Chapter 58 - The Change of Tide (1)

She then stepped on the Elder's scale with her feet and the black ball sent three weapons at once, causing the ball to decrease in size.

As if she was a spider woman running on the side of a building, she sprint towards the black ball and the three black weapons.

Which is a pinch fork, an axe and a pickaxe coming at her with speed faster than missiles.

As she saw these weapons, Kino couldn't help but ask herself, is the black ball seeing me as if I'm a witch?

Maybe though, because these weapons are often used by angry mobs when hunting witches but Kino muttered to herself, 'mostly vampires though.'

The weapons are indeed fast but Kino's eyes got used to it already, it took a short amount of time by the way.

She easily dodged these weapons, either by moving her body to the side, do a flip forward and use her aura to parry the last attack, which is the axe.

The latter just charge head on without doing any maneuver while the two weapons do a simple maneuver, however, it doesn't make them less deadly.

If these weapons were used against ordinary people or maybe players and even NPCs whose levels are  below her, they either got fatal injuries and the worst case scenario would be death.

With three weapons passed her, she keeps sprinting up. Her hair was swayed here and there.

Every step she takes needs an aura energy circulate right below her feet so that her feet could stick on the Elder's scale.

Her aura energy right now is about sixty five percent. Kino wasn't sure why it decreased that much and it was even beyond her calculation.

It seems making her aura purer than usual is one factor that decreases her aura the most and adding one thing, which is that moment when she fought the darkness inside the black sword, she used many amounts of aura energy.

Put aside all of that, the three weapons turned their direction and flew towards her. The latter could feel them by using her Aura Detection.

Although the technique couldn't be used to detect any non-living things, it could be used if they are controlled by a person or in this case, a curse. Kino is about to dodge these attacks but then, out of the blue, the Elder's body shakes greaty.

It ruins her balance and she had no choice but to halt her pace, if not she could fall! Noticing that their target stopped running, this was a chance for the three weapons!

Therefore, without wasting much time, they increased their speed.

The one who is leading the weapons is the pinch fork while the axe and the pickaxe right behind it, on its left and right to be exact.

These weapons, if one sees it from the ground, they're flying straight up.

The Elder's body didn't stop shaking, instead, it got even worse. Kino who had no idea what's going on subconsciously ignored the weapons behind her and shifted its gaze to the black ball.

The latter's size is huge and is twitching, no, upon closer look, it's beating as if a heart is pumping blood.

Seeing this sight, cold sweat flows down on her cheek.

"What is going? Why does it become large all of the sudden? It can't be that… it's too late." She said to herself with uncertainty and hope what she just saw was a mistake but she threw that thought to the nearest trash bin in her mind by shaked her head off.

"No, it's not. The curse is still in its first stage. It seems my guess is correct, that thing wants to control the Elder." She paused as she pinched her chin.

"But why does it suddenly become big? It was small a moment ago, is it possible that the curse did it to trick me? But I never knew this type of curse has intelligence."

Put aside the matter for later. Kino then remembered that the curse had three stages.

First stage, setting up a foundation by absorbing the host's energy. You may think that this sounds like something a parasite would do but it is though, this curse is very similar to a parasite.

By absorbing something inside the Elder's body, it will get stronger and ferocious. Unlike parasites, however, who could reproduce or multiply, this thing couldn't.

Which is to be expected considering this thing is a curse, an ancient curse.

The second and third stage is rather long to explain but in brief, the second stage is when the curse is inside the Elder's body, whether in muscle tissue, cells, blood, nerve system, basically anywhere inside the Elder's body except the brain.

Although except the brain, the curse could still control the Elder's body and the Elder could only fight against the black ball with its will power. In this state, is the moment when the Elder went berserk.

Third stage is when the curse could control the Elder's brain and its next goal would become one with the Elder, it'll remove the Elder's consciousness or in other words, the Elder would die.

Thankfully, the third stage required a lot of time but for the second stage, Kino must stop the curse from reaching that stage. That thing just does whatever it wants.

Which somehow makes her pissed and annoyed at the same time.

At this point, as if reading her mind. A deep and ancient voice reverberated in the air.

"Heh, a little girl like you can't stop me. I'm an ancient curse that lives in this old fellow's body for many more years without getting noticed, what can a little girl like you could do exactly? Even this body couldn't do much despite almost becoming an immortal."

Surprised for a moment and said to herself, 'it talked!'

Though, her surprise was soon replaced by anger.

She, a prodigy that appears 1 in 6,000 years was underestimated by a mere curse that couldn't even do anything if it's not for absorbing something inside the Elder's body.

'Let's wrap up this real quick,' she said to herself and the air arround her changed. The curse could even felt it despite their distance is far, it was heavy and if the curse had a body, it would feel stifling sensation on its chest.
