Chereads / The Bandaged Lady / Chapter 6 - Under the Moon and Sun

Chapter 6 - Under the Moon and Sun

Ginger's legs dangle as she sits on the top of the rooftop's edge while feeling the breeze of the cold night.

Jirile and Kesha were also here as they stand by Ginger's side while looking at the area where the battle with the orcs happened.

Herlye? She's not here but we can see her running laps in the field on our left side.

That Herlye... She did know that then orcs will be attacking this day and she even stayed in her room than be outside, attending classes. It wasn't like she was afraid she said. She just doesn't see the point of why would she bother to attend class when it'll be suspended because of the chaos brought by the orcs.

Well, she could've warned me about it right? Since I am a part of those who'll manage them.

Now she's running a hundred laps as her punishment.

"It's a good decision not to calculate the movements of those orcs." Jirile said as she watched Herlye running another lap.

Just like she said, she must've thought about calculating those monsters' arrival but discarded the idea.

I don't know what to feel about her decision. Should I just let her for the reason that she didn't try because someone is already doing that task?

"If that's what you think." Ginger said. "On the contrary, Kesha and I think that it's a good thing not to be blessed with intelligence." She added as she giggled.

Is being dumb even a blessing? I don't know what's going on inside her mind.

"That just goes for yourself. Don't drag me with you." Kesha responded, refusing to be called an idiot in an implicit way.

Ginger laughed awkwardly. "Okay, although that hurts me a bit."

"The s-class is indeed experienced and strong. They might even end the chaos without me." I butted in. If that kind of topic continued, I'm sure we might end up not having to talk about what we're here for. "The rumored 'Unknown Scarlet' didn't show up." I sarcastically added and they coughed at the mention of a title.

"Well... That's not weird." Ginger looked at me with an awkward face. "But you can stop talking about it. It just makes you weird talking about... someone."

I sighed. It is really weird to talk about Scarlet.

"But with those orcs, the overall orcs may be suffering a great deal of loss," Jirile said. "The ten of you wiped away two thousand orcs in just a matter of time. Are you monsters or gods and goddesses?"

"Hey, don't flatter her if you don't want to be crushed." Ginger whispered to her. Trying to warn her about me but I ended up hearing her instead.

"I hear you, Ginger."

"But 'ya know? Violet is the most gorgeous woman that I've ever met!" She immediately gulped.

"You just told me not to flatter her." Jirile sneered at Ginger with a grim expression.

"This is not the time for that!" Ginger whispered harshly at Jirile. "My life is in the line!"

I don't even know if she's doing this all in purpose since I could still hear her. I stepped forward and didn't think a second before kicking her off the rooftop.

She yelled silently as she falls down the building. Good thing she knows how to be silent sometimes... even though she's already falling.

"That's what you get..." Kesha and Jirile mumbled while watching Ginger fall from a high height but she succeeded in spinning mid-air and landing with one foot while doing a pose.

Look at this crazy person.

Kesha looked at me. "You know she won't die with a mere fall. Why did you bother?" She asked.

"The fall isn't her punishment," I said. "It's about walking up here again."

"Well, that's hell." Kesha nodded in agreement.

"Midnight is near," Jirile said as she watched her wristwatch moves its hand. "We should hurry."

Kesha and I nodded. "And before you all go, the reports will be passed every month instead of every week. I will also try to talk to the headmaster and threaten him if he'll continues contradicting the end of the deal. The four of you, stay low during classes and physical tests but always spare some time to improve your skills and endurance. Stamina is already good but it is important to make it better and if possible, best." I took a pause and put my hands behind me and watched the moon in the sky. It still glows brightly like always. "Exercise and make some improvements. Both physical..." I looked at Kesha and Jirile. "...and mental."

They both nodded and I turned my heel around. I walked my way to the door and opened it. "Rest is also important but do your best in researching. I got the bests out of the best people in that task in Aravas. I know I can count on the four of you."

I opened my eyes up to the harsh sunlight hitting me beyond the bandages. The bandages are just for one specific reason and they can't block any sunlight or attacks. I sat up from my bed and looked at my body wrapped in bandages while wearing a pair of black pajamas.

I stood up and went to the kitchen to brew myself a cup of coffee. After making a coffee, I approached the glass wall of my room and tied the curtains. I sat down on a chair placed near the wall and sipped on my coffee while looking at the bright view outside.

It's Saturday and I don't have to attend shitty classes nor do some kilometer run for attendance. It's a free day for me and I should go and talk to the headmaster but I don't want to ruin my day.

Talking to him is just... making my head ache like a hyper kid that keeps on bothering me.

After taking a shower and changing clothes. I went out of my room and silence welcomed me. I just stood there in the hallway feeling... unusual?

Lily, Delora, and Virgo are always out around this time and usually, they'll bother me. Maybe they're still sleeping since it's a day for resting. Maybe I got used to them sooner than I expected.

