She was just a normal child, this was what he concluded from the bickering between Aernest and Eugene.
He had told Aernest about the rumors of Eugene, and Aernest did go mad, however, he said that his sister wouldn't care so for them, so for him to just forget about it. When asked why she wouldn't care especially because the rumors were about her, Aernest said that Eugene would think it was beneath her and also that people are free to have an opinion of their own.
