Chapter 37 - He is the antidote

At Fine art department of Pioneer University.

After the unsettling incident yesterday, Zhang Fei felt a lingering anxiety. However, much to her surprise, she didn't encounter Ying Yue and her clingy friends today, allowing her to breathe a sigh of relief.

The day unfolded quietly, with an air of calmness that wrapped around her like a comforting blanket. Once her lecture concluded, she made her way to the library, eager to indulge in her reading.

She chose a secluded table in the back corner, deliberately positioning herself away from prying eyes. As she settled into her chair, lost in the pages of her book, the door swung open, and in walked Xiao Nai, cradling a steaming cup of hot chocolate in his hands.

He scanned the room until his gaze landed on Zhang Fei, and his eyes sparkled with joy. "Hey, Feifei, how's it going?" he called out cheerfully. Zhang Fei offered him a pointed glare, her brow furrowing in annoyance. "Don't disturb me," she grumbled, trying to return to her reading. Respecting her wish, Xiao Nai fell silent but soon pulled up a chair right across from her.

He couldn't help but admire her, his eyes lingering on her focused expression. "Why are you staring at me, you weirdo? Let's go," she snapped, breaking the silence with a playful irritation. A small smile tugged at her lips, despite her tone, and they soon departed the library, making their way home together.

...

At Li Rong's Mansion.

Qing Yuan was in a state of turmoil, pacing anxiously in his room. He muttered to himself, "How am I going to face her? How, how?" His mind raced with thoughts of what lay ahead.

Han Qilu, exhausted from watching his friend's restless behavior, finally erupted, "Bro, you're giving me a headache! Can you please just relax for a moment?" Qing Yuan shot him a sharp glare, frustration clear in his eyes. "Why are you even here? Go home and leave me alone," he snapped, wishing for some peace.

Sensing Qing Yuan's distress, Han Qilu softened. He stepped closer, placing a reassuring hand on Qing Yuan's shoulder. "Listen, why don't you just stay in your room today? Tell Li Rong that you have a test and you're busy preparing for it." Qing Yuan paused, pondering the suggestion. It struck him as a clever excuse, and he nodded in agreement, grateful for his friend's support.

At Sparkle Entertainment.

The sound of fingers typing briskly on a keyboard filled Li Rong's office as she immersed herself in her work. Yet, amidst the flurry of deadlines and projects, a thought suddenly pierced through her concentration, pulling her into a moment of introspection. "Will he help me again like he did yesterday?"

She closed her eyes, recalling the warmth of his embrace, The way it enveloped her like a comforting blanket, radiating heat that seemed to seep into her very soul, sending shivers of life coursing through her veins. "It was so soothing, so incredibly real and warm" With a soft sigh, she leaned back in her chair, her gaze drifting to the window as she contemplated what the future might hold. "I'm sure he won't repeat the same gesture again. After all, I am a sinner, burdened by my past, and he is the antidote I crave, yet he never seems willing to reach out and treat my wounds" The weight of her thoughts hung in the air, punctuated by the quiet hum of the office around her.
