Mona Lisa POV
Today had an unusual turn for me I became all giddy it felt like I had already been drowned in love for Luke he is all I could think of this past few days and the one am thinking of now and maybe forever more, work was no longer my priority since I couldn't concentrate on anything, my mind was more focused on our date or dinner or whatever they call it.
I also had issues with what to wear I really want to surprise him and my closet doesn't have any good choice they were all black.
For the first time ever I wasn't into wearing black I felt like Luke cracked open the real me who loved sharing the elevator, love smiling, laughing and so many more.
I looked at my watch it was already 3 pm and I haven't done anything not like there was something to do and even if there was Mr Mario was unavoidably absent today something about his contract with one huge company, I really didn't pay much attention to our conversation. There was much to do and yet little time so I called Laura and cancelled all my 4 to 7 meetings, I drove myself home cause Andre had exams today.
When I got home I noticed how quiet it was the curtains we're loose blocking every sunlight from coming in I went over there and pushed open the curtains I felt happy with myself as sunlight glistened through the window, I felt the urge to call Luke and ask him what he will have for dinner I had no idea what kind of food he eat I for one loves everything Mrs Williams cook they taste great I looked at my wristwatch once again this time the short hand was in 4 and the long hand was on 7 that means I have three hours left and yet nothing has been done.
I overheard laughter coming from the kitchen it sounded like a male trying to laugh as a female then I heard Mrs Williams voice, it had to be one of her visitors so decided to leave and maybe come back and tell her about Luke's coming and what to prepare. I stopped at my tracks when she started talking about I couldn't help but eavesdrop on them I know it a bad manner but I really need to know what she felt about me, she kept on praising me I couldn't help but cry no one has loved me than she has I wasn't even aware if Luke's love was greater than hers.
I was so into my sorrows I didn't notice that she was standing by my side "Mona why didn't you tell me you were home already" she said in soft yet husky voice
"I just arrived, I see that you are busy we'll talk later I also have to get ready am having a visitor so maybe with the help from the maids you can make this place more decent and prepare something delicious okay" when I said that I bent low and kissed her chubby cheeks.
"If it isn't the bitch of my time...." A familiar voice said, I was certain I knew who it was.
"Gabby?" I said slowly before I turn and saw him stretch out his hand for a bear hug I didn't refused it as I jumped on him "Gabby!" That was the only thing I could say until he released me.
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming"
"I wanted to surprise you, oh my God look at you so is true what they write about you on the tabloids" Gabby said as he opened his mouth I know he is overreacting but c'mon I don't look that bad.
"Don't mind what they say it's just a bunch of rubbish, come let's go to my room we'll talk better and we have a lot of catching up to do"
"Well then let's go" he said as he dragged me through the stairs like he knew where my room was, it took me by surprise when he stopped by my room as if reading my mind he said "I did a lot of snooping before you came back, gosh your house is huge I could have gotten lost assuming Mrs Williams hadn't called out to me so I followed her voice and found my way"
"Enough of me how is your love life, don't tell me you are still drowning in your sorrows about Moore's death c'mon you should know that he was good as done so tell me who is in your life" Gabby said without breathing for a split second.
I laughed at the thought of Luke being the love of my life I mean he is but I wonder how it sounds to others, not like I was going to tell anybody other than Gabby who I trust with all my heart he is the only close friend I have although it had for us to communicate often due to our work and preferences and distance so we see each other rarely " I do have a guy.....and he is coming over for dinner or we could call it a date"
"Then let's go shopping" Gabby said as he got up from my bed when he noticed my resistance and asked "What stopping you... huh or don't you want to surprise him?"
"I do, but I already have.....", "That....."a sharp voice cut me off, "Don't Tell me you want to go out looking like a fashion disaster just like how you look on the tabloids"
"Gabby I want to look good and as well still be myself"
"Who is changing who you are...am only changing your wardrobe not you"
"But...."
"No but cause you gonna get that lazy ass up, pick up you credit cards and let's move out, unless you want someone to steal your man" the thought of Irene taking Luke from made me stand up and "No" it took Gabby by surprise although he was able to get it together.
We went to the mall, Gabby made me try out all the limited outfit in the mall she still couldn't find the perfect outfit everything to her was bland, I also had to use the VIP area just because of those annoying reporters. We finally found the perfect outfit and other clothing items which could help in changing my wardrobe Gabby also bought a lot of things.
