Chapter 74 - Carnation 72

Third Person

Paris, France: Paris Police Department

The media was the only noise heard outside of the police department. Apparently, the information given by Investigator Easton Broshe was not enough to satisfy the thirst of story-making companies. The police department made all the buffs security to handle it while they talked about the case of the son of Dèmise Heinz.

But the Investigators and lawyers were left to wait in the discussion room while the famous Inspector talked on the phone with someone.

"She's awake?" Easton asked before throwing out the cigarette he just lit to induce stress, "Then, don't let her know what happened with her boyfriend!"

The other line sounded frazzled that he already suspected that they failed to stop the girl from discovering the truth about her lover. He wasn't expecting them to, it was all over the news and internet internationally.

"Don't let anyone in! Especially if you see a black-haired girl, wearing a dress and requesting to visit a prisoner," Easton commanded one errand boy to deliver the message to the security. He also sent some security at the back door and the fire exit. All of them just followed without knowing the reason for the bother.

"I've barricaded all entrances," The proud Easton Broshe spoke to the phone, "Just pick her up at the exit so, she would not make any scene here. We're bu—"

He was stopped by Klavier interfering, saying that he should count up to five minutes, and then he immediately ended the call before the Investigator could even comprehend the algorithm behind it.

"What do you mean by count?" Easton asked while counting the five minutes in his head.

The only things he could think of about the countdown were fireworks, games, bombs, and the seconds before he orgasm in the bed with a hooker.

Bomb—

"Bomb!" he screamed and it called the attention of all the staff. The media drove off with the 30-second warning. All the staff tried to locate the bomb, the first cell they suspected is Saccharide's, but there wasn't any.

Bathrooms—

Control room—

Cafeteria—

First floor Cells—

Second-floor Cells—

Clinic—

Play Court—

They didn't find anything besides a few snuck weapons, cigarettes, and pornographic material.

The officers informed the Investigator about not having to find the bomb and it sparked a crazy spree inside so the usually calm male, Easton started flipping the tables and furniture to find a hint of the bomb but there wasn't anything. They all panicked, the prisoners were not cooperating with the relocation. With only a minute left in the clock, someone texted him. Easton almost threw his phone in the toilet and flush it when he read Klavier's text.

"Did you know that microwaving a burrito only takes 4 minutes?" He read while his eyes squinted and hands shaking, "I'm sorry Raine told us that you're a human timer. Bye!"

Sighing, Easton took the stool that he just kicked and sat on it. One lawyer comforted him as they fixed the mess and returned the other prisoners to their cells. At least, they got rid of the raveling media and they don't have to send many backups outside just to guard.

That's when he realized something more serious than the bomb news—

Someone appeared in front of him, he looked up and saw a policewoman with long straight black hair wearing a police cap, the woman looked serious before asking, "Where is he?"

"Son of a bitch!" Easton stood up and walked past the woman in frustration.

The bomb was just a diversion so, they'll remove the security outside the entrances and exits. Even with the secured defense, she'll still get in with her dressing up as a female cop. The guards would let her in because she doesn't match the description.

Raine held his arms and with pleading eyes, she begged, "Please—please consider and investigate again!"

Easton turned to her, he was amazed that this fragile being could fool someone like him. Keeping his face stern, he threatened to sue, "You know I could get you in prison with your friends because of a Hoax Bomb Threat!"

"We didn't fake a bomb threat," Raine bravely explained, "You're the one who assumed that it was a bomb threat. Even of your position, they could press charges at you..."

She wasn't going to risk something without properly planning it, "Klavier simply said to count 5 minutes, there's no bomb in his sentence. You can't file a report against us," she expertly explained, her eyes looking shard while doing so.

Easton gave up and made her sit on a stool while he was comfy on the soft couch, "Look, sweetie... Heinz already turned himself in, he admitted to the 3 serial killings."

"I know he wasn't the one who did those. Those were planned! We are being sabotaged by his Father!" The black-haired female fiddled her fingers.

The older one pulled out pictures from a folder and showed it to her before asking, "Do you know him?"

