Chapter 15 - Plots and Memories

"Host?"

Halfsie observed its host who didn't seem to react much after accepting the plot. She only reached out for her mug and began enjoying her warm drink. The furball could only watch and wait for her to finish. It has to admit, the host's movements are pleasant to watch. She looked so refined that Halfsie couldn't connect the current her from the brute from before.

[Is this how the host normally acts?]

The way she moves is completely different from her actions within the space, which only included lying down, sitting up, and beating the shit out of it.

Eve closed her eyes and savored the perfect blend of milk and espresso in her mouth. Somehow, she began to appreciate the rich flavor of milk in this life. She attributed such a situation to her current age then decided to hoard some for her to enjoy.

She unhurriedly dabbed a napkin on her lips to rid of any stain. After doing so, she finally replied.

( Halfsie, is it possible to meet my sister's mother right now?)

( Mother Qin? Why? )

[Shouldn't the host focus on the target, her half-sister?]

Halfsie wondered.

( I just wanted to have a heart to heart talk.) She tucked some unruly hair behind her ear and continued in her mind,

[A heart to heart talk between my foot and her throat.]

After receiving the memory, Eve only wanted to do one thing and that is to torture that woman. The treacherous culprit who caused her host body's death. She rolled her eyes once again when she recalled the shittiest plot she has ever seen.

Evangeline Tang.

That's her current identity. She is the only child of the Tang family. Distant, indifferent and obviously lacking in the EQ department. However, it seems that to compensate for her emotional deficiency, her intellectual aspect has gained some more. Sadly, such an advantage made her unable to comprehend the people around her and found it challenging to integrate properly with her peers. In the end, Evangeline was perceived to be detached and difficult to approach.

Eve, on the other hand, thinks she's just an awkward little girl who doesn't know how to express herself.

Even so, Evangeline is considered a lucky one. She is rich as hell and heavily doted by the two males of the Tang family, her Dad, and Grandpa. Overall, her life would have been smooth sailing regardless of her deficient side. Yet everything changed when the plot twists named Hemiura and Halesia Qin arrived.

One night, the mother-daughter duo went to the Tang Family to seek aid. Needless to say, what followed was the intense heart-rending drama Mother Qin, aka Hemiura Qin, performed. The gist was that she didn't plan the incident between her and Sylvius Tang, her dad. She was also a victim, blah, blah. Then was scared and went to hide, blah, blah. She then added some distressing words that perfectly emphasized how sorry and innocent she was. Then almost cried a river saying she didn't want to ruin the newly-wedded then, Sylvius and Lilian, her mom.

Just from that acting skills, Eve can already sense how cunning of a b*tch this woman is.

The two morally upright men then chose to accept the mother-daughter pair after proving her claim. After all, they value family ties the most especially when they've experienced losing their wives and children. Evangeline on the other hand did not mind. Apart from not being against the new "family members", she also looked forward to having a sister. She thought that having a girl around her age might help with learning the so-called emotions.

After years of Oscar-worthy acting by Mother Qin, the lonely Sylvius was finally moved. Thereafter, she successfully bears an heir and enabled her to enact the second part of her plan. Now that her scheming ass was loaded with money, getting things done was smooth as butter. She then hired someone to stage an accident that killed the Tang father and son. She didn't kill Evangeline only because of the remaining shares on her name. Not to mention, killing them three in one go is too suspicious. Hence as the wise strategist that she was, she found another way to eliminate the Tang princess.

This time, Evangeline was not unfeeling as before. Through the years, she has learned how to feel certain emotions. She especially learned a sense of dissatisfaction whenever people compare her and Halesia. Despite that, she didn't reprimand them and chose to keep silent. Inwardly she feels frustrated whenever she recalls that horrified look Halesia had back then. The unintentional "You're like a monster." comment she had about Evangeline's gift, made the already awkward girl doubt her ability and sense of self.

In spite of that, she continued to learn how to appreciate and reciprocate other people's feelings to the best of her ability. That is why when the news of her dad and grandpa's passing reached her, she was devastated. The only people who truly loved her have left her forever. Such an impact made her fall into depression. The stepmom and sister did their best to help her. They comforted her and made sure she gets the medical attention she needed. When stepmom Qin finally duped Evangeline's shares with a conservatorship, she stopped playing the good mother card. After that, she switched her meds and watched her condition deteriorate.

In the end, Evangeline killed herself at the age of 20.

Her good sister Halesia was so inspired by her death that she published a book about how badly she felt after losing her. Of course, some parts about not killing yourself and seek medical consult was also added for extra effect. The tearjerker book moved many people and skyrocketed her to fame. Finally, she spends her life in the limelight as the "national sister" who advocates mental health movements. It goes without saying that her high-key identity as the only princess of the Tang family also played a part.

