Chapter 2 - Prologue

PROLOGUE

MONDAY

You never know how much someone or something means to you until it's too late. At least, that's what I had learnt since my encounter with him.

I won't describe nor will I introduce who I am because that's too lame. One thing you should know though, is that you should never go out on Monday nights. Not alone.

Never alone.

"Would you stop nagging already? I'm almost home."

I complained as my mother scolded me for staying out late at night, a Monday night, at that. I was out to do my project with Jae Hoon, and unfortunately we slacked off. We ended up losing track of time, sadly, and here I was, rushing to get back home.

"I've told you so many times, don't stay out late on Monday nights," my mother said exasperatedly into the phone. I mentally rolled my eyes as I walked on. "Haven't you heard about the serial killer going around!?"

Typical mother. This serial killer she's mentioning must be from one of those fake Facebook posts she heard from the internet. I pinched the bridge of my nose, trying to hold in my annoyance before I lash out at her 'overdramatic' nagging.

"Serial killer?" I repeated, scratching my head. "You're not telling me that because you want to scare me right?"

"Just come home quickly!" She snapped as she ended the call. Shaking my head, I stuffed my phone into the pocket.

"Ugh, why can't my mom be like those caring mothers in k-dramas?" I muttered to myself. "All she does is nag me all day long."

Rustle...Rustle...

A strange noise then sounded as soon as I said that. I turned around and saw nothing. No one. Only a lone empty plastic bag sweeping by the sideway. The chilly wind blew harder and I immediately bundled myself more with my favorite scarf. Must be some stray dog.

"Goodness, that scared me." I shuddered, staring at the bushes where the sound came from. As I began to walk again, I heard the same strange noise again.

Rustle...Rustle...

My heart began to pound frantically. What the hell was that? I did the same, turning around and again, I saw nothing. No one. I wanted to believe that it was some kind of sick prank, but now I'm starting to believe that my mother wasn't being overdramatic about the serial killer.

If only I had heard her out before leaving the house.

Frightened, from the small strange noises that I've been hearing, the best course of action is to obviously get away from this walkway that I frequent due to it being a shortcut to my house. Stat.

I quickened my pace, hoping that the noise that something or someone is making is all part of my imagination caused by recent stress. However, the rustling noise began to get louder. It became my cue to turn my usual brisk walk into a run.

I quickly dashed with all my might. I was starting to get the feeling of someone following me. Unfortunately, I did not managed to properly look ahead of the walkway and I accidentally stepped on a rotten banana peel.

"Fuck!" I cursed as I tripped and fell like an idiot. Out of all the times to slip and fall, this was simply bad timing. I looked back to check if that someone was still following me. That was when I saw a figure, with long hair and hands dripping with blood.

The figure moved closer. Their features resembled a woman. She stared at me into the eyes and I could notice the bruises all over her face. How? Why? Those were the terms that immediately popped into my head.

"What the heck-"

"Please save me," She pleaded, sobbing. I heard another set of footsteps not far away as I heard a whistle. "Please don't leave me alone."

I was about to get up when I felt a pain in my ankle. I groaned softly.

To save her, or not?

Save her.

As I tried to limp towards her, a dark figure started to tower over me. I looked up and gasped, covering my mouth to prevent anymore gasps coming out. The person smirks as he pulled the bleeding girl by the hair and pulled her up.

"Looks like you're gonna have to come with me."

He then raised something at me as he slammed it down at me and everything went black.

And that was how my horrific experience with the Murder Alarm killer started.
