Chapter 70 - I’m Really Back

The steel door heaves open and two hefty men walk into my cell. One carries a tray and the other has a rifle.

The guard points the rifle at my head as the other one comes closer.

The tray of yuck is thrown on the floor in front of me. Do they expect me to be able to eat with these cuffs on my hands?

"Eat up, prisoner," the one with the rifle says. I look at them confused.

"What am I supposed to eat with? My feet," I ask sarcastically. The guards start growling. "You know what? I'm not even hungry."

The guard picks up the tray of food and grabs a hand full of slop in his hand and brings it up to my face.

"Prisoners eat whatever we give them. You are not an exception," he growls at me, his hot, wolf breath hitting my face.

"I'd rather not eat than eat that shit and throw up." My defiance only seems to anger them more and he comes closer and smooshes the food on my face.

My unchained legs go up on instinct and kicks the guard. My face is covered in nasty slop and the guard I kicked lays on the ground.

The guard with the rifle shoots a bullet, but it misses me by an inch when I move out of the way.

"What the hell is you're problem?! Why are you shooting at me," I ask in disbelief. I would probably be dead right now if I hadn't known how to dodge bullets.

I thank my dad for that lesson.

The guard on the floor stands up and the guard with the rifle speaks.

"Eat your damn food and there won't be a need to shoot you," he snarls at me.

"Well, seeing as you just tried to shoot me while I was hand cuffed to the wall, and missed, I think I'll be fine," I tell him with a smile.

"That's it!" The guard with the rifle comes closer to me and looks about ready to bash me in the head with the rifle.

I wish these cuffs would just fall off. I watch as the guard raises the gun and I see the bottom coming down towards my head.

I close my eyes, not wanting to see my own concussion about to hit me. That's when I feel my chains break and I'm dropped to the ground.

"Holy shit," I hear one of the guards yell in surprise. I open my eyes and see I'm on the floor.

"How did I-" I start whispering to myself, but the first guard comes hurdling in my direction, trying to detain me again.

I get up onto my feet and kick him in the stomach, sending him into the stone wall. I can hear his back crack from the force.

He recovers quickly and tries running to me again.

"Stay out of the way! I'm going to shoot the little witch," the guard with the rifle announces.

Did he just call me small?!

He shoots bullets in my direction and my first instinct is to move out of the way, but I stay still to try something out.

I focus and the guards look at me like I'm insane, but once I'm completely focused, the bullets freeze in mid air.

If I hadn't learned undetectable magic, I'd probably be dead and handcuffed to the wall right now.

I just found out about this kind of magic, but it has been way more useful than any other magic.

"I bet you regret calling me little now," I mumble to the guy with the rifle. His mouth drops in awe as he sees the bullets frozen in mid air.

I focus on my thoughts and the bullets go racing back towards him. They pierce him in multiple places, but nothing too major to where he'll die.

"Witch," the other guard yells as he sees the unconscious guard.

"Well, that's what I am. What did you expect," I ask him. His eyes widen in horror as he watches me come closer to him.

"Please, don't hurt me! I'll let you go. I'll just lay here and I won't tell anyone what happened," he says.

I try not to laugh at his petrified expression. It's hard to keep it in and I laugh in his face.

"Do you know what kind of people I hate more than asshole," I ask him. He shakes his head in fear.

"I d-don't believe I do," he stutters.

"I hate cowards." I grab him by the shirt and throw him to the floor. I step on his back and grab his right arm backwards. He screams out in pain.

The steel door groans open and I keep my foot on his back as I turn to see who's there.

Gianna walks in with Kora, the representative for vampires, and some more guards.

"You can let him go now, Anne," Gianna says. At first, I thought of finishing off the job, but I drop his arm and step off his back.

"Do you plan on just keeping me locked up in here," I ask them.

"If it were up to my brother, you'd be dead right now," Gianna says. "But, we're giving you a fair trial."

"And when will that be? In four months? Do you really expect me to stay in here that long?"

I don't have time for this. There are bigger problems we have to solve. If Gianna really wants to avenge her father, she should let me go.

"No, we'll be doing the trial as soon as possible. We'll be doing it tomorrow. Your trial will determine Chris, Jaisley, and Hanna's fate as well. If you lose this trial, you'll all be locked away for as long as the jury decides," Kora tells me.

"Great, now I have to find a way to show everyone I'm innocent. This is a waste of time." I breathe out an irritated sigh.

"You don't have to do it alone. You can get an attorney or someone to help with your case," Kora tells.

I think about it, but shake my head no.

"I'll do it myself. There's no one that'll possibly be on my side if they think I'm a murderer."

"Then, let's get going," Kora says and they start walking out of the door. The guards wait for me to follow.

"Where are we going," I ask. I walk through the halls of the prison and follow them.

"Since we can't keep you locked up because you can easily just break out and attack the guards, you might as well go home," Gianna says.

We walk up a flight of stairs and I can't hide my surprise.

"Really?" I won't believe them yet. They could be walking me to my execution right now.

They stop in front of a door and one of the guards open it. My dad stands inside, waiting for me.

"Go home and prepare for tomorrow." I forget about why I'm here and ignore the last thing that Kora says, and I race towards my dad.

He pulls me into a big, warm hug.

I really am back.