Her mother, the queen dowager of Tang Enterprise, Hemiura Tang was also glorified as an exemplary mother and businesswoman.

And then, the two beautiful women lived in prosperity and fame all their lives.

The end.

Eve has a lot of questions regarding the "memory" she received. Before she could ask Halfsie about it, the furball's voice rang again.

( Host, this time you have an extra task.)

(Extra task? Why am I only hearing this now?) Eve was a little unhappy regarding the new task she heard. She contemplates if this is a prelude to unending extra work in the future.

( Well host, I also just knew this today.) The furball scrutinized the prompt that popped into its mind. It didn't know they have such a function.

Remembering the one-phrase content of the system manual, Halfsie began to understand the host's contempt for it.

( Okay. Tell me.)

( The task is to fulfill the lifelong regret of the host body, which is to protect and cherish her family.)

( What's in it for me?)

( If you complete the task, you will inherit her innate skill which is Eidetic Memory. This skill will stay with you even after leaving the mission world.)

( What if I chose not to?)

She's here to corrupt souls, why should she be cherishing people now? Is what Eve felt about the new errand. In case she'll be punished after declining, she might look for a way to somehow deal with it.

(There's no consequence, host. It's optional whether or not you want to accept it.)

( Got it. I'll think about it.) She cupped her chin and began twirling her hair around her finger as she considers the job.

[ Protecting them is one thing, cherishing is another.]

Having a photographic memory is indeed enticing. Still, she didn't want to play family with people she only just met. Eve originally planned to maintain the host body's former image as she warps her half-sister. Additionally, she does not know if the family members deserved such treatment from her. She's not the real Evangeline Tang after all.

( Host, do you have any questions regarding the plot?) The furball broke the silence.

( Funny you asked because I do have a lot.)

Eve once again sat straight with both her arms across her chest. She looks like a supervisor ready to crucify her subordinate.

The furry ball choked and thought back if there's a possibility the host knew of its sneak attack on her body.

( First, where is my mother?)

The plot did not even mention her mother. If she did not receive Lilian's name, she would have thought she was adopted.

In addition, she also wanted to ask why the plot did not include what happened to her brother or why it didn't mention what happened in the past. But when she realized that what she received was based on the host body's memory, she concluded that Evangeline did not know thus the memory did not include it. Therefore she can only ask Halfsie for the parts she was curious about.

( Your mother met an accident and died when you were an 8-month fetus in her womb.)

( Who killed her?)

( Let me guess, that Hemiura Qin?)

( Host, how did you know?!) The furball is amazed by its host speculation and could not help but ask.

(Do you also have a special ability to know the plot?)

[Special ability my butt.] Eve spurned.

With how shitty this dog plot drama is, she could already guess the missing information with her toes. She can also surmise that Hemiura Qin planned that "incident" with her dad. However, she can not understand one thing.

( Even if Sylvius Tang was not as powerful as he is now back then, how could that woman escape his investigation?)

Indeed, when the calculated Sylvius Tang lost control and bedded a woman, he used all his power to search for her. At that time, he is soon to get married yet such an incident happened. The thought of betraying the love of his life almost drove him insane.

( Host, Have you forgotten something?) The childish voice reminded.

Then as if enlightened by the holy spirit, she could not help but curse.

( God damn. So even as a zygote it's already protected by the Heavens?)

( Yes, host. The heavenly being is already alive by then. Certainly, her mother will not be found to protect her.)

Halfsie stated the matter of fact that a noble person is indeed heavily doted by providence.

[ Must hand it over to Mother Qin. Her ability to release an egg on time is top-notch.]

She praised the conniving woman in her mind. She thought that maybe there's a special entity that blessed her unprincipled ovaries to launch her eggs on time.

( Can I move her?)

The presence of an evil woman who's nasty to the core annoys her a lot.

( Why host?)

( Shouldn't you focus on your half-sister instead?)

The furball was intrigued by its host's insistence in dealing with the stepmother.

(Halesia has not done anything to me yet. Her mother, on the other hand, has done more than enough to warrant death.)

Eve squinted her eyes and began cracking her knuckles.

[ She calculated Evangeline's father and killed her mother.]

[ And obviously, there can only be one evil b*tch in town.]

Of course, the latter reason is what truly pisses her off but she won't tell the goofball about that. She thinks that as a villain striving to best them all, it's a matter of course she has to secure her throne.

( Well host, I think you can but you should do something else today.) Halfsie's voice seemed softer as it spoke.

(Like what?) She stopped her preparatory killer moves and asked.

(Save someone.) Its voice became even smaller.

[ Save someone?]

She's raised her brow when she heard something unexpected.

Weren't they an evil-seeding duo that transverses time and space to corrupt people? So why are they going to save people now?
