, Mr Harris spoke to several people, that I even lost count of them all, but one person caught my eye in particular or would I rather say

she caught my eyes

" A beautiful and elegantly dressed lady walked up to him giving him a tight hug as she held on to him smiling

A smile that churned a feeling deep within me, a feeling I didn't want to attempt to as jealousy

Watching so closely, I noticed how her red dress fitted her so perfectly and her black Christian Louboutin shoes hit the floor as she jumped to give him another hug

Her jet black hair flowed down to her back and her face

God, her Face... this lady is drop-dead gorgeous

But who the hell is she, " I asked myself as I downed my bottle of water, so wishing it was a glass of wine right now.

Moving much closer to get a better look, I soon heard Mr Harris say

Alexis Lynn," he said hugged her, the hug that made my breath hitch in my throat

I didn't know what came over me, but I took out my phone and did my own little research on her

And definitely, she wasn't hard to find, she was quite a famous businesswoman

Alexis Lynn, CEO of Lynn's enterprises, she took over the seat from her father Jacob Lynn when she was only 18 years and over the years she had grown the company even more

God Damn she is perfect, so perfect for Mr Harris, they were cut from the same cloth

I just stared at them talking and laughing for so long

They were perfect for each other

Soon after Mr Harris waved me over to his side

Alexis, meet my assistant, Miss Brown

She would give you all my details and I would be expecting to hear you soon," he said to her as he walked out almost immediately leaving me alone with her.

Mila's POV...

Waking up the next morning, it felt like I had a hangover, and all my foolish decisions from last night came rushing back, hitting me like a mighty flood straight to the heart.

What am I going to do? How will I face him now? I cried to myself as I stood up and walked over to the mirror.

"Goodness... I look terrible," I muttered aloud. But deep down, I knew it wasn't just because I had just woken up; it was also because of none other than... Mr. Harris.

Stepping into the shower, I took my time, letting the water roll down my body as the sound of it drowned out every invading thought. It left me feeling calm and serene.

But then, the realization dawned on me—I couldn't stay here forever. I had to face my mistake. So, I stepped out, dreading every step I took.

Dressing up, I took a deep breath, mentally preparing myself for what was to come.

As I stepped out of my room, I glanced up at his door, staring at it so intensely, willing my feet to move, begging them to take me in front of it.

I finally made a few strides toward his door but stopped immediately, every voice in me screaming to turn back.

"I can do this. Yes, I can do this," I willed myself over and over again.

Maybe he wouldn't remember what I said last night, I thought, raising my hand to knock.

But before I could, the door opened, and out came Mr. Harris.

He was wearing a navy blue suit with subtle black stripes and a black tie to match. As always, he looked so dashing. His hair was neatly parted to the side, and his silver-gray eyes sparkled as the morning sunlight hit them.

Seeing me, there was a hint of a smile on his face, and for just a brief second, I thought maybe this man wasn't so bad after all.

But as soon as I spoke, calling out his name, it was like the devil possessed him once more. His lips curled into a nasty scowl.

"Miss Brown!" he called out, slipping his hand into his pocket as he leaned against the doorframe.

The look in his eyes was devouring and intense as it trailed down my body, feeding me with a feeling I didn't want to admit—desire.

Desire for my boss. Desire for Angel Harris.

I wanted so desperately to respond, but as always, my mouth refused to function, so I just stood there, nervously staring at him, not knowing what to do.

"Miss Brown... You should learn not to stare so freely at people," he said, moving closer to me. I took a shaky step back.

Consumed by the raw emotion swirling inside me, I was desperate to rid myself of it. "Mr. Harris, I'm sorry for last night." I took a step back, trying to create some space between us.

In a swift motion, Mr. Harris stepped back as well, his hands still in his pockets, his face unreadable.

"So, what is my agenda for today, Miss Brown?" he asked, his voice carrying an intimidating edge.

Scrambling through the pages on my tablet, I nervously looked up and said, "Sir, you have two major meetings today."

"Fine then. But first, breakfast," he said, walking out immediately.

