Chapter 49 - Carnation 47

Raine Aksenov

Paris, France: 4th Street Cemetery

4:32 P.M.

I turned around and saw him smiling. He spread out his arms to permit me to hug him. His grey hair sides with the wind direction, he cried like me but his pale cheeks reddened as the tears dried up.

It was the sight I was hoping to see after I revealed my secret to him but instead—

I was greeted by the sight of tall grasses, waving at me like people saying ' farewell!'

"I still love you, you creepy bitch!" he chuckled and motioned me to kiss him.

Those were the words I expected from him but instead— the winds whistled and the silence collided with my rapid beating heart.

"I don't regret doing this, Mom. I hope you didn't regret having me. But I know you did some when in your life. It was raining when you had me, right?" I spoke and closed my eyes, "It was your tears that fell not the water from the sky. Such a wholesome name..."

Saccharide walked away. It was not the move I was expecting for him to take but I hoped for him to do that. Turning to the tall grasses behind me, I smiled and caged myself inside that itchy spacing between the tall grasses.

I hummed the song that my mother would always sing to me to get me to sleep before she'll leave me for the whole night. As I was humming, I heard light footsteps coming my way. I sank deeper in the grass curtains and hugged my knees. A wrinkled hand held out to me and reached out to pat my head.

There she is, the sweet old lady keeper of the cemetery, "You're crying again, deary?"

Smiling to her, I kept my head down as I absorbed the comfort she was giving me. She kneeled beside me carefully and let me rest my head on her chest.

She apologized and kissed my forehead, "I'm so sorry I told your boyfriend about this. Deary, it's not my place to know about this information about you. I know I promised you—"

"It's alright, Ma'am," I interrupted her politely before hugging her, "He ought to know..."

"I really appreciate that you considered not trimming this part of the cemetery," I gave gratitude to her for keeping away the people from this spot.

She giggled, "Anything for a beautiful damsel in distress..."

Her perfume calms my soul as her voice resembles the voice of a caring mother. She's also the reason why I visit this cemetery. She makes me feel all the things my mother failed when she was alive.

"Wherever your mother is, I'm sure she didn't regret having you..." Her voice regardless of her age stayed very melancholic and melodic, "I'm sure she regrets not being a good mother to you..."

"And those tears... They were tears of joy. Seeing a healthy angel in her arms that day..." she ended and beamed a smile at me.

I know I just stopped crying but I cried again while I'm in the arms of the sweet lady. She hummed the song that I taught her whenever we met in this dark part of the cemetery. Looking up, my eyes widened when I saw my mother, humming.

"Mom..." I muttered as the tears continued to splash like they were waves from the sea.

Her velvet eyes were closed, her long brown hair was tied in a neat bun. She was wearing her elegant white Victorian dress with a carnation flower crown reigned her head.

She leaned in to kiss me on the forehead. I closed my eyes and felt the warm feeling blossoming inside me. The old lady asked, "Is there something wrong?"

I just smiled, still confused about what I saw but I hugged her tighter and said, "Thank you..."

5:00 P.M.

We stayed there for a while but when her pocket watch struck at exactly 5:00, she walked me to the entrance. I hugged her one more time before thanking her for the companion and comfort.

When I turned around to walk towards the nearest bus station which was on 3rd Street, a young man holding a bouquet of Carnations surprised me.

"The nearest flower shop was actually very far so I—" he stuttered and averted my questioning gaze. "I'm sorry for being late..."

"I don't understand..." I said and refused to take the flowers.

"Fuck! This means, 'Take these goddamn flowers and—" he paused and blushed for a second. "And kiss me, Gorgeous..."

My jaw dropped in shock, it was his opportunity to kiss me and delve into an intimate action. The kiss was a 5-second commitment but as he stared into my eyes he said, "Nice meeting you again, Miss Aksenov" he chuckled and looked back at the sweet old lady behind me.

He mouthed, "Thank you..." —Before slightly bowing as a courtesy.

I never took the opportunity to ask her name because she said it was unnecessary for she wants to consider me as a lovable teen stranger she met at the cemetery but even though that's our set up, she sees me as a daughter and I see her as my mother.

"See? I told you this young man would never leave you..." she said and smiled at the both of us.

"So..."

I heard Saccharide's wondering.

"The date... Should we or—"

His stuttering was uncontrollably rising this day so I had to fill him with his normal cup of confidence. I kissed him and gave him a reassuring reply, "We should."

She thought I was going to leave her for just a petty reason. I killed countless people and still counting if necessary but she didn't leave me. Knowing this secret of her made me a little bit comfortable leaving her on her own and now I know, she doesn't need much protection.

"We should," Raine uttered before looking at the old lady. Both of us were surprised when Raine ran up to her and hugged her. She whispered something that made the old lady shed her tears and gave back the embrace.

As much as I wanted to see them together appreciating each other's company, my eyes gaze at my watch and the tune moves faster as we speak so I called out to Raine, "The concert starts at 7 so we better hurry up so we'll catch up with the other appointments I made for us,"

Raine let go and entered my car. Before I entered the car, I, too gazed at the lady and saw a reincarnated angel of a beautiful woman. Her velvet red eyes twinkled with tears, her wavy dark brown strands imitates the waves of the ocean, her smile burns like how Raine burns me with it.

"That's mess up, huh?" I questioned the lady, "I know you're a reincarnated soul—"

This lady is without a doubt the reincarnated soul of—

"...but such coincidence that you're the mother of Raine," I commented.

Juvia Dancel'maer, the mother of Raine Aksenov.

"It's rare to see reincarnated souls who still remember their memories and identities..." I reasoned out before putting my hands inside my pocket.

"It's a small world, young man..." she softly said.

Her eyes soften as she nodded, "I'm not the best mother for her..." she said and looked at Raine inside the vehicle, "Her father was still hiding her to protect his own reputation but he really loves her... Stuart and I never loved each other but we certainly love our miracle from God."

"She may not know of this because we got confined by our own families so—" she sadly revealed, "... I'll leave my girl at your hands, Angel Caliber"

She extends her arm to me and the image of the lovely lady soon turned into a sweet old aged lady keeper of the cemetery. I took her hand and kissed it as a sign of our forever commemoration of this moment.

"Make her feel the love she deserves..." she added.

I smiled and let her hand go, "Of course..."

The drive was not a more than 3-minute drive to the Skin Center but it seemed longer because of the awkwardness. None of us dared to speak but I was bothered by the silence enough for me to break it.

"Gorgeous," I called.

She hesitantly looked at but she was comfortable enough to smile at me, "Yes?"

"Guess the next stop..." I smirked as I saw her face crumpled into the face when you know something's going to happen so you go ahead make a shit full face.

Raine whimpered, "Not another cemetery."

I laughed at her serious joke and held her silky hand, "We're going to erase these scars together..."

Keeping my eyes on the road but the peripheral vision continued to admire her genuine aesthetic expression, "I found doctors who do laser treatment to make scars disappear so let's forget these wounds together..."

At first, she looked excited about the said treatment but then she turned to me and gripped my hand firmer than my grasp before saying to me with determination, "I won't erase these scars—"

What?!

"I don't want to forget the bad memories with you, Saccharide Heinz"

This girl keeps surprising me in any way and every way possible...
