Chereads / A Nameless Soul / Chapter 2 - The Inheritance

Chapter 2 - The Inheritance

The spirit circled around him, observing him.

"How curious...for a boy, you have astounding willpower."

The boy leaned against the wall as his mouth curved upwards.

"Since you're here, then I assume there is a way to heal me."

The spirit halted in its motions as it floated in front of him.

"That's right...but the solution is problematic."

"Do it."

The boy's eyes flashed with determination as he spoke, his arms straining to push him off of the wall he used as support.

"Very well."

The spirit spun around the boy rapidly, slowly enveloping him in a curtain of blue light.

As the cocoon was completed, multiple spikes shot out and pierced into the boy's skin.

He howled out in pain as his veins pulsed blue, the spirit watching the cocoon from the outside in silence.

When the light faded, the boy emerged into the spirit's view, slumped against the ground on his knees.

As the boy's eyes fluttered open, his veins pulsed an eerie ice blue.

"So the solution you were speaking of…"

"Was to turn you into an ice spirit, yes."

The boy slowly stood up, dusting himself off.

"Seeing as you have been fully assimilated with your new form after completing the trial, I shall teleport you to the nearest town."

He sighed.

"Someday, when you've finished everything you wish to do, come visit."

The boy nodded silently as a magic circle appeared under him.

The spirit slowly faded away as his surroundings shifted into a blinding white.

As the light faded away, he found himself standing in a plaza. Before he could register the change in scenery, several men pushed their way through the crowd surrounding them.

"Who would come here?"

"It's been so long since we've had a visitor…"

"Why is he alone?"

"God knows where he came from…"

As the whispers rose in pitch, a thin, lanky old man stepped out in front of the crowd.

"Silence!"

His voice boomed across the plaza, hushing the clamoring crowd.

As the old man's sharp eyes scanned him, the boy felt a chill down his spine.

When their gazes met, a gust of wind swirled around them.

The old man chuckled as he appraised the youngster.

"My, my, what a strong will! Let us welcome our newest guest with a party becoming of the Northwind Tribe!"

As the crowd cheered, the boy blinked incredulously, surprised at the swiftness which they had accepted him with.

The old man patted his back, causing him to stumble a few steps forwards.

"Come now, don't be so surprised. We haven't had a visitor in years!"

He laughed heartily.

"Let us ready a feast the likes of which I'm sure you've never seen!"

As the boy followed, his eyes observed the villagers rushing about, preparing items that radiated an immense ice aura.

Before anyone could react, he appeared in front of one of the objects and grabbed one, his entire right arm turning into ice.

The old man's eyes widened in shock.

"An elemental!"

All of their eyes shone with greed as they dropped what they were working on and drew their weapons.

The boy's arm glowed bright blue as it harvested the gem of all of its energy, before turning to meet the coveting gaze of the Elder and his villagers.

His mouth curved upwards as he assessed them.

"So my guess was right…"

"Then were you going to sacrifice me?"

The Elder cackled eerily.

"I don't have to answer you, boy! Get that elemental's core and we'll be rich!"

The villagers roared in excitement as they rushed forwards, all of them emanating a fierce and savage aura.

As they charged towards the boy, his mind flashed back to what the spirit had taught him within the cocoon.

"Blizzard."

A cold wind blew forth as it whipped up a furious storm of snow that had seemingly appeared out of nowhere.

As the villagers rushed forwards, the fierce whirlwind swept them into it, tossing them around like ragdolls.

The crunch of bone on ice resounded through the town accompanied by howls of pain.

The elder clapped his hands in delight as he witnessed this.

"And it's at least a 2-star in strength!"

As the blizzard intensified, a hulking figure strode past the elder, walking towards the storm of snow and ice.

The boy's eyes sharpened as he looked towards the new arrival.

As he emerged from the blizzard to face the boy, the man grinned, drawing a large buster sword from his back.

"Who knew that something as rare as an elemental would show up!"

Licking his lips, the man's grin shifted to a cruel smirk.

"Looks like we're gonna make a fortune."

The man disappeared and reappeared in front of the boy, his sword cleaving down at him.

A muffled explosion was followed by a shockwave as the snow was stirred up into the air, impeding the man's vision.

Before he could react, a small palm landed on his chest as a shadowy figure slipped past him, causing his eyes to widen.

"You-"

The words never left his mouth as his body froze into an ice sculpture.

As a cold wind blew, the ice cracked, before shattering, revealing the unharmed figure of the bulky man.

He snarled, before slashing downwards at the boy. A gold aura surrounded him, restraining his opponent.

The boy took a familiar stance, sweeping his leg back.

"Frost style…"

As the sword cleaved downwards, the boy shifted, moving past it.

"Winter Breeze."

A trace of snow drifted in the air, causing the man's gaze to shift for a second. The sword impacted the ground, leaving a deep scar on the earth.

A flash of white hair slid past the man's vision as his lower body turned numb.

The man's eyes widened in horror as the cold energy invaded his body.

"Y-you-"

"Shatter."

Time seemed to freeze as the boy clenched his fist, until the body erupted in a shower of blood.

The elder stumbled back in terror, scrabbling for his cane. As his hand touched the gnarled handle, he breathed a sigh of relief.

His sigh of relief became a scream of pain as a sharp piece of ice jutted out of his hand.

"D-damn boy!"

The elder gritted his teeth as he tried to rip the ice out of his hand.

His panicked eyes settled on the white haired boy, widening as they swept over him.

Not a single speck of blood tainted his body.
