Chapter 5 - Episode 2: Guild Exam (1)

Twin Pathway—Jade Forest [10:21 AM].

In the forest nearby the town of Yumin, Fei excitedly skipped through the dirt paths whilst making her way towards an area that was infested with monsters. Meanwhile, from behind her, Damian casually walked at a steady pace.

"Mhm~" Humming out a tune, Fei continued to skip.

"...Fei, you should slow down," Damian sighed seeing that his sister was jumping up and down. "Aren't you tried?"

"Huh? Tired? What do you mean?" Hearing Damain's question, she stopped at her footsteps as she turned around, tilting her head. "I'm not that tired, it's still the morning y'know!"

"Right, it's still morning, but.... throughout it, you were running up and down rushing things here and there," Damian glared at Fei. "I'm surprised you still have the energy to spare before we go into any battles."

"Of course I've still got the energy to spare!" Fei excitedly nodded. "Just imagining that we'll soon become guild rankers... isn't it thrilling? We'll finally be able to follow dad's footsteps!"

"Yeah, yeah... anyway, you made sure you tuned your pocket, right?" he asked.

"Duh! I wouldn't carelessly mess today up!" she firmly said.

"But you nearly did though..."

"Cough... that's beside the point! Did YOU tune your pocket?" Letting out a cough, she quickly followed up with the same question.

"Long before you obviously," he shrugged. "I had to do something to pass the time while waiting for you right?"

"Hmph! Is that so?" She glared at Damian. "Well good for you!"

"Seriously? I'm just making sure you know," he helplessly said as he walked ahead. "Can't be too careful, right?"

"Hey! What are you implying?"

"That you might somehow accidentally blow things up... again..."

"Ahh! That was only that one time! I didn't know how to properly control mana that day... but now I do! Perfectly fine-tuned to my own comfort!" she said with pride.

"Right... totally believe you," he sarcastically said.

"You don't believe me at all!" she pouted. "Well doesn't matter, I'll just prove to you my amazing mana abilities alongside my amazing skills!"

"Hah, is that a challenge?"

"Yes!"

"Hmm, well bring it on. We'll see who handles mana well," he smirked. "Though, it's quite obvious that I'll win."

"What?! No, no! It's definitely me that will win!"

"Well first to find a monster and defeat it in the least amount of time taken will be the winner, deal?"

"Deal!" Without any time to waste, Fei swiftly rushed ahead.

"...sigh, this girl..." Helplessly sighing, Damian quickly made his way through the forest.

...

Within the forest of Yumin, a medium-sized monster, who seemed to be a walking tree walked aimlessly on the dirt path. From the bushes, hid a young brown-haired girl, who eyed on the monster.

"...there found one!" The young girl by the name of Fei, gripped onto her weapon, as she simultaneously leapt forward without hesitation. With her spearham in hand, she protruded it forward as she pierced the monster in front of her.

Just like the name of her weapon implied, the spearham was a spear and a hammer combined. The edge of the pole that she holds is a spearhead in which she uses to pierce her targets.

Meanwhile, below the spearhead was a blunt part sticking out from the right side of the pole, curved into a circle, this was the hammer part that she uses to smack her enemies away, just like in this situation.

"Take this!" With all her strength, she quickly smacked the monster over towards a tree. Moments later she vaulted over to the monster with her weapon.

The moment she neared the wood-like tree monster in front of her, a gush of wind blew around her spearham. This was due to the effects of mana which she used, an energy in which embodies one's soul. Through the help of her pocket device, it served as a medium for an entity to use their inner magic, thus allowing one to channel mana.

...

While Fei fought with the monster, from a few distances away, a black-haired man silently made his way towards two monsters, similarly to the ones that Fei was fighting.

Without any delay, the man, Damian, gripped onto his twin-blade swords as he sent a cross arc over to them. Following up with the attack, Damian's eyes glowed a bright yellow hue as he activated his mana, quickly enhancing his sight, which allowed him to take an efficient route to end the monster.

Simultaneously, Fei who had raised her weapon high up into the air, quickly sent it flying over towards the monster, whist Damian who rushed forward towards the two enemies in front of him, swiftly sliced through them. In the end, the monsters that they fought respectively, turned into grey ash almost at the same time.

"...phew! I did it!" Fei cheered as she turned to Damian. "It looks like I-" The moment she turned to Damian, her cheeriness turned to a frown as she saw that Damian had also finished up on his side.

"What?" Noticing that Fei had a frown on her face, he let out a chuckle. "You angry at the fact I beat you?"

"No! I clearly beat you!" she glared at Damian.

"Hmm, really? I don't see you fighting two monsters at the same time?"

"Argh! You!" she pouted. "Had I known! I would've looked for another monster to fight."

"Haha, it looks like it's my win."

"No, no! Since it's not fair that you fought two monsters simultaneously, we'll only count the monster that you killed firstly!" Fei reasoned. "So with that, I clearly won since I killed the woolly much faster than you did!"

"Really?" he raised his brow. "Pretty sure I killed it much faster than you. What made you so sure that you were faster?"

"Well, by the time I came to look at you, you were just about to finish up! So... in that sense, I won a few seconds faster!" She joyfully announced.

"Hah... you," Damian blankly stared at Fei.

"Haha, I won, yes!" Jumping for joy, she suddenly heard certain sounds coming from the bushes. "...huh?"

Suddenly, monsters of different looks and sizes jumped out of the bushes, quickly pouncing over to Fei and Damian who were in the encirclement from the monsters.

"Argh! You annoying monsters!" Seeing the sight of monsters interrupting her victory, Fei turned to glance at Damian as they nodded. Gripping onto their weapons, they rushed forward.
