With the help of the wolf pack, the fire was brought back to life once again. The boy had gathered some blankets and placed them near the fire to warm them up before taking them to Athena to help her. Tyler was sitting next to the sleeping golden wolf, glancing down at his small sketchbook in his gloved hands. He had practically buried himself into his own uniform, his face barely visible thanks to his scarf and hood, the worry for Athena had prevented him from sleeping.
The tent door was lifted as a wolf Tyler didn't recognise stepped in, it had a fluffy coat with a white chest and muzzle, hands and upper arms with some white fur on the lower legs. The rest of the fur was a mix of dark brown and grey with grey around the face. It's mane had long strands running down with feathers in them. It had a necklace around it's neck with a wrist band as well and a leather pouch on it's upper thigh. The wolf climbed in and knelt in front of Tyler smiling warmly.
"Hello Tyler, I assume Denahi told you I would come over to check on you and patch up your wound, as well as check on her" The female wolf nodded to Athena, sound asleep.
"Yeah, you must be Sakara right?" Tyler put his sketchbook back into his trouser pocket.
"Yep, now why don't you sit up so I can check your leg?" Sakara moved over to Tyler and lifted his trousers' leg up to look at the wound, she made a wincing sound as she looked at it.
"That's a nasty gash, how did it happen?" She asked as she opened her pouch and pulled out a small bottle, pulling of the lid and pouring a small drop of it onto a cloth.
"Well, it was when I was running from that thing, I was climbing across a log to get away when I slipped, I must've cut it on a broken branch or something" The human winced as sakara wiped the cloth on the gash, the liquid was probably some kind of cleaning or rubbing alcohol, the stinging felt worse than the actual pain.
Sakara rubbed around the wound, being careful not to touch the exposed inside. She put the cloth back into the pouch and pulled out a roll of string and needle.
"Woah, woah, hey! What do you need that for?!" Tyler jumped back from the wolf.
"I'm sorry but I really need to close that wound up or it will get infected. Now I know this will hurt a little but please, I will try to be quick about it" Sakara tied the end of the string into the needle. Tyler thought about, coming to the conclusion that it was better than getting an infection in his leg. Tyler nodded to the wolf.
Sakara began stitching the gash, the human clenching his teeth in pain, a few tears dropped from his eyes.
"You did clean it right?" Sakara chuckled at the question as she focused on her work.
"Yes I did, I wouldn't be doing this if I hadn't".
Finally, Sakara's work was done, the gash was now stitched up, sakara gave it one last wipe over with the cloth before going back into her pouch and pulling out a bandage. She wrapped it around the wound slowly, making sure it was tight and not loose, she tied it at the end and pulled the trouser leg down over the bandaged leg.
"There we go, all patched up, I suggest you stay here until morning, don't put too much pressure on your leg as well" Sakara gathered her things and put them back into her pouch. As she began to walk out, Sakara noticed Tyler looking at Athena with a worried look on his face, his hand was on stroking the fur on her shoulder. Even thought these two barely knew each other for a whole day, Sakara felt sympathy for the human and Athena. Sakara placed a hand on his shoulder and pulled him into a small hug, letting his head rest on her fluffy chest.
"Don't worry, I'm sure she'll be okay" Sakara stroked Tyler's back, the looked up at her, she pulled off his hood and pulled down his scarf. His face was pale, whiter than the snow that littered the ground, his eyes fought to stay open, his lips were dry and cracked. Sakara saw a green canteen next to the human's burgeon, she took it and handed it to Tyler.
"You need to drink" Tyler unscrewed the cap and drank, but not before long the bottle was empty, leaving only droplets to leak out, the boy shivered as he swallowed the water.
"You need something a l lot more warmer don't you?" Sakara asked, Tyler nodded and pointed one of his gloved hands to another bottle, a plastic water bottle and a mug both sat in an open box next to his burgeon. Sakara thought of an idea.
"How about I take your water and warm it up with the fire, you'd you like that?" Tyler nodded. Sakara grabbed the bottle and mug before standing up and exiting the tent. The other wolf's were sitting around the fire, chatting with each other, a few were standing around the edge of the light from the fire, keeping guard, weapons in hand.
Sakara poured the water into the metal mug and placed it on a rock near the fire, making sure it didn't fall into the firepit.
"Hey Sakara, how they both doing?" Denahi asked from his seat on a log.
"Yeah they're both alright, I'm just warming some water for the boy, he seems very dehydrated, he really needs some sleep but it looks like he wants to watch over Athena, those two really have a strong friendship now don't they?" Sakara chuckled.
"Yeah they certainly do, I'm glad Athena was able to warm up to the kid, had it been me it probably wouldn't have gone so well" Denahi tossed another piece of log into the fire.
"I just hope she'll be okay"
Sakara stood up and placed sat next to him placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Don't worry, I'm sure she'll be fine by morning" sakara shifted her gaze back to the fire, the glow illuminating a large area of the woods, with the wolf's on guard, no freak would be getting anywhere near them.