We had breakfast—or rather, he had breakfast while I just stood there, watching him.

When he was done, we took the car to our first appointment.

As expected, the car ride was silent. Neither of us said a word, so I picked up my phone and started chatting with Maya to tell her how my first day on this trip was going.

Laughing at her silly comments, I could feel Mr. Harris's eyes on me endlessly, which made a smile spread across my face so freely.

"Goodness, why am I smiling?" I muttered to myself, shaking off my delusional state while stealing a glance at him.

Soon enough, the car stopped at a magnificent building. Looking out the window, I was so captivated by the structure that I couldn't stop gawking at it.

So engrossed with the sight, I didn't even notice Mr. Harris calling my name.

"Miss Brown... Miss Brown!" he called out.

His voice instantly broke me from my daydream, and I hurried out of the car.

"I'm so sorry, Sir," I apologized, stepping out and glancing at him.

But the look on his face wasn't his usual scowl. It was more of an amused look, his eyes sparkling like stars.

Seeing the look on his face threw me off balance for a moment, and I nervously hopped from foot to foot.

Maybe he noticed his current demeanor, because he let out a soft cough, shaking the look off his face.

"Let's go, Miss Brown..." he said, but this time his voice lacked its usual intimidating tone.

Nodding, totally confused by the change in Mr. Harris's attitude, I trailed behind him slowly, trying not to disturb the sleeping lion.

The rest of the meeting went smoothly. Mr. Harris was such an amazing speaker, commanding attention and winning over so many investors in an instant.

After the event, several investors, CEOs, and members of the media wanted to speak with him.

Smiling and chatting, Mr. Harris talked to so many people that I lost count. But one person caught my eye in particular—or, should I say, she caught my attention.

A beautiful, elegantly dressed lady walked up to him, giving him a tight hug as she smiled.

A smile that stirred something deep within me—something I didn't want to acknowledge. Jealousy.

Watching closely, I noticed how her red dress fit her perfectly, and how her black Christian Louboutin shoes hit the floor as she jumped to give him another hug.

Her jet-black hair flowed down her back, and her face...

God, her face... This lady was drop-dead gorgeous.

But who the hell is she? I asked myself, downing my bottle of water, wishing it were a glass of wine right now.

Moving closer for a better look, I heard Mr. Harris say, "Alexis Lynn."

He hugged her, and the hug made my breath catch in my throat.

I didn't know what came over me, but I took out my phone and did a little research on her.

It wasn't hard to find anything about her—she was quite famous. Alexis Lynn, CEO of Lynn Enterprises. She had taken over the company from her father, Jacob Lynn, when she was just 18. Over the years, she had grown the company even more.

God damn, she's perfect. Perfect for Mr. Harris. They're cut from the same cloth.

I just stared at them, talking and laughing for what seemed like forever.

They were perfect for each other.

Soon after, Mr. Harris waved me over to his side.

"Alexis, meet my assistant, Miss Brown. She'll give you all my details. I expect to hear from you soon," he said to her before walking out almost immediately, leaving me alone with her.

Forcing a smile to my face, I told her all she needed to know, desperately wanting to leave her side.

As if the universe heard my plea, Mr. Harris soon called out to me, signaling me over.

"Miss Brown, we're done here. Let's leave," he said, and we both started walking toward the car. Before long, we were on our way.

"Miss Brown, tell me, what's next on the agenda?" he asked. But it wasn't like his usual orders. This time, his voice was calm and low.

The sound of his voice took me by surprise, and I looked up at him in shock.

With a surprised look on my face, I told him what was next on the agenda, and he nodded in approval.

"Driver... to our next meeting," he said, and in no time, we arrived at the next venue.

This venue wasn't as uptight as the previous one. It had a cool, laid-back vibe, and I loved how relaxed I felt there.

As always, Mr. Harris walked away to prep for his speech, leaving me alone. I decided to head over to the bar to get myself a drink.

"A glass of fruit wine," I asked the bartender, and immediately, my drink was in my hand.

