Chapter 37 - Chapter thirty-seven

From the opposite direction, Andreas' walked, his jaw was rigid giving it an even sharper appearance. He was forcing himself not to walk behind her and apologize. He was usually used to acting like that, breaking up with girls as if they meant nothing, as soon as he finished playing with them and got bored. But with her, it was different, for the first time in hundreds of years he's been alive he felt something and was getting seriously attached.

"Maybe it's better this way." He said in low voice trying to convince himself that if he cut ties with her before getting too close it wouldn't hurt much in the future both ways.

Roselyn meanwhile entered her next class, which was magic training.

What perfect timing, she thought.

"Roselyn welcome to your first class of magic training, I'm Alicia." A woman with red straight shoulder-length hair said smiling.

"The first practice today is controlling a power that doesn't belong to you. Roselyn, I heard you can control ice and water so we will work with fire today."

Roselyn couldn't stop the worried expression that her face assumed as soon as she heard what Alicia said.

She barely could control her powers how could she manage to shape fire?.

"You'll get there don't worry." Alicia smiled trying to reassure her, noticing her worried expression. Then her gaze went to stare at each student when it stops over a blonde curly hair.

"Emma, show her what to do. Tell me when ready."

They walked in front of a tall table in which was situated a bowl that contained few wooden sticks.

Emma nodded gazing at the bowl in front of her, Alicia closed her hand and some flames appeared upon the bowl.

The girl then proceeded and stretched her hand close to the flames and it slowly put the fire out just to feed it again. The flames were perfectly following the moving of her arms in perfect harmony.

She made it seem so easy but Roselyn was sure she wouldn't be able to do that, especially that day when she was still fragile from the earlier events.

"Well done, Emma." she smiled and then went to look at Rose:

"Your turn."

Roselyn's heartbeat so fast that she could hear the beat through her chest. She took a long breath as she reached the table.

"Tell me when you're ready."

"I'm ready." She said and the flames started to grow upon the wood.

She stared at the flames trying to memorize their flows and concentrating mainly on positive emotions.

Some students giggled from behind seeing how long it took her.

She finally fisted her fingers closing her palm's hand but the flames just trembled.

It wasn't working. The giggles of the students watching her increased but Alicia cleared her voice and they placated.

Roselyn tried to ignore them but got slightly frustrated.

She closed her eyes. It was hard to think of positive emotions when all bad things happened to her. She had nothing to hold on to so she decided to try to change her approach.

She thought about Andreas and the way he left her, like if he didn't care.

Flames started to grow.

Maybe David was right, everyone warned her about him, but still, she was silly to believe him and don't see the red flags he was showing from the beginning.

She felt so angry now and unconsciously angered fueled the fire hugely. Growing the highness of almost the double, but she couldn't see it since her eyes were still closed.

The gasp of some students made her open them.

The fire consumed quickly all the wood and was now burning the bowl below.

"Stop it," Alicia said staring at her straight in her eyes.

Roselyn managed to keep her anxiety under control, she didn't need any additional emotion to disturb her attempt.

She then changed her approach and tried to think of a positive memory she had. She thought about the days she spent with her adoptive mother: Anne, in France years ago.

How they spent their days wandering around Paris' streets and stopping by every bar that had macarons and pan de chocolate in the morning. Their afternoon used to be museum visits and taking pictures in front of the breathtaking Eiffel Tower.

She smiled as she could hear the birds chirping and the smell of Galette des Rois freshly baked.

Her emotions calmed down and the fire followed immediately after. She did it.

Her smile widened as she succeeded in controlling her emotions, fire was following her hand that moved slowly driving it.

"Well done!!" Alicia exclaimed, amazed, and clapped her hands in excitation.