We arrived around 7 and was welcomed by the sweet smell of Mama's cooking I couldn't say what she was cooking cause I had no idea what it might be I had an hour left before Luke arrives so Gabby did my hair and makeup so also assisted in wearing my cloth she said I looked divine which I agree eight thirty seven I was done but there was no sign of luke everything was set Mrs Williams prepared engulfed the entire house, Gabby returned promising to come to office for the entire gist but I felt there won't be any gist if Luke doesn't show up and I was very scared and disappointed that he might not it was like I wasn't the only one who was worried as Mrs Williams came to check on me.
"Lisa are you sure he is going to come it's already eleven and he hasn't shown up.....maybe you should eat and go to bed dear"
I actually didn't know how fast time could run and I actually didn't know how stupid I had become to wait for a guy who barely knows how to call and say when he would be late, tears formed in my eyes but I held it in as I said to myself how strong I am.
I went to bed hoping today and everything was just a dream but it just so happened the next morning I woke up in the same dress I wore to impress Luke I picked up my phone to check for any miss call but nothing but just my today schedule Laura sent to me.
I arrived at my company I saw two old men around My late husband age one I could recognize ( Mr Santiago) the other I couldn't I moved closer maybe if I got a closer view I might remember who it was, it was when I got too close realization struck me it was Irene dad my husband brother I wondered what plans those two are plotting.
"If it isn't my late brother's wife, Lisa how are you...." Irene father said
"Good....why didn't you inform me about your arrival" I replied also acknowledging the fact that Luke's father was there.
"That's because we are about finalising the wedding so I had no time to come visiting but I promise when our children are married I will visit"
"Wedding...what wedding?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing Luke is getting married to Irene and I wasn't told.
"Am surprised Luke didn't tell you...Irene has travelled to our home town for the marriage preparations so you will have to excuse her you know how brides are..." Mr satiago said, how come I didn't see this coming God am stupid.
"I will send you an invitation card" Irene father added
"Am sorry I won't be able to make it, so please pardon me" I politely decline, who in this world would want to see their love getting married at the altar without wanting to disrupt the wedding.
"I will still send the invitation card just in case you change your mind" Irene father.
"When is the wedding?" I asked out of curiosity
"Next two weeks, we want it as soon as possible that why we organized a dinner yesterday" Mr Santiago smile widened
"Please to will have to excuse me, i've got to finish up something" I lied, of course i had nothing to do just wanted to stay away from all this.
I thought of only one person to call I picked up my phone and dialled Gabby's number he picked up immediately probably because I was the one calling "Gabby....he is getting married" I started off.
"Who dear?, Oh no don't tell me it's Luke" I nodded my head like he was seeing me "he even stood me up yesterday" I continued.
"He did what...am so gonna kill that guy"
"Am so stupid Gabby"
"Yes you are but don't trouble yourself you know there are several fishes in the sea"
"But I just want only one fish...." I picked up my napkin and blow out snort from my nostrils then I continued "And his name Luke"
"Babe do you know what you need now.... alcohol am not in the country right now maybe when I get back tomorrow or next we will discuss this okay"
"How did you get out of the country so fast..." After giving it a lot of thought I added "Am sorry this isn't making me think well"
"That's how heartbreaks is it doesn't make you think well..." I wanted to respond that when the telephone on my office desk rang "Gabby we'll talk later" and our conversation ended.
I picked the telephone the person on the end said "Miss Moore, Mr Luke is here to see you" the excitement of wanting to see Luke came into me and every pain he'd cost me suddenly vanished but that's when reality struck me, the thought of Irene in a wedding dress and Luke in a tuxedo looking dashingly handsome as always lingered in my head.
"Laura tell him am busy and anyone coming to look for me say the same thing okay"
I wasn't expecting Luke to be so smart enough to come in even after I told Laura not to let him in, he closed the door behind him and walked to my table I sat down feeling uncomfortable having him in here but he didn't mind probably because he had no idea I was uncomfortable right now.
"Lisa we need to talk, it's about..."
"The wedding....or about our supposed dinner at my house, Luke do you know what I think of you....you are a self centered asshole you throw the word girlfriend, love, marriage like they mean any damn thing to you, and all along I thought I was in love with a man. From now on we'll only be normal workers trying to earn for the good of this company cause whatever we have now is gone...pufff vanished" I said as I got up from my sit.
"Am leaving, this place has become way too stuffy for my liking" Luke was left staring as I walked out of my office and that's how it's ended between me and Luke a love story that was never supposed to be told or so I thought.
