ALSION STARRED AT HER NOTES. As the minutes of the lesson passed, the ceaseless buzzing of the classroom and the unlimited amount of energy the students continued increased which would be rare sight if the class was under their teacher's supervision.
Having no vicious teacher who would glare at the class with red flames dancing in her eyes as she expects an answer to a question even the worlds most intelligent mastermind couldn't provide answer to, was unbelievable chance worth taking to have at least a few moments of pleasure after a day filled with endless hours of algebra and chemical reactions.
"Psst." Haile tapped her shoulder, leaning forward in her seat.
"Am I just stupid or is this just difficult?" She asked.
"Shhh." Alison replied, brushing her off.
"Okay then, just me." She said leaning back into her seat.
Time didn't seem to move, guess she was right about getting back to normal, that it would help ease her mind. All it has been lately was normal, boring the very same all life she had before.
Sometimes, everything she felt inside made it hard to breath, to believe. But no matter how hard she tried that feeling, that voice that told her that everything that went on last week it never happened... It was like having a memory where you couldn't tell whether it was real or you just imagined it, like some sort of a bad dream, so your head can never make sense of it so you just let it go, convincing yourself that it was just your imagination, playing tricks on the mind. And maybe everything she thought, never actually happened.
It would explain why her mom didn't speak about it, not that Alison herself tried to speak about anything, it's just how it was with the both of them. They didn't speak much when she was young, so why start now? It's not like they were ever close and why would she start to change things now? It never worked out well for each of them, because every time she'd tried so many times before and she'd failed, always ended up in a massive fight.
Alison simply didn't see much point in it.
A ringing of the bell, indicating it's audiences to freedom, ending the remaining time of their last class of the day. And to that she felt glad, relieved that she didn't have to seat in a contained box for the rest of her remaining hours. No more time wasted, she'd readied herself to the exist, as her classmates had already left, excusing themselves.
"So, any plans for today?" Haile asked eager. Way more eager than before, a fire twinkled within her eyes as she smiled eagerly at her Friend.
"Um no, not really... Why?" Alison asked suspiciously, as they walked through the hallway, passing bodies of students rushing past each other, eager to get out of this school that Alison referred as 'Prison'.
"Oh, no reason," But there was a reason, and Alison knew all too well what she was going to ask, so she just waited giving Haile a look, raising her of her eyebrows.
"Oh, what I can't ask my best friend if she had any plans anymore?" Haile continued.
"Well you can but I know you, so what did you really want to ask?" Alison replied with an all knowing look plastered upon her features.
"No... Alright! Fine. Theres a party going off in the woods tonight and everyone is going to be there, and I know you do go to these sort of things but I think it will be good for you." She finished. 'A Party?' She'd heard something about it earlier in the cafeteria, but never cared about the details, she never really went to any of, not since her father died. It seemed pointless, everything was pointless.
"Please, I'll be there and Matt will also be there, you have to come." Haile begged. Her invitation seemed tempting, that need to let go for a couple of hours was desirable, to just be normal for just a couple of hours. That was too tempting to give it a pass, but did she really want to go to a stupid party? Where everyone drank, took drugs and used those things to justify themselves to have sex with one another.
"Um I don't know..."
"Come on Ali, you deserve this, just one single night where you don't have to worry about anything, like we used. Even you know you need this." She tried to convince Alison. She knew her friend had a good point, she knew she needed one night of complete freedom, where she didn't have to think of about anything but just being normal. She want one normal night where she could just be a normal teenager.
With a sigh, "Fine, but don't make me regret it."
"OMG! You definitely won't, I promise!" Haile screamed excitedly, unable to hold her excitement in, as she practically jumped up and down bubbling with joyfulness.
Maybe, it won't be such a bad idea after all.
THE MIRROR HAD THAT PATINA OF AGE OVER THE BRONZE FRAME, likewise the surface of the glass was splotched black in places. Alison stood and stared at herself, or at least the distorted image of herself.
