Like he had said before it was his problem to fix, he couldn't just let them both die, it wouldn't be right. It just didn't feel right within him. Plus, who would even miss Grayson, everyone had given him enough proof that they didn't care.
He was the perfect candidate for this, even after Emily would have stripped his human side, his vampire side would bring him back. He would permanently remain dead, just as Marcel had intended to do. Guess, he got his wish after all.
To finally leave him with the two sides of himself that he hated, but it was a better outcome than Gabriel dying instead. Gabriel was still part human and even his wolf side is a living and breathing creature, there wasn't anything to prevent him from dying. For Grayson, it was different, he had that safe net to lean on, to catch him if he ever fell.
