Chapter 7 - The Stranger

" You look as though I'm about to kill you. "

Her voice was gentle and the hand petting it was even more so.

The little guy seemed hypnotized by her immaculate eyes. It is clearly a being devoid of heart, so why does it feel moved? Blame it on the host's face that is better than all the angels it saw in the database. Now its logic is amiss.

" Will you, host?" It tried blinking its crimson eyes to evoke pity, shame it doesn't even have lids.

" It depends." She grinned.

Looking at the well-behaved scaredy-cat on her palm, she can't but giggle in her mind. Its horror-struck face tempts her to frighten it more. Her eyes unknowingly curved into crescents.

That squinted eyes that gazed at it made it scream inside its mind. That's the look! The look that says she wants to smite it off!

[ Host! Host! Have mercy please!]

" First, if you did something that makes me want to kill you. "

The plea it was about to utter got stuck in its imaginary throat.

[ Well I didn't do anything? ] with that thought it finally relaxed a little bit. Its non-existent butt is safe for today.

" Second, if I'm in the mood to kill you. " She glanced at the little guy who stiffened in a flash. It seems to turn into a stone.

" Third, if you can actually be killed." Watching the soot-like spider silk of its body almost crumble, she laughed out loud. She clutched her stomach as she croaked and even wiped the tears that had formed in her eyes. Then checking out the furry ball that didn't seem to recover, she spoke again.

" Little guy, I'm just teasing you. " She poked the flustered ball unceremoniously.

" Host you're such a bully!" It pointed its butt towards her, clearly refusing to look at the host. The roller coaster of emotions felt like it shortened its lifespan. It swears it won't forgive the host if she doesn't coax it well.

" Well, my bad. I'm sorry, little Halfsie." Her voice is tender and sounds so enticing that it was tempted to bestow forgiveness immediately. Well if it uses this chance wisely, maybe it could frolic itself on that exquisite face? It almost wanted to turn around already but he must persist. It must show the integrity of a system guide!

" Forgive me, hmm?" She raised her finger and softly nudge the cute creature ignoring her.

The furry ball was shaking. This time not because of fear but due to excitement.

[ The host is coaxing me!] it squealed in its mind.

" I will forgive you in one condition " the child-like voice pretentiously said.

" Say. " she turned the little guy towards her.

Halfsie almost forgot what it was about to say when it saw the host's face. Tears, from her guffaw earlier, were still gleaming on the edge of her eyes and a tiny smile hung on her lips. Its crimson eyes were almost blinded.

" Host if you let me touch your face then I will reluctantly forgive you. " It used such righteous words yet its look almost beseeching her to agree.

" Why my face?" She was curious. This little guy has been eyeing her from time to time.

[ Could it be curious about human facial characteristics?"

She thinks it's possible. After all, it's a newly formed system guide and hasn't seen any other life form besides her.

" Because host has the most beautiful appearance ever." It said earnestly.

[ No way. This guy is a total face control?] That thought is so funny.

" How could you claim that I'm the most beautiful if you haven't seen anyone else?"

" But I have seen all the pictures in the database. Host, you are more exquisite than those angels."

For Halfsie, the angels were the best-looking of all the creatures it saw in its archive.

She was almost touched by Halfsie's sincerity. If it weren't for the fact that this youngling's words lacked credibility, she would almost believe it. Well, she knew for a fact that her face value was a strong 7 with the right light and strategic angle alright.

[ But being called prettier than angels, haha it felt damn good. ]

" So host you should agree so I can forgive you already. " It reminded.

[This tiny dude is quite adamant huh. ] she was amused.

" I'll agree but also in one condition." She watched the furry ball seriously listen to her whims.

" Host, you say "

" If you tell me your favorite part and why, then I'll allow you to touch it. Okay?"

She never thought hearing compliments from an innocent creature could feel so different from those perfunctory ones. Perhaps it's the same concept that if a kid tells you you are ugly, then you're really unsightly? She thinks that's about it. Since the tiny dude likes her looks so much, might as well enjoy the praises as much as possible.

[ Yes that's right. Just want to hear, I'm not narcissistic at all.]

The furry ball then focused all its attention on her face. It didn't even realize that it was supposed to demand terms, not the other way around. Now its mind is filled with how to string the perfect words to convince her.

The little guy's absorbed look made her recognize that it is truly gullible. Now she feels like a bad adult trying to hoodwink a child.

[ What a thrilling idea.] She mused.

If it weren't for the pet-like image, maybe she'd see it as a child.

" Host, I like your eyes the most." The system interrupted her thoughts.

" Your eyes, like two golden orbs that shine, resembles the sun. They shine so brightly they can even illuminate the darkness in my heart. Your eyes so pure, so lovely I just wanna drown- "

" Okay, enough. Where did you copy such cheesy lines hmm?" She tapped the furry guy to stop it from babbling. She wanted to hear praises alright, not to be confessed to.

Can it not admit that they are from samples of poems about eyes in the storage data?

Well, it really can't hide from the host and spilled the beans.

" But host, I don't know how to make my own poems." The little guy is sad. Does this mean it can't frisk on the host's face anymore? She is always fierce, so it was quite scary to ask in the future.

[ I just wanted compliments, how did it turn to making poems? ]

She can't help but wonder why life is so complicated. Then seeing the forlorn look on its adorable creature's face, she groaned. Maybe it wants to learn how to compose poems?

[ I might as well teach him a thing or two.]

" Alright, when composing a poem to compliment someone's look, you should at least make it believable you know. " Seeing that it was all ears she added,

" For example, you mentioned golden orbs. I obviously have black eyes. So you can just say, I have obsidian orbs, like that. Understand? "

[Teaching the little guy is actually fun. Is this what it feels like to have a younger sibling?]

On the other hand, the pet that got promoted to a younger sibling was dumbfounded.

" But host, you clearly have golden eyes?" It was confused. How can the host not even know the color of her eyes?

Now it's her turn to be stupefied.

Since when did she have golden eyes? Why didn't she know?

She is wrong. What carefree? She clearly cares. At least deeply regards about her appearance. She is now anxious. What other changes happened to her? You know a girl's countenance is her greatest weapon. Even if her face is not of peerless beauty, it is still a highly needed necessity.

" Halfsie, quick lend me a mirror!" her voice agitated.

Seeing its host in such a hurry, it can only give whatever it has without much thought process.

" Host I don't have a mirror, I only have this." Out of the blue, reflective glass can be seen lying near it.

' That's obviously a mirror' look brew on her face but kept silent.

She hurriedly looks at the mirror and was silent for a long time.

Halfsie was worried when its host stopped moving nor responding to it for quite some time.

" Host?"

" Host?"

Perceiving the host's mind has wandered far away, it decided to reap the fruits of its labor. After all, it already delivered the answer so the succeeding actions are all justified. It jumped on her shoulder, scanned the still motionless host, and felt relieved. Popped a pair of tiny arms and legs to reach the host's cheek. As it was about to frolic to its heart's content it suddenly heard its host mumble,

"Who the hell?"

"Is that me?"
