(Donaghy's POV)
"Great. Now my phone is dead."
Everything that would have gone wrong on this journey, has gone wrong. My phones dead, so I have no way to contact Alaric or anyone for that matter, the car's air conditioner stopped working and it's smoldering hot outside, I haven't eaten anything in a couple of days, and I feel really sick.
I'm in the middle of nowhere and I'm relying on only my instincts at this point.
"Ugh, I'm so hungry." As I'm driving, I spot a deer in the forest from the side of the road. There's nothing but empty road ahead and the deep forests on both sides of the road.
No, I shouldn't. I shouldn't even think of doing something so cruel.
I watch the deer prance around slowly, as if it's begging for me to come and get it.
Fine. I will come and get you since you're asking for it.
I stop the car on the side of the road, obeying my animal instincts. I can't stop my wolf from jumping out of the car and chasing after the deer. I shift in mid air and run after the poor deer.
It has no chance of surviving. I'm going to devour it down to the bone. In a blink of an eye, I attack it like the animal I am. I tear it apart with no remorse. My wolf is thankful for this meal he has finally found. He was starving.
I black out as my wolf fills his belly. I can feel the blood dripping down my chin. I switch back once he's done and satisfied. I'm completely naked, my clothes ripped to shreds. There's no one close by to see. I walk back to my car absentmindedly, not caring if anyone sees me naked or covered in blood.
I change into a new set of clothes and try my best to wipe off my face, but I know it's still stained with blood.
Maybe now I can focus better. I shouldn't have even wasted time with eating. Chris probably hasn't eaten longer than me. I'm so selfish.
I try starting my car, but when it doesn't start up, I know something is wrong.
"Crap!" I try to start my car a couple more times, turning the key to crank up the car. It goes dead every time before the ignition can start.
My car mocks me as if saying this is my karma for eating the deer.
"Damn it!" I slam my fist on the steering wheel, accidently hitting the horn. No one is close enough to hear it. I'm in the middle of nowhere and there's no telling when the next car will pass by.
I get out of the useless car and start walking down the road. I'm not sure where I'm going anymore and this is all just a waste of time.
I've already been through ten states with the biggest population of supernaturals and no one has been willing to help me. It seems Giovanni has been spreading his influential power already. No one will dare stand up against him.
I feel dizzy with a fever and I know it has to be my connection to Chris. She must be sick in the cell they've put her in. I'm going to kill those bastards once I find a way to get her out.
I'll never forgive myself for what I have allowed them to do to her. I should've been stronger. Resisted more to the powers of Giovanni. I shouldn't have allowed them to force me into submission.
When I get Chris out of there, I'm never letting her out of my sight.
"Do you really mean that," I hear a voice say from behind me. I turn around fast, but there was no one behind me. The road is empty except for my presence and there's deep woods going for miles on both sides of the road.
I sniff the air, but I don't catch a scent of anyone else.
Am I finally losing my mind?
"Don't worry. You're not losing your mind. I'm here, but I won't reveal myself just yet." It's a female's voice from what I'm hearing. Her voice sounds sweet like sugar and it could draw any person in. Man or female. It's addicting and it doesn't matter if I trust her or not. I feel the need to listen to her.
"Who are you," I ask the voice. Gusts of wind flow around me. Before there was only still air.
"Are you willing to do anything to save your mate?"
Must be a witch. No vampire or werewolf would be able to hold this much power. It's like she's reading my mind and she's doing it without even having to be present and in front of me.
But why is she asking me this? Where did she come from? This can't be legitimate.
"No one else has the guts to help you. Do you really want to risk time trying to find someone more legit?" I can hear the humor in her voice. My thoughts aren't safe if she can just read them.
"Why are you asking me," I ask her. There's no point in thinking if she can just read my mind.
"I've seen you pass through a couple of states already. I can see you're starting to lose hope, so I've decided to take pity on you. I can help you get your mate back."
"But why? What's in it for you?" There's no way a witch just pops up from out of nowhere to help a wolf without wanting something in return.
"Of course. There's always a price, but aren't you willing to risk it all for your mate?"
She's right. I don't have time and I'd risk anything for Chris. Even if it means I'll die.
"Well, you've got some real spirit. You really love this Chris. So, you ready to make a deal?"
There doesn't seem to be any other option. If she says she can get my Chris back, I'll do it.
"Yes."
"Your wish is my command." The woman appears standing in front of me. I don't know what century she's living in, but she's dressed like some pirate. Maybe even a gypsy.
"Sorry for the outdated wear. It adds more to my character. The name's Sybil." She holds out her hand for me to shake.
