"MITCHELL!!" Tyler shouted, his voice sounding like a bellow from a large beast. He looked about, wondering what he was going to do next, he was on his own now, with no-one else from the camp and no-one back home would know about his situation either. He glanced back to where Mitchell once sat, on a rock facing the way they came from, now empty and void of him.
"I need to find him" Tyler thought to himself and he checked all around for any signs for his friend, he found it, several boot-prints leading to behind a tree, which turned into long drag marks along the ground and then, nothing.
But, as Tyler turned round, he found another set of prints, except, they looked like animal prints, canine prints to be exact. They were large, and bulky, Tyler could tell just by looking at them that whatever took Mitchell, was a humongous creature that he most likely would not like to run into.
Tyler looked upon the tree that Mitchell's boots were standing next too, and found several long marks in the wood bark. They were deep and appeared to start from a very high point, Tyler glanced up at where the marks started.
"Must be at least, 7 or 8ft tall!" Tyler mumbled, he looked closer at the marks and realised that they weren't just marks, but were claw marks.
Tyler looked back to where the drag marks lead, and decided that he was going to get his friend, even if it meant his safety and life. He ran in the direction of the trail, going deeper into the belly of the forest.
What Tyler failed to realise however, was that a pair of eyes were watching him from afar as he went. They held a warmth and kindness in them, a set belonging to someone with only a heart of gold, and a deep care for those around it.
"I hope those monsters don't get to him, i hope he isn't afraid of me" It said to itself before leaping off to follow the lost boy.
The sun was starting to go down, it's light slowly disappearing behind the mountains, the shadows growing bigger and bigger, and Tyler was beginning to lose his battle to stay awake and conscious, he had been walking for a few hours, trying his best to follow the trail that could lead to his lost friend.
His legs were starting to become sore, and his face had become frozen from the cold winds, his balaclava barely protected him, but it did it's job. Tyler had lost the trail long ago, it suddenly stopping in a small archway in a hill, Tyler just continued on, his hope of finding Mitchell and getting home, growing smaller by the minute.
Tyler stopped, and quickly turned his glance behind him, looking everywhere for anything, but found nothing.
"Great, not only am i going to be dead sooner or later, i'm going crazy" He thought, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end, the voice in his head shouting at him to run, but he did nothing, he just stood still, staring at the place he walked from.
Then, from behind the trees, a big black shape emerged from the darkness, it's shape seemingly peeling away from it like glue. It's glowing yellow eyes tore through Tyler's like a spear and into his very soul. It's black fur, shaggy and messy and covered with dirt.
It stood there, watching Tyler, then, the creatures mouth opened into a smile, the canines teeth caked in dried blood. Then, it let out a sound unlike anything Tyler had heard. It sounded like a mix of a wolf's howl and many other animals screeching.
Tyler backed up into a rocky wall, fumbling the rifle in his hands, he took aim at the beast's head, placing it within the cross-hairs of the scope and pulled the trigger, only to get a click.
"dammit!" Tyler shouted, as he tried to pull the charging handle, but couldn't, he desperately tried to find the safety lever as the beast stomped towards him, drool leaking from it's hideous grin. Tyler found the switch and flicked it, charging it, bringing the rifle to his shoulder, placing his target in the cross-hairs of the scope and squeezing the trigger, this time, the gun let out a loud CRACK as it went off.
The recoil threw Tyler on his back, as he looked up to see if he'd hit the creature, instead, the thing looked at it's shoulder, at the wound inflicted by Tyler. It's head turned back to the boy, it's grin turning into a scowl, as it prepared to leap at him.
The boy covered his head with his arms, closing his eyes and bringing his legs up to his chest, preparing for his end. His thoughts went to his family back in England, his mum and his sister, who Tyler swore to protect from the things that he had to deal with when he was younger.
But now, that was impossible, as he was about to be a meal to the very thing he use to think of as an amazing animal but was now the very thing that was going to eat him.
He heard the creature as it growled loudly, it leap'd into the air, aiming straight at the cowering boy. But, the boy's luck had just gotten a boost, as Tyler heard another growl from atop the rock, then a giant thud, then what sounded like a fierce fight between 2 rabid dogs, trees getting bashed, dirt flying, al sorts. The fight between the black creature and the unknown thing went on for a few minutes, before the sound of something heavy running off could be heard, and the trudging of feet or paws over to the boy who still hadn't moved an inch.
Tyler could hear something breathing in front of him, but he couldn't tell whether it was the thing that tried to eat him, or something else.
Just as quickly as it came, it took off, it's running echoed as it became quieter and quieter, growing quiet all together.
After what seemed like minutes, the boy looked up from his arms, slowly opening his eyes to see what was there....
Nothing. Absolutely nothing, he was all alone once again.
Picking himself up, Tyler checked his rifle, glancing it over. He looked at the area where the beast once stood, everything in the surrounding area was a mess, like their was a huge battle between 2 mighty warriors.
The trees were almost completely wrecked to no recognition, the ground a complete mess. Tyler, deciding he didn't want to find out what came by to fight the monster, looked around, picked a direction and quickly ran from the site.
