Chapter 43 - Kidnappers

"Why did you bring her here?!"

"You would prefer I let them kill her?"

My body feels heavy. My body is paralyzed, but it's not the same feeling that I had when the rogues kidnapped me back in New York.

This is more of a warm, magical feeling. This humming feeling runs through me from my toes and up to my skull. My body tingles, but it's a good tingle.

"Yes. I would have prefered that. We don't know this woman and your risking our lives for her."

"Would you be saying the same thing if she was Davina?" The other person stays silent. "Exactly. Mama, she's pregnant and she doesn't know the laws in Berlin."

"You keep me and your siblings out of this. If anything happens, it's on you." The woman walks out of the room and the door closes behind her.

I hear the other person walk closer to where I'm laying and I pause my breathing, waiting to see what they do.

"I know you're awake. No need to pretend," the man with the German accent speaks and I open my eyes to take a peek at my surroundings.

At first everything is blurry, but once my vision focuses, I see a tiny room. The small space is mostly empty, except for the bed I'm on, a small dresser at the side of the bed, and the man standing a couple of feet from me.

The room is very bland, only being filled with neutral colors of brown and beige. The dust around me makes my nose feel stuffy.

My attention turns to the man in the room when he shifts over to the dresser and picks up a tea kettle, pouring some of its contents into a small cup.

The man is very tall and bulky. His arms flex when he picks up the tea kettle and his thick eyebrows seems focused as he pours. His jaw is strong and his lips are full.

I pause on my examination and search for my knives while he's distracted.

"Your knives are in the other room. You won't be needing them, I promise." I look up to see that he's standing over me, holding out a cup of tea to me. I sit myself up on the bed and ignore the cup in his hands that he's offering me.

"It's not poisoned," he says, his blue eyes reminding me of Tarry. The only difference is that Tarry has softer eyes and this man has piercing ones. It's hard to ignore his stare.

Plus, his blond hair isn't as fluffy as Tarry's blond hair.

"Of course it isn't," I answer sarcastically. I wasn't trusting some guy that knocked me out in an alley. I'm just searching for my escape.

"There's no escapes, Anne," he says and I look up at him. Can he read my mind or something?

"How do you know my name?"

"Your passport. Listen, I know you don't trust me, but I'm trying to help you. My name's Ben. " I get up from the bed quickly, feeling dizzy at first.

"Woah, you shouldn't get up so fast." This Ben guy tries to help me balance on my feet, but I use it to my advantage and take him by surprise. I take his arm and flip him onto his back, slamming his head onto the floor. He groans in pain and I make a run for the door.

I don't know what's on the other side of the door, but there's no time for a plan. I run out the door and it opens to a little living room. The whole house is very small and I can see the front door in my line of vision.

When I almost reach, a pulling power stops me.

"Your not going anywhere," I woman says from behind me. She's nowhere near me and no one's holding onto me, but a powerful force pulls me back.

Ugh, magic!

"Mama, let her go. You'll only make her feel more threatened." The power lets me go and I grab a nearby vase and hold it up as a weapon and turn to look at my kidnappers.

"Stay the hell away from me," I tell the older woman. Ben sits on the couch in the living room rubbing the back of his head and the short lady sends me a glare.

"I told you this was a bad idea, son! Maybe that knock to the head will do you some good. This woman is just begging to be killed." I almost laugh at the manner that the lady talks to her son, but I remember they're my kidnappers.

"We have to help her understand Mama. There are serious laws here and she needs to know them before going off. I promise you can go once you allow me to talk to you," he directs the last sentence to me.

"I'll be in the kitchen. You can knock him on his head how many times you like because he's obviously lost his mind." The lady walks off and my attention focuses on Ben.

"Fine, I'll listen, but I won't hesitate to kill you," I tell him. I don't fight back because I don't have the energy to, but he doesn't need to know I feel weak.

He gestures that I can sit on the couch opposite to him and I don't hesitate to sit down.

"What do you have to say Benny Boy," I ask him and he goes straight into business.
