Chapter 4 - Alarming the World

"Help, I cannot move! Get me out of here!"

Albion shouted for help.

He no longer concerned himself with keeping up the act. He was not the Dark Emperor, but so what? Bite me!

He had the body of a True Immortal Body. Even if the Four Horsemen possess some cultivation and become hostile to him, they are not strong enough to harm him.

The Dark Emperor left all the managerial work and authority of Ashura Group to the Four Horsemen. Still, all the valuable items had always been kept on his body—or more precisely, inside the Ashura Ring on his finger.

The Ashura Ring was the only interspatial artifact ever refined by the Dark Emperor due to the scarcity of Void Stones on Earth.

If there were more Void Stones, the Dark Emperor would have refined more interspatial artifacts. But unfortunately, only one Void Stone had been found on the blue planet to date.

The Dark Emperor could freely traverse the stars to search for rare resources with his True Immortal cultivation base, but only if he were still alive. Unfortunately, his body was hijacked by Albion, who cannot even use a fraction of his newfound cultivation.

If Albion ever manages to break into the void without first perfecting control over his body and cultivation, he might just end up drifting off into the endless void for days on ends.

The Four Horsemen glanced at each other confusion, but after a moment, Thanatos smiled slyly.

"I will carry the boss." He said.

"Fine."

The other three nodded without a problem. They have all lived a few hundred years old. There was no need to compete over this like children.

Shortly after the half-naked Albion was picked off the ground, the five of them flickered and disappeared from the top of the Empire Building like blurred shadows.

Buzz!

New reporters later rushed to the scene on their helicopters with their teams and immediately jump into the live recording.

The stormy weather may have caused the local power outage, but the efficiency of city workers cannot be underestimated. In a short period, everything was back online and kicking.

Whether it was people inside or outside of River City, across the states, countries, or even around the world for that matter, everyone switched on their TVs, mobiles, and PCs to tune into their media channels for the latest updates!

The drastic change in weather cannot be explained with science, and the pillar of light that shined down on the Empire Building was even more unscientific!

[Hey, everyone. This is Allison High from BIC News, bringing you some live feeds from the top of the Empire Building. The strong winds and rains have subsided, but here, we are looking at what appears to be sort of beam of light.]

Despite being a little disheveled and short of breath, no one criticized the beautiful news reporter's professionalism.

To huge social media corporations like BIC News, getting firsthand coverage of breaking news was even more important than the journalism skills and professional work etiquette of their reporter.

Just like writing web novels. If the premise of the story is interesting, no reader will nitpick the author about using basic English.

There was no point in writing classic literature if it is hard to understand and fails to entertain its readers.

Everyone had their eyes fixated on the video's background on their screens as the camera panned upwards, highlighting the tall beam of light that shone down from the very heavens.

BIC New's social forums immediately exploded with online comments.

[Oh my god! What kind of light work is this? It is so rich and beautiful! Even heavily funded movie projects will not be able to replicate such impressive lighting!]

[We are not getting attacked by aliens, are we?! What kind of technology would be needed to shoot such a long beam of light?!]

Ding!

[Take a look at the forums on Stardust, everyone! They have just released satellite images of the light beam! You will all be in for a big surprise at how far it really goes!]

[Good lord! How far does this light beam stretch?! Are we being locked on by some super interstellar civilization from another galaxy?!]

[Oh my god, that sounds like a particular favorite sci-fi movie I have seen back in my childhood days, except much worse. Could this be a laser attack, intending to blow up our beautiful blue planet?!]

[Dafuq?! What did we do? Who the heck made them angry?]

[@Celestial Innovation, come out! We demand an explanation!]

[@Celestial Innovation, hand over your secrets! We will not believe your excuses without proof!]

The social forums were filled with chaos and spams. All the big space companies around the world suddenly found themselves under fire.

Many sought genuine answers, while others just wanted to join in on the fun and watch the world burn.

Meanwhile, back at BIC News, Allison High continued to carry out her work diligently. Nevertheless, BIC News lost its initial momentum and high viewership rating as people began switching over to other media channels.

After getting called by her team members, BIC News was put on pause.

"If it is not important, save it for later. I am working!" Allison High said.

The drop in viewership made her anxious. It directly affects her bonus.

"The Editor-in-Chief wants you on the phone."

"The Editor-in-Chief is?!"

Allison was immediately shocked. She did not expect the Editor-in-Chief himself to be calling her. She was just a small intern reporter. The only reason she landed such a significant role was due to her being beautiful and the only one available at the time.

After accepting the phone, her tone was very respectful.

"You called for me, Chief?"

"En! The National Defense Force has already been alerted of the situation at Empire Building. You only have five minutes left before they arrive and turn the entire area into a military-restricted zone! I do not care what you do, but if you cannot reclaim our previous high viewership rating, then don't bother coming back in for work tomorrow!"

"Y-Yes, Chief."

The call ended.

Allison's eyes became red. Why did such heavy responsibilities fall on her shoulders? The crew did not overhear the Editor-in-Chief on the phone, but they knew it was not good considering her expression.

"What did the Editor-in-Chief say?"

"Nothing."

Allison wiped her tears and put on a determined expression.

Life was not smoothing sailing. There will be many obstacles and stumbling blocks along the way that will try to put her down. But it is up to her whether she wants to stand up again.

"Bring us closer to the light and resume the recording. I think we can gain a lot of viewership if I can prove the light is harmless."

"What? That is too dangerous! We don't know what that light is!"

"Just do it, please?" Allison pleaded.

"…Fine."

The pilot found it hard to say no.

Not every battlefield involved guns, tanks, and bombs. At least, such was the case for fresh news reporters like Allison.

If you do well, you get promoted, respected, and pay raises. But if you do terrible, you get a lousy reputation, fired, and no one else wants to hire you.
