As I make my way back to the entrance of the guild, I encounter a commotion involving a wealthy looking merchant and his young demi-human slaves. One young boy, and the other a girl appearing to be his older sister. It seems, the younger one dropped some of the items he was moving from the merchant's cart, and one of them broke. Among the chatter and whispers, I manage to pick up a different language spoken by two conspicuous looking people in black robes.
"Lenar esk caltptir monest irb," One of them says.
I think the language is Elvish. But what's more surprising is that I can understand it without the help of a translation stone. I believe she just said "We should just kill the bastard,"
[Inter-species translation has been activated]
I guess it's thanks to the tato system then. Come to think of it, even the language I've been speaking and understanding all this while- it isn't a language I've heard of on earth. Which means the tato system helped as soon as I arrived.
"No, we can't draw any attention to ourselves,"
"So what? We just leave those poor children to their fate at the had of that filth?!"
"I know it's hard. But we can't interfere right now."
They seem to be really bothered by this scene of human wickedness. I wonder who they are to be sneaking around like this, that they can't help even if they want to. Should I step in?
But before I can, a young man steps forward and stops the merchant from striking the demi-human children any further.
"What seems to be the problem?"
Judging by the way he's dressed. He looks like he's got to be a noble. Also, the fact that guards are secretly following him and keeping their distance to ensure his safety means he's a fairly high ranking one at that.
"And who are you? Stay out of this. This is an issue between me and my slaves!"
"Then allow me to aid in resolving the issue,"
"Are you going to pay for the expensive vase this imbecile just broke?"
"Very well. How much is it?"
"Are you for real? For these low born trash?"
"Yes. Now tell me how much?"
Oh? Seems we have an uncharacteristically righteous noble in our midst. I should probably keep a mental note of him.
I leave the gathered throng of people watching the commotion, and continue towards the guild. This guy may just be useful to me. I wonder what noble family he belongs to.
I finally reach the guild. The sun will set in a few hours so I better wrap this up, I'm a bit tired.
Again, people stare at me as I make my way to the help desk, but this time it's because I look younger than I actually am.
"Are you lost kid?"
"Perhaps he's looking for his mother?"
A few rude adventurer snicker as I pass by them. I just ignore them and turn to the lady standing by and ask
"How do I become an adventurer?"
She looks at me awkwardly before asking,
"You want to be an adventurer?"
"Is there a rule stating I can't become an adventurer at this age?"
"Huh? Oh no. It's just, monsters are stronger than you think. You need a sturdy body and excellent skills. Why not wait a few years?"
To answer her question, I just pull out the monster materials and carcasses I hunted in Ingal forest. Three level 17 Horned Wolves, one level 14 Reaper Hound, and thirteen level 10 flash rabbits.
Everyone in the guild burst into whispers and gasps as they looked at the prey I'd hunted.
"Um... J-Just provide identification and write down your information here,"
I do as she says, and show her my newly obtained identification papers, and scribble down my information on the papers she provides.
"All good. Now just place your hand on the measuring tool by your side and we'll identify you're level and class."
I figured as much. I can't have them recognizing my current level. They'd be suspicious if they found out a teenager was already at level 80 when the accumulative average level of everyone in this room is about 30. I'd just be drawing too much unwanted attention to myself.
Luckily, I found out earlier that it is possible for me to constrict the amount of magical power that seeps out from me, so the orb used to measure the levels of adventurers should read as...
"Level 51!"
Oh. It came out a few levels higher than I had anticipated but this should be okay. Now I shouldn't draw as much attention to-
"Whoa! Gold class already?!
"You're kidding!"
"You can't be serious!"
"This kid?! He's a Gold rank adventurer?!"
"What has he been eating that gave him that kind of ridiculous level?!"
"Is he actually a nobleman's son?!"
"Maybe? But then why is he dressed like a backwater peasant?!"
Huh?!- Okay hold up, that was actually kind of hurtful. Peasant?! I paid six silver coins for this clothes!- But back to reality. What's going on? Why are they making such a big deal out of gold class? Isn't gold class just level 36 to about level 55? I get it's a bit higher than most of them here but...
"My... I'm so sorry. I didn't realize you were this strong. My apologies."
Huh?! Strong? I mean, yeah level 51 is pretty high, but why are they treating me like I'm some Mithril level adventurer. In Kingdom Crawlers, you only gained this level of respect if you were in Adamantium class and above. But I'm just in Gold.
And come to think of it. Why is the average level of all of the adventurers in here just 30? Why are so many of them low leveled. From the way they're acting, I'd say there's a difference between our perspective of levels. I'd say, probably one level in Kingdom Crawlers is equivalent to two levels here. Which means when I see level 51, to them they're probably seeing level 102, which would make more sense to me, given their sudden show of respect.
I guess it sort of makes sense if I assume Net adjusted the leveling system for the game. It sounds probable since Kingdom Crawlers was voted as the most difficult game to level up in. Leveling up once you'd past level 20 usually started to take days, and weeks even. And then from level 40 it started taking from months. And from 100 upwards it started taking years.
But one would assume it would be harder to level up in real life with all the dangers, compared to a game. Is it something Net did for the sake of finding a champion? Wait, so that means my actual level 80, is actually level 160 to them? My job just keeps getting easier and easier by the hour. I almost feel like I'm cheating.
"Here you are. Your Gold tag, adventurer's badge, and gate pass."
"Mn. Thanks."
"Would you like to sell us the materials you brought in?"
"Yes please,"
"Okay... Everything comes up to 15 gold coins. Thank you for your service."
"No problem,"
Really, it was absolutely no problem. You guys are just very weak.
"You can come in and look at the quest board whenever you want to perform a quest,"
"Got it. Thanks."
I leave the guild as soon as I'm done and tuck the tag into my inner shirt. I don't need everyone gawking at me as I pass.
So far, I think I've come to understand this new world a bit better now. It's only day one. Tomorrow is another big step. Maybe I should have asked for directions to the school? I'm sure I'll find it somehow. For now, I need to find a place to stay permanently. I guess I'll do that tomorrow as well. Right now I'm beat. It's been a while since I attended school. Since I was in middle school I think. I didn't get the chance to attend high school for several reasons. I guess this will be a new learning experience. I'm a bit excited.
