Chapter 8 - Monster Soul

Mira was finally full after 3 more trays of food. Luckily, according to Mira, the sweets she made seemed to retain the same nutritional value as the actual food converted, thus she was technically still eating healthy.

Once the girls in the group heard this Mira felt a chill down her spine after noticing the strange gleam in all of their eyes. She could certainly understand where they were coming from, but it didn't make it any less scary.

After she finished, they made her undergo a few more tests before they could clear her to go home. Dr. Tsubasa wanted to keep her an extra day or two for watching, but with Mira understanding and giving details of her quirk, there wasn't much reason to anymore.

Mira's quirk, 'Monster Soul' as she called it, is basically the same as her siblings' quirk with a few differences. First, unlike her two siblings, she can't partially transform. She can only do complete transformations. Finally, unlike her two siblings, she's able to use the abilities of other transformations with her soul form to a lesser effect. Which means if she unlocks a transformation that has 10x strength, in her soul form, now dubbed 'Majin Form', she might be able to access 5x strength at most. This is because that body isn't exactly suited for the abilities from that race thus isn't able to bring out the full potential of their abilities. For now, she can only use 4 extra abilities with her Majin form, but it might increase with training.

That said, her Majin form also comes with abilities of its own, such as her [Hungry Beam] and [Elasticity]. It's only minor, but she's really stretchy and bendy in her current form, not enough to turn her body completely 360 degrees, but maybe a full 180 isn't much of an issue right now. She's also pretty sure that like the rest of her abilities in this form, it can be trained to a higher degree. She has a bit of [Regeneration] as well, but it too isn't very strong at the moment.

Her [Hungry Beam] is her main ability in this form. She can turn just about anything into whatever type of food she wants! That doesn't actually change what they're made of through. So even if she turns a chair into chocolate, she'd still be eating a chair which might cause digestive problems. Things with sentience have a time limit, and with enough willpower, they can cancel the transformation on their own.

She can also tell it would be a very, very, VERY bad idea to actually eat a transformed person. She isn't sure why, but every fiber of her being practically begged her not to do it when the thought first rolled around. That same feeling also warned her to never allow herself to get too hungry.

She thought back to the time before she met the mysterious lady. She was too preoccupied at the time to notice, but she realized she had felt incredibly hungry then too. She wondered if going hungry meant forgetting everything she knew until she was full again? It seemed like more to it than that, but she didn't want to find out. Which is why she took a bite of the cookie that just floated over to her mouth, another side bonus of [Hungry Beam].

Anything that she transformed, she can manipulate with limited telekinesis. She isn't sure of the range, but she doesn't think it's very far. She can fire her beam from her fingers or her tail. Her fingers fire faster while her tail fires further.

The last gift with this form was one she kept parts of a secret for now. Her intelligence had skyrocketed! She could think faster than she ever had before, to the point it felt like she could slow her perception of time. Her cognitive abilities had been improved. She was ambidextrous now and felt like she could draw anything she set her mind to with ease. Her memory had also been enhanced, she could remember just about everything she's ever seen before and recall it with but a thought.

She could actually remember the day she was born. She could actually see her mother's face in her memories. She could remember the beautiful smile she gave when she held her for the first time. It was enough to make her cry, and thus she had to explain exactly what was wrong to her siblings. Leaving the small family in a melancholic mood for a few minutes.

Elfman had always hated that they never had a single picture of their mother to show Mira when she got older. They were too poor back then to afford a camera of any kind and once he had made money; it wasn't the first thing to cross his mind back then. While she was sick, he was too beside himself with worry every day to have such consideration. The first time Mira had asked what she looked like was one of the days he hated himself the most and vowed to always try not to disappoint her or Lisa.

Lisa could still remember their mother, but she was still rather young herself and thus the memory was fading a bit. Whenever she thought about it she'd go into mini panic attacks and start doing things to cope. She did not want to forget her mother, thus she was beyond happy when Mira promised to draw a few pictures of her once they returned home.

This wouldn't be the only thing Mira did when she got home either. The last part of her quirk she had told no one out of caution was the information still pouring into her brain. Her head was filled with knowledge so advance she'd be able to single-handedly advance the world forward several hundred years.