I went out of the floor without bumping into some s-class or should I say, classmates of mine. I silently went out of the building and went to the place where the orcs came from.

I don't know why I want to head there. Maybe it's the only place that was pinned in my brain after that one orc said the name of that kingdom.

The big wall protecting Althea broke because of the power that those ten high orcs hold but it is well now since the wall looks new and the magic that it has increased. The burnt ground is also repaired now with its green grass swaying at the pace of the wind. The cracks and damages that were made during the fight were already gone.

All in short, it's as good as nothing happened.

"Miss Rioden, I am surprised to see you here."

I just stood still without turning to the person who just talked. I already sensed his magical energy earlier and at this moment, I can say that my day won't be as good as I wanted. After deciding not to see him, I ended up seeing him after all.

Look at my luck decreasing by the day.

"Should I be surprised to know that you are fully cooperating with our deal?" I sarcastically asked after he stood beside me, still maintaining his distance from me who could hurt him anytime.

"About that..." The headmaster, Gordon, a man in his 60's, and his facial hair that ends around his knee stood properly beside me while looking at the same view where the raid yesterday happened. "You will be unable to get information and permit to go out on your first month here. You see, some of the school officials are wary of the five of you since one of them got to see a glimpse of your magical energy."

"They're wary about me?" I sneered. The word doesn't suit those old official board members.

"Not only you but the five of you." He corrected.

I shook my head at the ridiculous things that they are being wary about. "Aren't they trusting you? You pulled me into this school in the first place so they should've known that we're trustworthy."

"They do trust me but they don't trust you." A vein popped visible on my head at what he said. Those oldies are getting me annoyed. Although it's just a natural thing to happen. "They even said that I was under your power which was a big nonsense. It's a good thing that the prince of Haco helped me to prove them wrong."

A question mark popped into my head. "Prince of Haco?" I repeated.

The headmaster nodded. "Yes. The first to the throne after King Jonathan. The next King in the Kingdom of Haco." He explained. "Back to what we were talking about, the things that you've asked me for in exchange for your presence in this school will be permitted by the next month."

"Next month?" What the hell? "Not the next three weeks?"

"Yes. The first week is excluded as the majority of the officials agreed on. They wanted to see if you are really their ally or someone that they can trust."

I heavily sighed at what he said. "Can't you just tell them the truth?" These things are bringing me nothing but negatives.

He looked at me with his furrowed eyebrows. Completely confused. "What truth? Which one, to be exact."

I facepalmed. Now he's making me remember all the truth that I need to hide just for the goal that I've set with the four but he got a point. Which truth should he tell the school officials to make our research faster?

I stayed silent for a few minutes. I even heard a crow saying 'caw caw caw' up in the sky. Looks like even the bird is tired of waiting for my answer. Surrendering, my shoulders dropped and I shook my head.

"You know what? Never mind. We'll just wait for a month." We'll just focus on gathering inside the institute instead.

"If you say so."

"And by the way." I turned my head to him and he was looking at the wall that was destroyed yesterday that they managed to fix. "Who is that Price of Haco that you've just said earlier?"

"Marrying a prince next to the tone won't do you good, Violet."

"Saying those kinds of things won't do you good, old man." I retorted. "You're already old enough yet you still put an issue on every female who asks for a name of a guy? How helpless are you?"

The headmaster smiled awkwardly. Why? Did I hit the bullseye?

"Just so you know, almost all the kingdom who allies with our school have the representative here." He said and this time, he looked at my face which is wrapped in bandages.

"And that remaining one..." I felt my heart beating so fast when I get an idea of what kingdom he was referring to. "... I am doing my best to prevent having one of their representatives come. You can rest assured that no one will bother you with your companions in your goal or if you suddenly had a sudden change in your decisions, tell me."

One of the last things he said made me breathe heavily. I am not really assured by the thing that he said.

Althea may be a wide and rich institution but that kingdom shouldn't be underestimated.

They have the longest-lasting king and queen in history plus they have a reliable prince and princess next to the throne as well as their children who obviously have the skill and talent to possess the same thing as their parents.

But uh, there's always an exception to everything.

"I heard that they will pass the throne to the prince next year." The headmaster said. "Are you going to the ceremony? As well as the party?"

I just stood there quietly. I didn't bother to answer his question and after a long and silent time passed, he finally went away, leaving me at the place where I first engaged in a battle as a student and an s-class of Althea.

I was about to turn back when I suddenly remember something. I stood frozen in my place as my anger slowly increase.

That headmaster named Gordon... He didn't answer my question on who was the representative of the Kingdom of Haco! And more importantly, I didn't get to ask about the other kingdoms as well since he suddenly brought up a kingdom that was close to my real self.

Ahh...

I moved my head left and right as it creates a cracking sound. I also cracked my knuckles and I can feel that my anger isn't even going down. Headmaster Gordon... You will have that time when you'll regret avoiding my questions. Just you wait.
