She was once a very confident young lady. Attractive yet a very athletic individual that could match up to most guys looking for a fight as she is a very strong woman or was she? With her panting and heavy breathing, she closed her eyes as she look back on the day that changed her life.
It was a lovely evening. She was with the woman that meant the world to her. The loveliest person on earth as she always thought. They were out to celebrate their 6th anniversary together. They've already had their dinner and all but she still couldn't ask the one thing she had been meaning to ask ever since the daybreak of that one fine day.
"I may not be a man that can give you other things most women seek in every relationship but know that I can be more than what you can ask for. I love you and will always choose to love you no matter what happens. I may be an ass to say this but I know I can protect you unlike most guys out there. I'm very capable, you see. So Audrey, WILL YOU MARRY ME?" she has been practicing the lines all day that her girl has been worried if she was out of it and would just want to go home and call it a day.Â
They both walked solemnly in a park with the most amazing view of the city scale at night. She's slowly losing the chance to ask her as the day is closing to an end. She felt thirsty so they stopped at a bench and she went to a vending machine nearby to grab a drink.
She went back to her all pumped up and ready to ask her for her--- the drinks she held in her hand fell down the ground as little bits of sweat slowly formed her forehead as she saw the scene that filled her line of sight. There, 10 meters away from her she saw a very suspicious man rushing towards her one and only holding something in his hands that she was sure as hell it looked like a knife.
She hurried towards them without thinking and kicked the life out of the attacker but it was too late as the man had already creeped up from behind whilst the blade in his hand found its way to Audrey's neck and and slit her throat in a very gruesome manner. The men fell to the ground just as Audrey did at the same time.
She held Audrey close to her. She can no longer see how her beloved looked as blocks of tears started streaming down her eyes. She's lost, not knowing what to do. Panic and anxiety screamed down her very core. She started off by holding the open wound down while shouting to the people around asking for help.
Audrey held her face forcing a smile as tears slowly crept on the corner of her eyes "Y-yes." she tried her best to make a sound despite the overwhelming pain coming from her throat and was thankful that she still can. "I'll m-marry you" she added knowing what she had been up to until now. "Don't talk for now, love. Please, please don't do this to me. I love you. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry I-" she said while sobbing the hell out of her being. Audrey smiled once again and said in almost like a whisper the words "I ...love ...you." as the light left her beautiful eyes and closed on its own. Her hand dropped like it was never there to begin with.
She looked at her without moving an inch. Everything around her seemed to have stopped for a moment, even the tears that were rushing down her cheek seemed to have vanished. She knew. She very well knew that the girl in her arms is no longer breathing. That she would never hear Audrey's sweet voice again. Thay there is no way in hell that the she's still alive but she couldn't just accept that. After a few minutes that almost seemed like eternity, things around her started moving again, the people, the hands of her watch that Audrey gifted her. The night still carried on just like any other day like nobody's business.
It's not that time has stood still, it was her heart. It was her own world that have died that night together with her beloved that left this cruel and fucked up planet.Â
Everything around her came crashing down like a mirror shattered into pieces with just one incident that she never even thought would ever happen. She looked at the skies looking defeated and finally looked at the assailant that's currently out of commission. Unbeknownst to anyone, she was this close to twisting the neck of the man in question when two police-men arrived and pinned him down.
It has been a month since the incident. People came and went to her apartment asking for her own well-being. She couldn't look more worse with each passing day. She was like a dead man with nothing but regrets on her mind, "If only I was able to ask her during dinner. If only I had the courage. If only we never went to that stupid park. If only I didn't get thirsty. If only I didn't go to that fucking vending machine. If only I was a bit more faster. If only. If only she didn't love me back. If only we never met, she would probably still be alive right now."
The news about the renowned MMA fighter not able to save her girlfriend spread like a wildfire. She couldn't care less about it for she is in too much pain to think about anything else albeit she hated the fact the Audrey's face was being shown on T.V. and that the people are talking about the incident like it was some entertainment for them. Something like 'the gay prince failed to save her damsel in distress'. Fucking trash disguised as people. It turned out that the murderer was an escapee and that day, Audrey was the 3rd victim at the time of his killing spree in the area. "Wow, police at it's finest, huh." She smiled bitterly.
She looked around the once lively and beautiful room in her apartment. It's now dark and you can still get a whiff of the faint smell of alcohol coming out from her deteriorating breath.Â
A small smile curved up from her lips as she sees the image of a very beautiful girl smiling back at her. She can still vividly recall every look, every whisper, every move and every shivers as she respond to her feeling the latter's everything, kissing every part of the body that every man could die for. "Oh god, have I missed you. It was all my fault, I hope you forgive me. I'll see you very soon."Â
A tear fell down her cheek that even she got surprised that there was still some left as she dreamed about the day she had always dreamt about. Audrey looking all gorgeous in her wedding gown, walking down the aisle with the sweetest smile looking right at her waiting from the altar. "Ah, how awesome it could have been." Another set of tears fell down as Audrey's last words that night kept on playing in her mind like a broken player.
The once bright place full of love surrounded by the frames of their pictures smiling at each other now catastrophic with nothing to hear but the ticking of the clock on the wall and nothing to see but a note that reads "I'm sorry" and the two cold feet that sways 12 inches above the once warm flooring refurbished with lots of empty can of beers.
The End.