I was about to leave when I bumped into someone, spilling my drink all over them.

"I'm so sorry," I pleaded as I tried to clean up the mess I'd made, but I only made it worse.

"It's okay," I heard a deep masculine voice say.

Taken aback by his deep British accent, I slowly looked up to meet the hazel eyes of a handsome young man with blonde hair.

He looked at me and smiled, extending his hand for a handshake.

"Armando Rayas... at your service," he said, smirking.

Nervous as hell, I shook his hand, smiling sheepishly.

"Mila Brown..." I replied.

"Mila, nice name," he said, smiling widely, his eyes gleaming with amusement.

"Thank you so much, Mr. Rayas," I replied.

Hearing how I called his name made him laugh loudly.

"Just call me Armando, darling," he said in a calm voice.

"So tell me, what's a beautiful girl like you doing here in such a boring place?" he asked as he tried to clean the wine stain off his shirt.

"Working... that's all," I replied, feeling quite shy.

"Hmmm, okay," he smiled.

I was about to say something when I noticed Mr. Harris signaling me over. His face was frowning into his usual scowl.

"I'm so sorry, but I have to go," I said hurriedly, walking away from him before he could stop me.

As I walked over to Mr. Harris's side, I could feel the tension radiating from his body. He clenched his jaw, looking serious.

"Sir, your tablet," I said with shaky lips, wondering if I had done something wrong.

A moment later, Mr. Harris went up to make his speech. As he addressed the large crowd, his eyes lingered endlessly on me, which made me all the more nervous.

"Why did you run away from me like that?" I heard Armando's voice say from behind me, his breath on my skin sending a shiver down my spine.

My whole body was shaking as nerves slowly consumed me. I turned to look at Mr. Harris, but his eyes were fiery with rage. I couldn't quite place the feeling.

So, I turned around quickly, smiling back at Armando.

"No, I just had to work. That's my boss up there—Mr. Harris of Harris Construction," I smiled and said.

I could see a mocking look in his eyes when I mentioned Mr. Harris's name, which made me wonder if he knew him.

Armando was about to speak when I felt an all-too-familiar presence beside me. No one else had this scent but Mr. Harris.

Nervously, I looked up and saw the anger in his eyes as his body flared up. There was an unexplainable feeling in the air, making me even more nervous than I already was.

"Mr. Rayas..." Mr. Harris spat out his name in a distasteful manner, glaring at him with rage in his eyes. I grew even more confused by the second.

Armando didn't respond. He just stood there, grinning wildly, as if he knew exactly the effect he was having on Mr. Harris.

He then turned toward me, taking my hand and kissing it softly.

"It was nice to meet a pretty lady like you, Mila," he said, his eyes still lingering on Mr. Harris.

Before I could process what was happening, Mr. Harris took me by the hand and pulled me away, guiding me out of the venue.

"We're leaving here, Miss Brown," he said angrily, still pulling me along.

We soon entered the car, and in no time, we were on our way back to the hotel.

The car ride was silent, but it wasn't the usual silence I was used to. Something had changed.

We reached the hotel, made our way to the elevator, and went up to our rooms.

The tension between us could be cut with a knife, and I wondered why it felt so heavy.

When we reached my door and I was about to enter, a strong hand turned me around in an instant.

I looked up and saw it was Mr. Harris, as we stared at each other intensely.

I was about to say something—anything that could free me from the chains of his intense gaze—but before I could, he moved closer, backing me against the wall.

Looking up at him, trapped in the abyss of his intimidating yet intriguing aura, I desperately wanted to touch his face, to run my fingers through his perfect hair.

But a girl can only dream, right? I thought to myself.

The only thing I could feel was breathlessness as the look in his eyes did unimaginable things to me.

"Mr...." I wanted to say something, but I was cut off by Mr. Harris's voice.

"Did they not teach you never to talk to a stranger, Miss Brown?" he said with a blank expression.

"Stay away from Armando Rayas..." he muttered, walking away immediately.

Leaving me wondering...

What just happened?