Raine sat still and looked down at the pictures. She looked horrified and disgusted by the colored piece of film. How could she forget the bouncer who pissed Saccharide off by telling her she was in an outfit, undeserving of respect from fellow visitors.

Easton finally put the crime shots inside the folder again, witnessing that the girl was unable to answer with the gruesome pictures insight, "He was the guard you got into a fight yesternight at the Jardin d'Eden," he stated in her place, "You probably don't remember, but you saw his body at your garden this morning and that's the reason why you passed out."

"The same method was used to kill the victim and a staff saw a boy wearing a black coat that matches your boyfriend's outfit, carrying a suspicious bag— that's kind of dumb of a security, but still—" Easton explained.

Raine as baffling and believable as it was, shook her head and defended Saccharide as much as she could, "I was with him all night. He never left my side—"

"What do you know? Your doctor said, you were given sleeping pills after your wounds were treated," Easton said that made the female flustered.

He was right and after that time in the hotel, she woke up in bed with Saccharide, only wearing his black coat at his condominium. Still persistent, Raine looked at him with scrunched up eyebrows and muttered, "I stand by my statement!"

Easton admired the persistence, but he doesn't have time to play snakes and ladders with this girl. Although, she did give him quite a game using the countdown scheme, "That stand can't fight anything. His statement admitting he did the crime was powerful in court, no matter how you deny it," he explained, "And even if your statement did get sympathy, the lawyer would disprove it as to establish it as a bias claim..."

"He was unstable! He doesn't know what he was doing!" defended Raine on the verge of crying.

"Until that matter was proven by his doctor, then he has to stay here for three days before you could pay the bail," Easton gave her his notes, hoping it could lessen the worry, "The families of the victims are here, they all filed a case against him. As the law dictates, you know what happens next..."

Losing hope with Saccharide's case, she stood and ran inside the interrogation room where the families of the victims were sitting. Easton went after her, but after seeing her in tears, he just closed his eyes and let her arm go.

"Hey— hey little girl! What are you doing?" The guard of the interrogation room was perplexed when a girl passed him to get inside. Pulling her out of the room would have been easy if it wasn't for Easton stating that he allowed her.

Before leaving the keys on the Investigator's hand, the guard did a salute sign. Easton watched through the glass and was shocked when the girl removed her police costume, revealing her gravel-covered dress from earlier. After that, the girl kneeled in front of the family members and it didn't surprise him at all.

It was exactly what he thought she would do.

"I'm sorry..."

It was the only thing she could offer.

"I'm very sorry..."

It was the only word she could think of as the people with her in the room looked down at her confusedly as they did not know what she meant. The janitor's wife told her to stand up for she did not want to see a young girl apologizing for what the cold-blooded had done.

"It was his time. God already wanted to see him," the old wife stroked her hair as Raine cried, her tears dripping on the floor while her whimpers echoed, "My husband deserved to rest, he was always cleaning houses and buildings for me..."

The wife of the bouncer and the sibling of the skinny police officer just stared at the two as they shared a few heart-melting moments.

"I know even if I grovel at your feet and lick the sole of your shoes. You won't be able to forgive him," Raine kept herself down on the floor, but she sat up not long after and beamed a smile at them.

She thanked them sincerely, they don't fully know what they should respond to the girl, but they just smiled back at her and let Raine make her leave.

"So this is the level you're stooping to just to save him?" Easton closed the doors and escorted the girl to the lobby, "I am still investigating the case of the fire. There are still some odds left that I would find something. Actually, the odds is zero over a hundred, but who knows—"

"Thank you. I must take my leave..." Raine smiled and considered his empathy, but she has something to do.

"Do you want to see him?" offered Easton when she made a few steps towards the door, "Since you took this matter pretty good, I could let you sneak past the visiting time..."

"Not now. I'll see him after he was out of those bars," she stated before leaving the doors.

Easton watched over her as she crossed the street, 'My brother's right she is pretty and pretty odd...' he thought before shrugging his shoulders.
