'WHAT DO I DO?' Alison whispered to her wolf.
'Call her. See if she can hear you.'
Aby other times, it would have seemed strange, but her wolf's words resounded in her mind, and she knew that's what she had to do. Tentatively, she reached out a mental probe, trying to find Atia's consciousness. She was there; Alison could feel her as her mind brushed against hers. It was only because of her magic that she could sense her mental presence at all, and she momentarily felt a flicker of surprise. The edge of her mind was like a stone wall, though, and Alison couldn't break through and mind-link with her as she could her pack. That was to be expected, though, as she wasn't her direct family or pack member. She decided to try speaking to her anyway.
'Atia. Are you there? Can you hear me?'
There was no answer. Alison could feel her body's profound stillness, yet her magic was still hovering at the surface, begging her to help her.
