Chapter 2 - New Beginning

Years Later…

Her eyes slowly opened when the sunlight hit her face which completely woke her up.

Then, she glanced at the ceiling only to see that all the glow-in-the-dark stickers had faded their glow.

She rubbed her aching temples before she got up from her bed and straight to the bathroom to do her morning routine.

Thereafter, she stepped inside her kitchen to toast some bread and cook bacon and eggs before she brewed some coffee.

As she waited for her bread, she grabbed milk inside the fridge and the cereals inside the pantry. She crouched on the chair whilst waiting patiently for the toast.

A new day of unending work for the company so she grabbed her laptop and checked the stocks for the supplies and a new contract for the future project.

She stood up to clasp the papers that needed to be reviewed and her signature.

Jaymianne Mar, an independent woman who continually operated the family small company called Mar Construction Supplies Inc.

The company supplied construction materials for every project of other construction sites for the clients and mostly, company partners.

A recent project was held by the CEO requested from the specific company, Martin Enterprise.

They paid in advance for a big project which was a building for the child support charity so it was very important to choose high-quality supplies for them.

To her research, Martin Enterprises held many charities for the orphan and the elderly. Not just charities, the company focused on importing agricultural supplies from every local market and constructing buildings for other companies.

Jaymianne hadn't seen the CEO of Martin Enterprises since the secretary was appointed for every meeting.

However, it didn't bother her since the big company trusted them to supply the construction.

Now she was stressed out since October was the deadline and the supplies weren't ready yet.

Her team needed to report as soon as possible.

The toaster spits out the bread. She placed it on the plate for her breakfast. She placed the coffee on the table with the cereals.

Then, she hummed happily while putting aside her papers and laptop so she had enough space for her breakfast. And all of a sudden, small footsteps came from the living room.

She turned around to look for it and there, she saw her baby, who was yawning while stretching his arms. She struck into awe and walked towards him.

"Good morning, Mama." Her son greeted her with a hug.

"Rise and shine, my baby! Good morning. How's your sleep?" She asked.

"It was good Mama. I have a nice sleep and a good dream."

"That's good to hear, my darling." Her mother said and ruffled his hair.

She wrapped her arms around her son's shoulder and strolled inside the dining room. Her son grabbed the cereals and poured them into the bowl before spilling the milk around the cereals.

Jaymianne wasn't just a CEO of the company, she was a single mother. Her mother helped her to raise a toddler before she died from cancer.

She was devastated by her mother's death yet she needed to be strong for her son.

"Austin James put the glass down or it'll break again!" She exclaimed while stopping her son from playing with the glass.

He giggled and placed it down. "Sorry, Mama."

She smiled at her son's baloney. She knew it wasn't a sincere apology but she didn't want to scold him. After all, he was a cheerful kid.

"Aus, Uncle George will be here soon to pick you up so get ready after eating your breakfast." She announced.

"Okay, Mama."

She shook her head in disbelief when her son hurriedly ate his food. He was excited to see his uncle.

George Miller was her trusted friend ever since their parents became neighbors a few years ago. They became classmates in middle school and built a strong bond until now.

He knew everything that happened to Jaymianne even when she was pregnant with Austin and supported her.

George became her son's second parent ever since her mother died and she was grateful for having him in her life.

After an hour, George went inside the house and met her inside the dining room. She walked towards him and hugged him.

"Jayme, where's my baby?" He uttered and loosened the hug.

"He's upstairs."

Then, they sat in the living room while waiting for her son. George glanced at him deeply. Her head cocked to the side, confused and she realized that he wanted to ask something but he couldn't babble it.

"You know you can ask me…"

He sighed and leaned his back on the backrest of the couch. Then, he glanced and asked, "Did your son ask you about his father?"

Her heart thumped rapidly when hearing his best friend about the man, who wrecked her years ago.

That man was the love of her life and even from what he did, she couldn't even get mad at him.

Is it because she loves him very much? She didn't know since after what happened, her mindset was still the same.

If ever their path crossed, he was a stranger to her and he will never meet his son.

"Why do you ask?"

"Well, your son kept asking me and my boyfriend about his father and it drives me nuts. I don't know what to answer!"

"Just stick to our agreement that his father died a long time ago."

"And you even pointed to the unknown grave just to make him believe that his 'father' died."

"I just… need to do that."

"He wasn't buying it at all. He's a smart kid and he knows what is happening to you."

She heaved a deep sigh and nodded. She couldn't think that it'll be harder for her to hide it from her son.

Her son's father died a long time ago after she left him. Ever since, they haven't had communication.

She didn't bother to search for him or contacted his friends to tell them about her pregnancy. She focused on resuscitation and started a new beginning for her family.

"I'm ready Uncle George!" His son exclaimed excitedly.

He ran towards George and hugged him. "You big guy! Ready to go and see your classmates?"

"I was born ready, Uncle George," James said.

"Okay, now go to your Mama and say goodbye to her," George uttered.

He responded with a nod, sprinted toward his mother, and hugged her tightly. Her mother giggled and tapped her back. Her son kissed her mother's cheeks and giggled.

"See you later, Mama! I'll be good at school."

"I know you are. Now go and have fun!" She said,

Then, James walked towards George and held his hand. George glanced at her and smiled.

"I'll visit you at your office so we could have some lunch," George informed her.

She responded with a nod. Then, her eyes locked on them, who were leaving her house.

"I should get ready too."
