Chapter 65 - Of Course She’s Not Dead

(Jaisley's POV)

"So, where are we going? Where should we even look," Hanna asks me.

I look around the airport of Berlin, trying to figure out what to do next. There's really no possible way of tracking her now. She didn't leave any info of where she'd be staying in Berlin and I can't catch her scent anywhere.

"Do you have any ideas," I ask Hanna. She stays silent, but I can tell she's about ready to pull out her hair.

"Hanna, calm down. We'll find her," I reassure her. She closes her eyes and breathes out a sigh.

"Okay. Maybe we should look at the letter again for any clues," she says.

"I already tried. There was nothing in there that could help us."

"Then let's walk the streets, try to find anything. Maybe even a scent." I decide to just go with Hanna's plan.

It's dark outside, but not hard to navigate due to my vamp eyes. Still, I don't know which direction to go.

"I say we follow the smell of food," Hanna says. I can hear her mind drifting off already. She's distracted and heading into a different direction.

"These are the times I remember she's a greedy wolf," I whisper under my breath and follow behind her. There's no point in stopping her once she's set her mind on food. Plus, I don't have the heart to deny her food.

"I smell pizza. Isn't there a huge population of Italians that live here? I bet they have authentic pizza. That would be awesome." Her eyes widen at the thought of having authentic pizza.

"Do you know where you're going? I don't want to get led into a ditch just because you smell pizza." She turns to look at me, pouting.

"You're not afraid of ditches. You're a vampire," she whispers.

She turns back around only to see that she's led us into an alley.

"That's it, Hanna. You're not eating pizza from a garbage bin," I scold her.

"It's not in the garage bin. I wouldn't eat that," she says, rolling her eyes. I don't totally believe her. "The smell lingers right here. It just stops. I can't track it farther."

I see a dark figure pop up behind Hanna and grab for her arm. I rush over and push the figure into the alley wall and growl.

"Don't. Touch. Her." The person struggles as I choke them. I'm seconds away from draining them of blood for trying to touch my mate.

"Wait, Jaisley. Don't choke him," I hear Hanna say. I drop him out of my hold in an instant to make her happy. "Who are you," she asks him. I'd been too angry to notice all the details of the figure.

Blonde hair. Blue eyes. Male. Tall, but not extremely built. An easy kill.

He holds his hands up in defense and tries to catch his breath. One of his hands hold a slice of warm pizza.

"I'm a friend of Anne's. My name's Ben."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

"I told you they would attack you. You have to stop grabbing people in alleys," a girl named Emilia says.

Ben brought us to this bar and introduced us to his family. Emilia, Lina, and Cassandra. Emilia is a fiery little girl, her grandma Lina is sitting in a chair while Cassandra is putting some tree sap on a wound and wrapping it.

"What happened here," I ask them. I can smell spilled blood all over the floors. It's been cleaned up, but the scent is still there.

"A planned break in. There must've been a spy in our group that told the government our plans. They tried to kill me and they took Anne," Lina says.

"You let them take Luna." I can feel my mood shifting as I see how Hanna's eyes are turning hazel. She's close to shifting into her werewolf form just to find her luna.

It doesn't affect me as much as it affects Hanna because I'm a vampire. I'm only connected to the pack through Hanna. I'm only upset because Hanna's upset. I can feel when her mood changes and it affects mine.

Anne is not officially luna and I'm not even sure if she really is luna, but Hanna already seems to have an overprotectiveness over Anne. She already sees Anne as her leader.

"Hanna, you have to think smart about this. We can't just go running into something we have no knowledge of. They know more than we do," I whisper to her. Her eyes go back to their normal color and I feel her calm down.

"Do you guys have at least any leads as to where she is," Hanna asks.

"We could do a location spell, but we would still have to get everyone ready for battle. We don't know who our spy is. That'll risk us getting sneak attacked again," Ben says.

"How did you know to find us anyways," I ask him.

"I found pictures of you guys in Anne's wallet when I first kidnapped her in the alley awhile ago. I made sure to always keep tabs on everyone she was connected to. When you guys landed here, I got a signal," he answers me.

"She has photos of us in her wallet," Hanna asks, shocked.

"She probably missed you guys," Emilia says. "She kept you close through photos. Even had descriptions of the things you like on the back. That's how Ben knew to lure you in with pizza."

"Why can't we just-" I begin my sentence, but I'm cut off when we all hear crying.

"Angie must be up from her nap," Cassandra says and she walks down a set of stairs, disappearing.

"I want to help," Emilia says, running after Cassandra.

"Anne had the baby," I ask, quietly. Ben nods his head.

"I thought she didn't tell anyone she was pregnant," Ben says.

"Found the ultrasound pictures," Hanna tells him. I start walking over to the stairs and go down, following the sound of the crying baby.