The mirror showed her the women the world saw, all they saw, somehow it didn't seem right. Inside she was fireworks and rage, love and frustrations, ambition but importantly they didn't see the fear within here, she was afraid. It glowed within her eyes, how could they not see it? But instead, all they ever seemed to see was the dark haired and the kind of eyes you couldn't forget, while you're still looking at them. She ran a finger over the frame, feeling its cool ridges and grooves and the layer of dust that clung.
"Beautiful." Her mother smiled behind her, but never left her post by the door, as she leant against it, never attempted on entering her daughter's room.
"Thanks, mom." She replied, lowering her hand from the mirror. If only she felt beautiful. A feeling she longed for but never quite ever feeling like she was truly beautiful and if she was...she simply couldn't see it, all Alison saw was a basic girl with dark hair that would be hard to dy to any other colour and eyes darker than her hair. What was beautiful about that? There wasn't, it was basically basic, that's it. Nothing unique about her.
"Try to have fun today okay kiddo."
"Aren't you supposed to tell me things like, 'don't drink' or 'don't have sex' or something around those lines." She laughed.
"Well, are going to do any of those things because if you are, then that's completely different conversation." Liz replied as her eyebrow arched, all but seriously.
A small giggle left Alison's lips, escaping from her grasp but somehow it felt like a bit of her normality came back to her. Something she hasn't felt in weeks. "No, mom."
"Well, you better not ."
"I would never dare." She joked, but it was true- well most of it was true.
"Haile's waiting down stairs by the way." Liz was never the type of mother for strict rules, her mate on the other hand was, but she never saw the point in. Teenagers were going to do those things whether parents liked it or not, so she'd rather her daughter didn't have to sneak out of the house to go to a party. At least she knew where she was going to be and in knowing that, it gave her a peace of mind.
"I'll be down in just a minutes." She spoke, letting her already retreating mother know. With one last glance of herself in the mirror, with a sigh 'good enough.' She thought, turning away.
Making her way downstairs where Haile was in the staircase near the front door. Where she waited patiently. To say her friend didn't look amazing would alway be a lie, because unlike her she was the definition of beauty, while she dulled the room her friend would always lighten it because she shined bright, brighter then she'll ever will.
"It's about time, I thought I'd have to wait for eternity." She laughed laced with sarcasm, smiling up at Alison, who walked down the staircase with ease.
"Right, didn't you just get here though." But all Alison got in return was a roll of her crystal blue eyes, as they shifted from one place to another.
"Psst no." She joked.
"So dramatic as always." Alison teased, carefree. Something she hasn't been awhile and for that she felt grateful. Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea.
"Okay kids, be safe." Her mother ushered them both out, smiling excitedly although she wasn't quite sure why. Maybe it was because her own daughter was finally starting to live life again or Alison could be completely wrong and it might be something else instead, but no matter what the reason was, she simple was grateful that her mother wasn't at her throat and prevented her from having fun.
The door to her house shut and they were faced with Matt's car that hugged the black tarmac, bright headlamps illuminating the onward road. With a deep exhaling breath, she took her first steps towards the car. 'Tonight is going to be fun,' no matter how much she tried to convince herself, in the pit of her stomach said otherwise but she didn't know why.
"Hey Ali." Matt spoke, with a soft smile on his lips.
When Haile had met him for the first time, the both of them thought he was really handsome, with his curls midnight black, and his eyes a dark brown, framed by graceful brows. With skin that was golden, tanned and prominent cheekbones and a well-defined chin and nose. Of course, like most guys in this town he was rippled with muscles across every part of his body. He was obviously a warrior, like most guys in this town.
But no matter how charming and handsome his was, nothing could compare to Grayson, he was handsome beyond compare. She'd never met a guy was that good looking, she didn't think he existed but she was wrong. He did and somehow he was fated to be hers, even if fate had other plans. 'I guess it's true what they say, beautiful things die first.' No matter how much that thought stung her, it was true.
