Jason inhaled deeply. He closed his eyes and didn't any move for a few seconds. When he opened his eyes, he saw that Daniel took a few steps away from him. ''Stop it,'' Daniel said.
''Stop what?'' Jason said, and while saying this, he realized that he could hear Daniel's racing heartbeat. He sensed the little girl with her ear on the door at bedroom. He felt the boy and his dog sleeping side by side on the lower floor, and the two neighbors upstairs who had little time to live. As soon as he thought he shouldn't have known them, the senses are gone.
''Stop doing whatever you are doing. I got goosebumps.'' An involuntary shiver passed through Daniel's body. He put his hand in the belt holster where he was used to carrying his weapons. Jason was grateful that Daniel had no weapon right now. Daniel probably wouldn't shoot Jason just because he felt frightened. But like I said, 'probably'. Daniel fixed his eyes on Jason, ''What the hell was that?''
''I don't know,'' Jason said. Daniel kept looking at him. ''I really don't know. Nothing like this has ever happened before. I think I heard the water in your blood running through your body.''
''Are you kidding me?'' Daniel's eyes opened wide. Jason shook his head. ''Do you have any idea how useful this can be while trying to find water in that damn desert? Or while looking for cobra shape shifters hiding in those labyrinth caves? It would be much easier than torture to learn their basement.'' 'Guilt,' the last vestige of the talent that had just vanished, whispered in Jason's ear. Was Daniel feeling guilty for what he did? So why did he carry it in his hands to show the world?
''I could not. I don't know how to do it.'' 'Liar,' the thing inside was giggling. 'F*ck off!' Jason thought.
Daniel was observing him as if he had seen Jason for the first time. ''You can't learn to use it if you don't practice it.''
''Whatever. Can we go back to the topic? Do you really think the hunters' families are in danger?'' Jason sent the golden-eyed beast back to where it had been locked for a long time.
''I would do that if I were.'' He corrected his posture, took control of his voice. He reminded himself that the other person was not a beast but a friend. ''Is there someone you are worried about?''
Jason thought for a few seconds, ''No, they take care of themselves.''
''Jason, I know neither of us is one of the lucky ones in these family issues.'' He waited for Jason to look into his eyes to continue, ''But if something happens to someone because of you, you will never forgive yourself. Go, see who you are thinking of.''
''Can we close this topic?'' Daniel sighed and nodded. ''Eve, I know you're spying on us. Come here.'' Leaving the bedroom, the little girl smiled innocently. Jason's sweater was covering up to the little girl's knees. Her one shoulder was exposed because his sweater collar was too wide. Jason's expression softened. She somehow managed to tangle her hair while sleeping. ''Today I will visit to the Nyx temple for Eve,'' The little girl's eyes sparkled. ''...try to find out the victims' positions in the pack and check if the police made any progress.''
''I will also talk to my contacts in the city.'' Daniel said that and sighed. He gave Jason one of his very, very sad look. ''I wish I had a friend who would give me his gun, standing useless next to his pillow. What if someone attacks me while I am unarmored?''
''Burn them. I said already it is forbidden to carry guns while not on active duty.''
Daniel pouted, ''You know I can't just do it. It's not as easy as it seems.''
''Yeah, I know." Jason smirked. "Look what came to my mind, I'll show you something you will like.'' Ah, yes. He will love it.
Ten minutes later, Daniel was as happy as the kid in the toy store. Of course, in this case, the toy shop was a weapon shop. As Daniel checks the balance of the throwing blades, what surprised Jason was Eve's interest in guns. Jason was still answering Eve's questions when Daniel chose the ankle holster and silver blades.
"And that's why using seam-proof knives is considered a war crime." Jason explained to Eve.
"So what are you doing with them?" Daniel was done.
"Maybe I am a collector."
"No, you are not," Daniel looking at his new toys with love, "I have meetings that I would prefer not to miss. So, have to say bye for now."
Jason nodded, "You know where I live, I prefer you knock on the door next time."
Daniel smirked, "I will try."