Cassandra is inside the room, rocking the baby girl. She's beautiful and I can't tell if she looks more like her mom or dad.

I step in more into the room, getting closer to the little girl. She lifts her head and her eyes set on me.

"Can I hold her," I ask, hushed. Cassandra nods her head and hands me her. The baby coos once she's in my arms.

I tickle her sides and she stops crying, laughing instead. I can she all her gums as she grins wide.

Alaric is going to fall in love once he sees her.

"You're great with babies. Do you have a kid," Emilia asks, sitting on the bed.

"Yeah, I used to have a baby boy. That was when I was human," I tell the little girl as I play with Angie.

"What happened to him," she asks. I smiled at her.

"Nothing happened to him. He just grew up and had a nice life," I answer, trying to keep myself from frowning.

"Emi, can you got to the indoor garden and collect some more sap for me. I'll have to use it on your grandma later," Cassandra says. Emilia pouts her mouth, but obeys and leaves the room.

"Sorry about Emi. She gets curious sometimes and forgets people have feelings. I saw you didn't really want to talk about it."

"No, it's okay. It was a long time ago. Two centuries to be exact." I walk over to the crib with Angie now sleeping in my arms. I set her down inside it and stand awkwardly in the room.

"Doesn't mean it hurts any less, whatever happened to him. Being supernatural means your emotions are heightened. We hurt longer," she says.

"Nothing bad happened. I mourned more for myself. It's selfish," I tell her, shaking my head.

"What do you mean?" I breathe out a sigh and sit on the bed next to her.

"I mourned over a life I couldn't have anymore for two centuries. I had the best life I could ever ask for. I was born into a wealthy family, I had a baby at sixteen, but my parents were supportive of me. They only asked that I got married to the father of my child, which I did. He was a great father and husband."

"So, what ended all of that," Cassandra asks. "If you don't mind me asking."

"One day, I was walking back home at night after getting groceries.I was robbed and killed. I don't know who turned me, but I woke back up from the dead, killed a lot of people because I was thirsty for blood, and by the time I snapped back into my senses, I realized I was different and I wouldn't be able to have the life I wanted anymore."

"I watched from afar as my family mourned me. My son was only two years old. Eventually, they all moved on, but they all supported each other for my sake. They all lived happy lives. I watched my husband and parents die. I watched my son grow, have children, get married, and grow old. They all lived happily like I wanted, but I still mourned my own life that I didn't get to live."

"You don't seem so bad now," she says and I chuckle.

"Well yeah. I stopped mourning my old life when I met my new life. Hanna. Of course I know we won't have kids of our own and I won't grow old, but I love her and I'd do anything for her."

Someone knocks at the door, ending our conversation. Hanna peaks her head in.

"Ben asked if you could help him track Anne with a spell. It'll help locate wherever they keep all their prisoners. He said you guys can set up a plan from there," Hanna says, walking in.

"I'll go prep my mixes and herbs," Cassandra says, getting off the bed and leaving the room.

Hanna walks slowly over to me. She sits on my lap, straddling me, and wraps her arms around my neck. She hides her head in my chest.

"Are you ok," she whispers.

"You eavesdropped, didn't you?" She doesn't say anything and I take that as a yes. "I'm better now that you're here," I tell her.

She lifts her head up so that she's looking me in the eye.

"Do you want kids? Do you miss having a husband? Am I not enough family for you? Do you miss your parents?" I look at her in disbelief.

"Hanna, you're more than enough for me. You're my family and I wouldn't ask for it to be any other way. I'm done mourning."

I kiss her all over her face until she starts to giggle.

"You know, we could always adopt," she says to me.

"You just graduated high school. You don't have to think about kids right now," I tell her, playing with her hair.

On the inside, I'm jumping for joy at the thought of having children with Hanna. I find myself smiling.

"Would you really want to adopt? In the future," I ask shyly.

"Yeah. If it would make you happy."

I hear footsteps coming back downstairs and Hanna hops off my lap. Emilia walks into the room.

"Guys, come upstairs," she rushes us. I look over to see Hanna has the same confused expression as me.

We race upstairs only to see a huge crowd of people.

"Who are all these people," Hanna asks. They're all wearing the same black and white striped prison uniforms. They all seem antsy.

I look through the crowd, observing. Trying to find out anything. I listen in close to different conversations.

I spot Ben by the door, carrying someone in. The figure looks very familiar.

"Anne," I hear Hanna say as she runs over to where Ben is. I move through the crowd, getting over to Ben.

Anne's unconscious, but she doesn't look hurt. There's blood all over her, but none of it is her own.

"She's fine. She'll wake up soon," Ben says smiling. Hanna and I smile too.

Of course she's okay. Anne is unstoppable. Nothing could possibly kill her.

She always finds her way back.