"Hey." She replied, getting in the backseat as did Haile, but she sat beside her made right in the passenger seat.
"Okay guys now lets go, I don't want to be late to this party." Haile said.
"Um babe, I think that's the point, the later the better."
"Matt, just drive okay, I'm not going over this again with you..." For mates they bicker like some old married couple, about the right timing when to get to the party as stupid as it sounded, it brought a sense of joy within Alison.
As the car engine sung to the narrow road, Matt relished the roaring winds that twirled in her dark hair and whistled in her ears. No matter the loudness of the engine, their bickering never wavered, it never creased.
So she chose to drown it out, escaping in her daydreams that flew in as if they played upon feathered wings. His eyes flashed within her mind, green hues of the forest in the summertime, they lived there, hibernating in the barriers of her mind. She imagined looking back into them, the way she did, but no matter that fantasy that seemed to built within her, she couldn't, more like she wouldn't let it consume her thoughts anymore, because letting it consume her it would mean that she would have to break down like she had done all week, it would mean that everything that has happened was real and she chose to not believe it. It was easier that way. It hurt less to be in denial.
"...Isn't that right Ali?" Matt said, pulling her out of her daydream, her consuming thoughts.
"Isn't what right? Sorry I wasn't listening."
"I was saying that, it's better to be late to a party cause that's when the fun begin, do you agree?" He asked, his voice was less deeper than Grayson's too.
"If you agree with him, I am no longer your best friend." Haile intervened once again, opposing her mate. 'I wish I had that," she thought, but the pang that entered her heart felt heavy and unbarring, she longed for something that she was never going to ever have. She was never going to have this, the stupid bickering about pointless conversation and pointless arguments. Was Grayson capable of that? She couldn't even imagine having a conversation with him, what would she say? What if she said something embarrassing?
"Well that's a pointless threat." Matt laughing at his mate's statement.
"What's that's supposed to mean?" She asked back pointedly.
"Babe no offence, but you don't have many other friends then Ali." He finished saying.
"Um, I do take offence to that Matt." Haile said folding her arms upon her chest, and gave her mate another pointed look.
"Sorry Haile, but I agree with Matt. The party does start later." Alison finally had chipped in, ending their bickering.
"Is this what hurt feels like?... It hurts..." She acted like some drama kid would do when on stage.
"Dramatic much." Matt said, which Haile returned it with a slap on his arm, causing him to laugh once more.
"Ugh! Fine, you're right, god!"
"Aww babe I know, I don't need you to tell me that." Matt replied all to cheerily.
"Whatever asshat." She grumbled.
"Oh come now, you're just mad because I'm right." He teased further.
"Fine, whatever rub it in my face, but know this my dearest mate, you're the one losing tonight." Haile finished with mischief within her crystal eyes.
"Wait, what?!"
"Yeah Mr Know it all. So enjoy your victory now but you'll see what you've lost later on tonight." She finished. Everybody knew who what she was insinuating, there was no surprise they have fully mated. It was expected in wolves to connect in that way, it brought them closer together, it bonded them in a much deeper way. Ways she couldn't quite put in to words, well at least that's what they taught her in school.
"As much I want to hear you guys bicker again, are we there yet?" Alison interrupted. All she saw was trees and more trees, they passed by her in a blur, 'how far was this party?' She thought.
"No not far from here, like five minutes." Matt said.
"Oh okay." But sh as she'd replied, the music was as loud as thunder; it would've made the cutlery on the tabletops rattle, 'good thing it's outside.' She thought. Neon lights flashed everywhere like police sirens, but much more colourful. 'How did they even get those lights here.' Disbelieved consumed her.
"Wow..." Haile said, expressing the same disbelief she felt.
"I told you the party is better later." Matt poked her one more time, earning a slight shove from her.
"Matt shut up already. I all ready said you were right." She replied frustrated. But no matter how much they bickered, they still loved each other more than anything, Alison could see it. It showed in their eyes.
"This is gonna be fun." Alison said, getting out of the car.