She wanted time to sort through it all and come up with a plan. She wanted to help her siblings as much as she could and wanted to see if she could use anything in her head to help them financially. One idea had already passed through her mind, and it was surprisingly something she had already been working on in her room. She felt it was a good start with little repercussions to her family and thus resolved herself to bring it up with her brother in a few days.

Seeing as they had cleared her from the hospital, only being told to check back in once a month for the next year or so just to be absolutely sure, the group left to go celebrate both Mira and Shoto's quirk awakening.

Shoto's dad had left after talking with her brother and the tired-looking man she met today. Apparently, he was another pro hero that came by to help her with her condition earlier. She thanked the man and even offered him a cookie made out of some leftover hospital food. He seemed to like it, so she was happy.

He also tried to leave after everything was over with, but her brother had practically dragged him along with them to go celebrate. He seemed reluctant but conceded after she gave him her certified puppy dog eyes. She's yet to meet a foe they haven't worked on yet!

Mira learned his name was Eraser Head, and he just became a pro hero last year. She, like most girls her age, really looked up to heroes, so she ended up asking a bunch of questions on the way to the restaurant. She only stopped questioning him after they arrived and because Elfman looked a little jealous. It wasn't her fault; she doesn't get to meet many pro heroes, seeing as she doesn't leave the house often.

She starts school in a few more months so she doesn't really have a reason to leave aside from staying with the Todoroki's while Lisa is in school.

Speaking of Todoroki, Shoto finally had a chance to check on Mira once Endeavor left their presence, something Aizawa took notice of but didn't think much about at the moment. The kid practically seemed like a different person once the man left, but he figured even for his own kid, he's a hard man to be around.

Shoto also revealed her quirk to everyone. She called it 'Half-Hot, Half-Cold'. It perfectly combined both of her parents' quirks and made up for the downsides of each. The moment they identified it was a moment she'd likely never forget, for it was the first time in her life she had seen her father smile. It looked kind of creepy though…

Shoto wanted to be a hero in the future, even without her father's insistence, so she was glad she had such a versatile quirk. She was just as glad that Mira had one as well for various reasons. She was actually hoping Mira would be a hero so they could team up together, but she didn't know if Mira would want to or not.

Shoto knew how much Mira admired her siblings, and she had also told her that Lisa planned to become a hero as well. Shoto was almost sure Mira would want to team up with her siblings, so she didn't place much hope in her desire. She knew she would likely have to inherit her father's agency, thus didn't see things working out.

Aizawa thought the both of them had potential to become top heroes in the future if they actually put in the effort. They would get nowhere with just a powerful quirk.

Rei was glad Shoto had a way to deal with the downside to her quirk. She knew Shoto wanted to be a hero in the future, and she wanted to do everything she could to support her. She had already seen what a family broken by ambition looks like. The moment the small family of 3 all shed tears thinking about the mother, none of them could see any more. She never wanted her children to experience the same thing. She was determined to put her foot down more often, starting now. She would not allow her husband's ambition to ruin their lives more than it already had.

Little did she know she wasn't the only one with similar thoughts at the time. After all, there were others present watching that same scene. Perhaps there would not be an immediate change, but the seeds had already been sown.

Elfman was just happy that both of his sisters had gotten a powerful quirk and could become heroes with him if they wanted. He'd still respect their wishes, but he was determined to help them both train their quirks now that Lisa was finally showing some interest in doing so.

Lisa was also happy for Mira, all her previous worries vanishing as she watched her little sister talk animatedly with her best friend about their quirks. There was still one question that needed to be answered, however, and Lisa figured now was the best time, seeing as Mira was in the middle of showing off again.

"Mira-chan, is there a reason you called yours 'Monster Soul'? You don't look very scary, you know?" Lisa said with a bit of a giggle, wondering what her sister's reasoning was. She was actually worried Mira saw herself as a monster and wanted to suggest a different name since she knew kids could be very mean at times. Just having a quirk with the name monster in it might cause some to bully her.

"Un! It's because I can only take over monsters!" Mira said rather proudly while puffing her nonexistent chest out.

Lisa was surprised by her answer and wondered for a second if she were just being childish, but quickly discarded that thought, remembering how intelligent her sister was. If she said it like that, then she probably meant it. Which begged the question.

"Well, where are you supposed to find monsters to take over then?" She asked after a second, only to be returned with complete silence. Lisa could swear she could see the gears turning in Mira's head while she tried to come up with an answer. The only reply she got, however, was

"Huh?"
