"So..... what do we do now?" Tyler said, Denahi looked to him whilst he sharpened his knife with a piece of flint. He sighed, thinking of something, then he said:
"I don't know, I would help you to get out of these woods, but because of a recent rise in numbers of them beasts, and the fact that there's now more than one human out here, it's too dangerous to do that"
The boy's hair went on end when he heard that, "But, haven't you done this before, getting humans out of here and all that, if you could do it then, why can't you do it now?" He said.
"Because it would simply be too dangerous, we were able to help humans before because the numbers of the beasts were very low, to low to be any threat. But, just recently, our scouts have noticed a growth in the numbers of them, to large to take on, to make matters worse, they have started attacking any human that enters these woods, armed or not" Denahi said, a said look was now on his muzzle as he started into the fire, the other wolves emotions fell as well. their ears fell and eyes dropped to the floor. Then, Denahi lifted his head to the boy.
"But that doesn't we won't help you, we will do our best to ensure you, and any other humans are safe, and get back to your home soon" Denahi said, instantly, the small packs spirits were lifted by the leaders little speech, so were Tyler's.
"So your going to help me find my friends too?" Tyler said.
Denahi nodded, "Yes of course, if we want the best chance of finding them, then we must leave soon, after all, that freak is likely getting his whole band together for another try at getting fresh meat" Denahi said, his voice turning cold as he mentioned the wolf that attacked Athena and nearly had Tyler too if it weren't for the pack coming by just in time.
"alright, I guess I should get started on packing up" Tyler said, standing up and walking over to the tent and entering, he began packing up his stuff into his burgeon, rolling the blankets and stuffing the loose rations into whatever pockets had enough room in them, the tent had it's own pack, he could attach it to the back of his burgeon with his rolled up bed roll. Meanwhile outside, the small wolf pack was discussing on what to do.
"Are you sure we can't just take him straight out of here, that freak knows not to mess with us anyway" Zion said.
"I wish it was that simple my friend, but I've said already, their numbers are getting to large and are now a matter of concern to us, they could easily fight us one on one, we need to get back home and talk about this to the chieftain" Athena said.
"She's right, if we can get all the other packs to ally with us, we might be able to deal with the beasts quickly before they get to strong, soon they could threaten our very existence" Denahi said.
"Come on Denahi, we've lasted for several generations, many moons have past, and yet we are still here. Even the humans with their powerful weapons and strange magic still haven't found out about our existence" Meika said, a little belligerently.
"That would be because they don't have much interest in these forests, their to busy with their own problems and business than to try and find what they believe to be myths and legends" Sam said to Meika.
Whilst they were bickering to each other, Tyler was busy packing the tent up, it wasn't easy considering how hard it was to put up in the first place, but also that he had put it up in desperation, in the cold, freezing, he almost fell right then and there, because of that, a lot of the strings and ropes keeping it up were entangled on each other, requiring him to try and untangle them with his gloves on, it wasn't an easy task to say the least.
Finally, Tyler was done, he tied the tent bag onto the burgeon, making sure it was secure before slinging the burgeon onto his back, he clicked in the clips on the straps, securing it so that it didn't fall off. Once he was done, he made his way over to the wolves, who had already finished getting ready, they didn't seem to be carrying much with their small pouches on them, only Sam and Sakara had actual packs with them.
"Okay, I'm ready" Tyler said, looking up to Denahi, the big wolf nodded to him in response.
"Good, okay, let's go everyone" Denahi said, turning to the rest of the group, who nodded to him as well. The group began walking in a random direction, though Tyler knew that the wolves knew where they were going, they knew this place better than anyone on earth.
"Where are we going anyways?" Tyler asked Denahi as he walked beside him.
"Well first, we are going to find your friends, and then we are going to take you to our home, you and your friends will be safe there, that I assure you" Denahi said.
While Tyler didn't have much hope in finding his buddies, the night attack and the disappearance of Mitchell didn't help with his confidence, but Denahi and his wolf pack did give him some hope. Even with the new security detail leading him, he still scanned the trees around them, clutching his M4 so tightly his knuckles turned white, at some points he nearly fell over because of him looking around him and not where he was going. The snow had died down at least, but the cold air constantly blew into his face, numbing his nose and ears despite the parka's hood and the boonie hat he had on. He lifted his scarf up his face more and more with little effect as the thin material gave no resistance to the wind.
But, the group kept going, deeper and deeper into the woods. Before, Tyler had little hope in actually getting out and back to civilisation, at least with his buddies, but now with these wolves offering their assistance in locating them and helping them all together, maybe his luck wasn't so bad after all.
Meanwhile from afar, a set of eyes watched the group walk through the trees, looking through a pair of binoculars. A man lowered the bino's as he turned to another guy, both of them dressed in black clothes, with small black guns slung on her backs.
"Contact camp, tell them of this new development we've discovered, and that the situation has now changed" The man with the bino's said to the other guy, who immediately grabbed a headset and started talking into a small transportable radio, whilst the other man watched the young human and wolves disappear of into the distance.
